Jin 02
She was involved in an accident. Well it was not really an accident, some guy who had jumped off the school building and apparently didn't do the job properly. He decided to finish it off, by jumping in front of a car. Her car.
The guy died right away from the impact. She was going a little bit over the speed limit, because she was a little late because of all the blueberry pancakes she ate. As she pulled into the school, she didn't notice that there was a figure stumbling towards her. She was too focused on trying to get to the parking lot so she wouldn't be late for class. Her car was smashed. But luckily she was okay... well, okay physically.
No, she wasn't hurt...just shaken. Actually, that was putting it lightly. She was not shaken. She went into shock. She had taken a life without meaning too. She blamed herself, and her driving skills, Why didn't I see him? Why didn't I stop in time? Was I going too fast? It's all my fault. I killed a person. Smash. His life over.
After that incident, she didn't want to sit in a car again. No matter how he tried to convince her otherwise. Perhaps she had developed a phobia of the "metal coffin on wheels", that could so easily take away a fragile human's life. He tried it all: Luring her in with food, placing presents on the driver's seat, leaning into the car, back hugging while rubbing her back comfortingly. Most of the results just ended up with her, crying silently, and shaking her head, and ringing her hands. He couldn't stand to see her like that, so he always, gently, brought her back in, sat her down, and made her a cup of tea. He didn't push her to get into the car. He just wanted to do what is best for her.
It took her a long time to get over it. He knew that she would get better over time. It was just how much time it would take. He loved her. That was never a question. They still went on dates, and went everywhere on foot, or by bicycle. It didn't hinder their life together, the fact that they couldn't take an automobile anywhere. He would never leave her, not over something so arbitrary. But slowly she improved. He coaxed her into siting in the passenger seat for a short ride to the supermarket, and even though she couldn't manage to ride the car back, it was still an improvement. They walked home together, holding hands while carrying the groceries home. And while she started on dinner, he walked back, and drove the car back and came in without uttering a word.
It had been half a year since that incident, and she could now sit in the passenger seat without breaking down. Although neither of them wanted to push it, and get her in the driver's seat. Life started to go back to normal. They drove to date nights across the city, went to work, school, and everything became so much more accessible now that she could get in a vehicle. They didn't have to stay in a 20 km radius of which they could have walked.
To celebrate this, he had planned a nice restaurant date on the other side of the city, where there were a lot more things to do at night.
It was a elegant place, with marble steps, and a man to take your coat when you entered. A place where two high school kids would never be found at, but he wanted to make this special to prove to her that at the end of a long drive, there could be something good, something beautiful. Her smile. He tells her this as they sit down, putting the napkins on their thighs, and she laughs, "There is always something beautiful at the end of the ride. Most of the time it's just your face though."
"Yes, you're right, I'm definitely much more beautiful than this place!" he gestures to what looks like a gold plated fountain spewing out champagne. She giggles as she imitates the face of the cherub where the champagne is pouring out from his mouth.
It was a great dinner. Something neither of them had experience, and it was a great first for the both of them, although it was probably something they would never do again... at least until they were a lot older and a lot richer and had "developed the taste pallets for caviar". As he helps her into her jacket, he back hugs her close, and surreptitiously slips something into her pocket.
"What is it?" she asks trying to turn around to look at him, but he turns her head back around.
"You can look at it in the car." He gives her hand a squeeze, and escorts her back to the car, opening the passenger side door so that she could get in first. He makes sure that she is seated comfortably before going around to his own side. Through the windshield he can see that she is shaking a little bit, and he hurriedly gets into the driver's side.
he puts a hand on her sholder, "What's wrong?"
"Its just- it was such a great night, and I was just thinking that the boy... the guy I hit will never be able to have a night like this." she sniffs.
He draws her head in, onto his sholder, and rubs light patterns into her back. "I know. But you can't look at every happy moment in your life, and think about that boy. I should be the only guy you should be thinking about."
She snorts at the last part, her tears starting to dry. He pats her head affectionately. "Why don't you check what is in your pocket?" he asks innocently.
She gives him a side eye, but he ignores it, and starts the car.
He watches her pull out the small black velvet box. Her eyes widen at the brand, embelished into the top of the box.
"T-T-T-Tiffany's!" she shrieks. "What the fuck Jin! You're throwing your money around like nobody's business today."
He smirks, "Go on open it."
She hesitates, "Don't worry it's not a bomb or a tazer or anything. I'm not that mean." he reassures her.
Slowly she opens the box to reveal the ring. "Oh Jin." she sighs.
"This isn't a proposal or anything, so you can't turn me down." Jin tries to explain. She makes a face, and he continues, "It is a promise ring. Just to say that I promise to be with you even if you go through anything like that again. I did it once, and I do it a million times to just be with you because I love you, and-"
She puts the ring on, and punches him in the arm, "Stop it you Pabo. You're making me tear up."
He looks over, a goofy grin on his face. While he looks over, the flash of oncoming head lights light up their faces. The reflection lights bouncing off of her eyes, lighting up with fear. She tenses up. The roar of the radio, that appeared almost quiet while they were driving seemed to have turned all the way up, the loud dramatic music blasting in their ears.
