chapter one: The great unknown

A heart that jumps,
Is always so weary.
Worn to the core,
Now everything becomes scary.
I promised myself I wouldn't go after you;
Leave you alone,
Let you be on your own.
But I can't help it.
There's a constant worry that your decisions may be wrong.
Who am I to judge?
A friend who will hold no grudge.

Through majestic trees and lush bushes,
I watch as you trudge away,
Away to the unknown.
As wrong as this feels,
I will follow— always,
To make sure you're okay.

I hear you whisper:
"All gone, no hope,"
No my dear, you're all wrong—
But silent I stay,
Hidden away.

I stop and listen,
Your footsteps halt.
I poke through the leaves and see the great unknown...

The sky: a perfect shade of violet and crimson,
As the sun disappeared over the horizon,
But to my horror there's no place to walk on—
You stood there at the edge of a cliff face,
Your legs shaking with no grace.
Were you going to jump?

My heart skipped several beats,
You shuffled your feet—
I screamed but you didn't seem to hear;
I shot forward, everything seemed clear.

You slashed against my grips,
Telling me to go away,
Never was I going to let you go,
Following you didn't seem so wrong no more.

I hope you enjoy it!
I've always been taught that the shortest poems have the greatest affects— do you agree with that, fellow reader?
