"It's so good to see you! What- what are you doing here?"
Eveline gulps immensely, her stance slightly faltering, for only a mere second. Though right after, she lets her hold loose on Starlight. Both woman hold eachother's gaze in concern, although for different reasons. Starlight rubs her neck and slowly walks past her.
"~Eveline." He taunts to get her attention. He completely ignores the helpless man on the ground once he saw Eveline. Not noticing it was Hughie. It was like the whole earth stopped just for her presence. It's been a while since he saw her. And he was pleased with what he saw.
With one more gulp, Eveline whips her body to him. Her gaze fixated on the figure across from her, her eyes burning with intense hate. Every gesture he made, only fuels her disdain further. The sound of his taunting voice grated on her nerves like a fork dragging across a glass plate, each syllable a reminder of past grievances and unresolved conflicts. As Homelander continued to speak, her fists clenched involuntarily, her jaw tightening with suppressed rage. With each passing moment, the flames of animosity within her burns brighter, consuming any semblance of civility or rationality. This was more than a mere dislike; it was a visceral, consuming hate that threatened to consume her whole.
"Homelander." Eveline says with meaningful criticism, as if she was a judge on a talent show.
He smiles at her voice, at each syllable coming from her mouth to pronounce his name. "There you go-" He slowly says. He then gestures the other woman to get near him. He stands behind her and slowly pats her shoulders all the while keeping his blue eyes trained on Eveline's stiff frame.
"Starlight meet Eveline- my arch nemesis- well America's nemesis to be specific."
Starlight looks from Homelander to her with a petrified gaze, not knowing what to do in the situation. He sighs at the silence both women give him. With once last meaningful pat he backs up from Starlight. "Did you know, she," He emphasizes, pointing at Eveline, "has a record for the most kills of civilians in America than any other terrorists? Kinda cool if you ask me-"
The record was not victory in her eyes rather devastating casualties she will always damn herself for. Even if she fools herself that it was for a justified purpose.
Once again, they both remain silent at his failed words to break the tension. "Too far?" He questions.
Eveline ignores his words, her eyes zoom past him to look at Hughie. His defeated figure on the ground covered in blood, with gaze that held 1000 soldier's ptsd.
"You guys are so boring-" Homelander groans and finally gives a glance to the guy Starlight used her powers on. His eyes widen in familiarity and scoffs. All his playfulness went overboard when seeing Hughie. "Oh come on- you gotta be fucking kidding me."
She hears Hugie gasp in fear at Homelander finally seeing him. Eveline tried to take a step forward but Homelander quickly saw her movement in his peripheral. "Don't." He demanded, his voice echoed along the pipes.
Once again, Eveline didn't say anything and remained still. She wondered why she didn't deviate from his command. Maybe it was because of Hughie on the ground in pain, and with Homelander's unpredictability. Eveline knew better than to go against him. Oh but hell did she want so bad to.
"This guy? Again?" Homelander's focus then went to Starlight, who tried to deny her involvement with Hughie.
"I did not know-"
"Shut it. What, do you got rocks in your fucking head?" Homelander demands with disappointment, stalking closer to Starlight. "Come here-" He pushes Starlight by her back to follow him, but stops. He then looks behind him. "You too Eveline."
She obliged and walks forward. Each step she hates more and more as she finally gets pulled by Homelander to stand right by him, on his left. She also took notice of how his fingers lingered on her back, as if he was trying to touch her skin through her red jacket.
She so wanted to kill him then and there.
Even more so when he let his hand rest on her waist, while speaking to Starlight. "All right. I'd like you to do something for me, okay?" He voices with mischief, seeping through his stretched out smile.
"Watch this, you'll like it." He mutters in Eveline's ear. His hot breath fans her skin. He admittedly breaths in her scent, making Eveline stare at Starlight with disgust.
He looks towards Hughie and Starlight, the mere seconds of silence threatening to all who reside in the presence of Homelander. "Kill him."
At his words, Starlight, Hughie and even Eveline's eyes widen in fear. She didn't know Hughie that much but she knew he didn't deserve that fate. Her concern quickly changes neutral as Homelander looks at her for a reaction. He didn't see her concern, but he saw it in a different way. How her sweat on her forehead seemed to increase at the mention of killing Hughie. He said nothing and waited for Starlight to respond.
Starlight stammers continuously, shocked at his request. "Uh, n...no, no, he- he-"
"He?" Homelander questions slyly.
Starlight breathes irregularly as the situation she hoped didn't come true dances in her face. "Shouldn't we take him to the police?" She inquires.
"Yes, he is. Yes, we should." Homelander agrees nonchalantly. His hand then slowly goes up Eveline's body and rests on her shoulder. "Kill him." He says after doing the discreet motion. "Right now."
Eveline remains unmoving at his touch up, hoping the moment would end. She just wonders how she's going to escape from him unscathed with Hughie.
Starlight says nothing and looks at Homelander with fear in her eyes.
He scoffs at her resistance. "Chick's, right, Hughie?" At last his grip on Eveline, washes away like sand at sea.
And for the seconds his eyes and body remains on Starlight, giving Eveline a chance to check on Hughie. She mouths, 'are you okay' to Hughie. He looks back and forth, shaking his head in fear. Not saying a word.
"Hands in the air, like you just don't care. Kill." She then hears Homelander say playfully. She looks at them to find him forcing Starlights hand to aim at Hughie. Who yet again remains unmoving at his command. "Do it." He demands one last time.
With her hands aiming, she continues to stay still.
"Don't feel like it? Okay-" With no response from Starlight, he whisked his head to Eveline. "Eveline come here."
She didn't move, figuring out what to do in the few seconds she had. "Now." He demands with a hand out to her. His red glove hand rubbing against each finger as he beckons her to him.
She keeps her mouth shut and walks to him, letting him get behind her as he grasp her shoulders. Soothing them to his own gratification. "Fortunately for us, Starlight-" He begins. "I got here someone who doesn't care who she kills, isn't that right Eveline?" He says near her ear.
She simply turns her head away.
He grins at her reaction. "How about this- we'll save you the hassle and let her do it for you. Show Starlight how the pros do it Eveline."
Starlight let's her hands go down in fear.
Eveline finally snapped out of her subordination, and shook her head. "I'm not killing him."
"Embarrassing me here Eveline-" He jokes stiffly. "Why not?" He laughs throughout his speech to her. "Because last time I remember, a mere child's death didn't faze you. Why now?"
"Because," She states. She turns and looks Homelander in the eyes. With her own glowing red eyes. "You're already beside me."
"No, no. That's not it." He says. He finally looks into her eyes with a smile that holds malicious intent. "It's because you know him as well isn't it?"
Her facade of toughness falters for a few seconds but that's all it took for the answer Homelander needed. "It is! Oh my god-" His dry laugh haunts the three internally. He looks up as he continues to laugh, with his hands on his hips.
"How do you do it Hughie?" Homelander take one step to Hughie and that's all it took for Hughie to back up as much as possible, with a small whimper. Even with his back against the drainage wall. Homelander stops and sighs, his jokes going over their heads.
"Fine, fine." He quietly says. He quickly turns around with a fist against his mouth, thinking. Smacking his lips in anticipation. "How about this-"
His gets in front of Eveline, with both of his hands grasping her cheekbones. Rubbing them dearly but every now and then putting force against them, showing Eveline he meant business this time. While forcing her to look at him directly. "If you don't show them what I know you're capable of-"
He whisks his head side to side. "I might kill a kid that goes by the name Daniel- just for fun."
She looks at him in fear, for the first time. Her eyes begin to get glossy at the name. Her mouth twitches in anger and she raises her hand to use her powers on him but he quickly grabs her wrist and smirks. "Nu-uh, none of that. You had your chance."
"He's alive?" She questions with venom on her tongue. She doubted the voice from before even though it was clearly Daniel. Maybe it was because death was quite literally in her face.
He inspects her hand, and sees her blackened fingertips but doesn't mention it. He tenderly puts her hand back at her side. "Oh he's kicking alright- Starlight!" He walks away with victory, knowing the leverage he has on her now. He stands in between the two supes and claps his hands together. "Tell her about the kid- how he is going to join the seven as your little brother."
Eveline sees red as her eyes burn with hatred at Homelander, they eventually go to Starlight. Starlight stammers over her words again in fear of the other supe in front of her. "I couldn't do anything about it- believe me-"
Eveline was mad alright, even more so when hearing of her brother's state. How was he alive? He died in her arms, she even went to his funeral. Did they really dig him out of his grave? She was furious, not at Starlight. Considering she was fairly new in the team as well. Homelander disturbed her brother's grave, she wanted him gone. But the voice from before, it sounded just like Daniel...it was Daniel. It is Daniel- she hope it was and not just her mind playing games on her.
Eveline tries to call out to the voice however she did like before. Using her voice in her head, she calls out the voice of Daniel.
Are you there?... Daniel?
...no response.
She simultaneously did this as reality faced her. She didn't pay attention to Starlight as she looks up to Homelander. "He's not yours." Eveline says to him.
I'm here... you okay?
She finally gets the response she so dearly needs, she now knew he wasn't just a voice in her head. She hears Homelander respond milliseconds right after her.
"Nothing gets past you does it?" Homelander says sarcastically. He finally shifts his shoulders. "Alright we're getting nowhere- Eveline."
As the situation came to a close, she frantically calls out again to him in her head, hoping Homelander wasn't telling the truth.
Where are you?
Please, I need to know.
Homelander clamps his hands together and puts them behind his back, puffing out his chest as if he owned the room. His supe attire that resembled the American flag was threatening. No longer did the flag meant freedom to Eveline it meant death come be with Homelander. And he admittedly does own the metaphorical room.
He smiles wickedly to Starlight then to Eveline. Letting the tension build up just for his own pleasure. "I want you to force Starlight to kill Hughie, and in return you get your precious Daniel back. How 'bout it?"
The weight on her shoulders will finally be gone if she gets Daniel back. But she had to kill a human in order to get him? What exactly was Homelander's play there? No matter what, it is Daniel over some stranger she met days go. But a stranger she admittedly took under her wing, what is she gonna do? She delt with situations like this all the time to get to Homelander. Was it the voice giving her somewhat proof of her brother being alive? Or what is the words Starlight stammered about him, giving proof someone else also knew about her brother's presence?
Homelander then adds more pressure to her choice as she contemplates, her eyes going back and forth from him to Starlight. "What am I even saying, of course you're going to do it. Or Daniel takes Hughie's place and vise versa." He says amusingly while malevolence hides behind it.
And as if his deal couldn't be more clear, Daniel's voice gives her confidence in her final choice.
Im at Vought
She was ecstatic yet angry of him being alive. Well, Daniel's alive in the end, it's all that matters to her.
"Fine." She accepts after a few seconds of silence, thinking over Daniel's voice. She walks up to Starlight, and begins to raise her hand towards her temple. Her red mystic powers begin to become visible as her hand ever slowly comes closer to Starlight head. Starlight closes her eyes, Eveline sees tears going down her cheeks. "I'm sorry." She says, knowing Homelander can hear her perfectly.
He ignores it and licks his lips, seeing her powers manifest. It's what he loved the most from her, her powers. How easily she can take down anyone, if she got on his side she and him can do anything, everything. He eyes her up and down and grins. Watching with excitement.
Eveline tries her best to block out her pity for Starlight but her tears only made her question her action even more.
"Ugh, I don't have all day Eveline." Homelander says with irritation from behind her.
She sighs with defeat, she finally is in reach with her powers to Starlight's temple. She watches as Starlight's eyes change to red, her crying stops automatically. "I want you... to kill..." Eveline slowly begins to mutter the words, hoping something, someone will stop her from doing something she'll regret.
Luckily someone did. Right at the last second before she says Hughie's name, Butcher's voice came into play. It was the only time she was grateful to hear his voice.
"Oi, cunt!"
She lets go of Starlight and turns around with Homelander to see Butcher stalking slowly towards them. Starlight got out of her daze and gazes at Butcher as well, still slightly affected by the recent commotion.
"William?" Homelander says with laughter. "What a suprise! Hey, you know, I had a great breakfast with your wife this morning."
So his wife was alive? She now regretted what she said to him before she came in contact with Homelander. She regreted many things lately.
It was as if they both had the same thought when Homelander mentioned his wife. For Butcher lays eyes on Eveline, it wasn't with hate or distaste this time. Just a gaze of acknowledging eachother in the moment.
"Pancakes." Homelander continues, with a slight taunting groan at Butcher. He flicks his tongue aggressively. "Mmm. Delicious."
Butcher finally looks away from Eveline. "Yeah?" Butcher comment's with insincerity. "Eat this, motherfucka."
At that, Eveline sees the supe they captured come out from behind Butcher and raises his hand. Eveline and Starlight step back, watching as the roof caved in on Homelander, quickly engulfing him under the rubble. But the supe didn't stop there, he relentlessly threw more on Homelander until the outside was seen. Cars honking and alarms blaring were a sign of his destruction.
When everything calmed down, the supe saw a way out and uses his powers to escape from the situation. The mute female from before quickly follows suit. Eveline looks up as they both disappear from sight. She then looks to Butcher who quickly gestures a head nod. "Go." Is all he said.
Eveline nods and looks at Hughie once more, grateful for not making Starlight kill him. They probably hate her now but that wasn't her concern it was the supe that got away. And knowing Homelander has leverage against her now.
At that she flys away, but she didn't except to find herself in yet another difficult situation.
Unfortunately, it comes with the package of harboring compound v in the bloodstream.
