"How's it going with Xavier?" Zoey asked me

It was lunch break and we decided to have our lunch in my office.

"He barely talks to me" I told her
"I mean it's almost a month and I still don't know anything about him" I explained

"Did you finish reading his file?"

"I did, but I need to know my patients beyond what the file says"

"That guy scares the crap out of me" she said as she took a bite of her snack

I laughed "I thought Nathan does that job perfectly"

She stopped chewing to look at me "how you deal with those guys amazes me"

Chuckling again, I looked at the time and it was few minutes past Xavier's session

"Shit" I exclaimed as I scurried to get up
"It's past Xavier's session and I need to make sure his lunch gets to him"

"I still don't get why you have to feed him" Zoey scoffed

"I don't feed him" I pointed out

"Sure you don't" she rolled her eyes

"Zoey, it's either this or he eats in the cafeteria and we don't want a repeat of what happened last time he was there"
I told her

"Fine, go do your job Dr. Barrett" she said in a serious but playful tone.

I smiled and left my office with a file in hand.

The walk to Xavier's room was long.
I had to walk down a short path then take the elevator his floor.

I kept thinking of the outcome of this session, I was hoping I get to make him talk today.

So I walked until I got to him room door.

"Good morning Xavier" I greeted as I walked into his room.

His eyes were fixated on the television screen ahead of him.
He was watching spongebob square pants and to say I was shocked was a understatement.

Looking at his hands, I saw the remote he held in a loose grip and I wondered why of all channels he chose spongebob.

We normally have days where we let our patients do what they do for fun outside their rooms but with guards on standby.

But since Xavier wasn't allowed out of his room, he chose to watch TV.

"You haven't eaten your food?" I asked him

He took his eyes from the television and looked at me.

"And I thought you were smart" he was now focused on me

"Excuse me?" I retorted

But he didn't say anything, he just looked at the cuffs on his hand and back at me.

It was in that moment I was now questioning my decision...

"Xavier" I called his name "I was hoping we could try a new method today."

He just kept his intense look on me

"You told me how you felt about being chained up, so I want to change that" putting my hand in the pocket of my lab coat, I brought out a set of keys.

"We haven't made any progress this past weeks and it's not helping either of us. I want to help you but you have to be willing and cooperative for that to happen" I explained

But still he hadn't said anything, sighing I took a step closer to him

"I have to trust that you'll behave"

"Why would you trust me?" He raised a brow as he spoke

"Xavier, like I said earlier you have to let me help you but you need to be willing and cooperative.

I want us to have a relationship where we can communicate. If you want to leave this place and get back to your friends, family, you have to trust me"

After few seconds that felt like hours he replied "I'll behave"

Taking a deep breath, I walked towards him, the keys felt heavy in my hand.

Something at the back of my mind was nagging me, telling me how wrong this was, but I ignored it, convincing myself otherwise.

Reaching the seat where Xavier sat, I bent down to reach his hands.

I've never been this close to him before, so if I thought he was intimidating from a thousand feet away, it wasn't compared to his intimidating he was right now.

I could smell the scent of mint combined with the hospital soap from him. It was intoxicating.

Bending made me reach his height while seating, so looking at him, I stared into the clearest blue eyes and he stared just right back.

"Why are you hesitating?" His voice was low and husky

"I need to know you won't try anything funny" I hoped he couldn't detect the shake in my voice

"I won't" he said

With that I inserted the key into the lock and turned.
