Chapter Seven
The ground fell from under your feet, but you were already moving, launching yourself back towards the Drakes, where your hand was caught and you were yanked to safety. Well, would be safety, except Nadine's had also been fast enough to make it to safety and ordered her men to shoot you all.
"We gotta move!" Sam yelled leading the way ahead, you close behind and Nate bringing up the rear, only after making the jump to safety, the ground broke under Nate and he slipped before either of you could catch him, tumbling to the debris below. Before you could panic, you saw him jump to toppling columns and start to climb, the mercs focused on him. You knew you needed to distract them, so you charged from behind the pillar, jumping across another gap and tackling one of them, grabbing his gun as he went down and turning it on the other one as Sam took him out. Nate flattened the third guy before he could even move, and then the three of you were armed, heading for the way out, only for it to be blocked by more men.
You managed one shot before more debris fell, blocking you in and them out.
"Shit! Now what?!" You panicked, your only escape route blocked. Sam grabbed the top of your arm and pointed.
"We gotta go up to get out!" He urged, pushing you ahead of him as you climbed so you could swing across the huge space and climb out of there. More Shoreline appeared on the other side, but Sam and Nate covered you as you jumped first, climbing quickly and returning fire from close range.
The brothers quickly followed you, and after a mad sprint though some tunnels, avoiding gunfire and grenades, the three of you were back out in the open air. Sully yelling through the walkies. Leaving one of the brothers to answer, you took point, throwing your rope and swinging across to another ledge before noticing a red dot on the wall next to you and immediately dropping behind a Shoreline box and yelling back to the other two. "SNIPER!"
Staying down, you watched the dot on the wall, catching your breath for a moment while you wondered how the hell you were gonna get out of that mess. As if someone was watching over you that day, you noticed a sniper rifle half buried in the snow a few feet from you.
You couldn't believe it, but you also knew better than to hang around, so you dove for it and then quickly scrambled back under cover, seeing the snow beside you explode as a bullet hit the spot where your head had been seconds before. You would never get a shot off before you were killed, and you knew it. You needed a distraction.
Sam and Nate were still on the other ledge, under better cover than you were. Grabbing your walkie, you whispered furiously into it. "Guys, I've got a sniper... I need you to cause a distraction so I can get a good shot at this asshole."
No answer, but seconds later you heard them start to yell, and sure enough, the dot on the wall moved away quickly, going for the easier targets. Wasting no time, you spun around, propping the rifle on the box and looking through the scope to find the sniper who had tried to kill you moments before.
The cocky bastard didn't even bother with cover and stood on top of the scaffold, so you had no trouble finding him and putting a bullet in his skull. After him, you killed the others quickly and then moved, not wanting to get pinned down again.
You swung across to where the sniper had been, leaving your rope when it slipped from your grip, and climbing the scaffold.
At the top, you were greeted by more Shoreline, but managed to dive behind a crate before any could get a shot off. Using the last of your dynamite, you took a group of them down, clearing the way just as the Drakes climbed up beside you.
"Let's go!" You yelled, running forwards, not giving them time to breathe. They could do that later, assuming they dodged bullets well.
Sully came through the radio again, but his words were meaningless to you as you ran, your hair ripping free of its braid as you went.
"Keep heading down, don't stop!" Sam urged, but you didn't need telling twice, and led the way. You were going to make it, you could practically smell the inside of Sully's plane.
It happened so fast after that. One second Nate was yelling for you to keep heading down, and the next a guy was on the cliff ahead of you, his gun aimed at Sam.
It was like a movie, and the whole world seemed to slow down, as if letting you see what was about to happen, knowing you were almost helpless to stop it.
You moved before even thinking about it, screaming for Sam to get down, even as you knew he wouldn't react fast enough, and jumped in front of him, shielding him as best you could while trying to tackle him out of the way. You felt something slam into the back of your shoulder, feeling like a punch, but hard enough to take you and Sam down.
You blinked and the world snapped back to normal speed and Nate was returning fire while Sam rolled you so he was on top of you, shielding your body with his own.
"Shit! Y/N! You're hit!" He cried as he noticed the blood leaking through your jacket. If you hadn't been in so much pain, you'd have tried for sarcasm, but you were not in the mood and grasped the exit wound, applying pressure as best you could.
"I'm fine. We need to keep moving!" You gasped through the pain, trying to sit up and grabbing your gun again. Sam helped you but called to his brother.
"Nathan! Y/N's hit, we've got to get out of here!" He yelled and you heard Nate swear loudly.
You were already feeling woozy from the pain and blood loss, so you knew you were gonna have to run or you were gonna pass out and become a huge problem for them.
"Need to get to the plane," you whispered, starting forward on shakey legs. Immediately both brothers were there, offering help and not paying attention to your surroundings.
You fired a shot as another guy showed up that they both failed to notice before sucking in a breath and snarling at the two of them. "Get to the damn plane! Move your asses!" Your order was followed by a whine as the pain began to spread into your chest. Clearly the shot was worse than you'd thought as the blood was now dripping from your fingers after soaking your jacket completely.
The brothers didn't need telling twice and Nate led the way as Sam put an arm around you and led the way after his brother, mumbling to you quietly.
You were jogging and each step was a trauma, jogging your arm, but you kept your lips clamped shut, and fought to stay conscious. Suddenly you were sliding downhill and landing roughly on a rock outcrop, but you could barely open your eyes, let alone stand up. Sam noticed and yelled at Nathan as gunshots were heard. "Forgot those guys, she's gone white. We need to get her out of here before she loses more blood!" He snapped and you felt him lift you into his arms and start running again.
You were drifting in his arms but after a second you realised he was shaking you and talking to you urgently. "Y/N! Wake up, Sweetheart. I need you to hold onto me. You keep hold of me, we've got to swing and the waters gonna suck, but you hold on. Okay? Try and hold onto me," he urged, so you did, ordering your arms to obey you and hold onto him. You didn't know if it worked as you couldn't feel your arms, but then he was talking again, sounding relieved. "Atta girl. That's my girl, you hold onto me, I'm gonna get you out of here!"
And then you were sliding again, quickly, and you could hear the sound of Sully's plane. You were about to call out but them you were suddenly weightless. Before you could even comprehend what was going on, you were submerged in freezing water and gasping against your will, taking in a lung full of water.
As your head broke the surface you gagged and tried to cough it up, only to breathe in more.
That would be your luck. Get shot but die by drowning.
For a moment you thought you were right, but then you were being pulled up by someone and left on the floor while Sam climbed in behind you, slamming the doors as Sully took off. Before you were even moving, Sam was beside you, pounding on your back to get the water up, and you spewed it up with a cry as he aggrivated the bullet wound.
"Breathe Y/N. Come on girl!"
But you were breathing again, and Sam gave a small chuckle as your eyes opened and looked at him. His lips were blue from the cold, but he was busy helping you first, grabbing blankets to cover you with while Nate fished for the first aid kit. You wanted to say something but your eyes were too heavy and you passed out to the sound of Sam screaming your name.
