Chaper 23

Y/n struggled against the ropes that bound her to the rusted rafters above her. Her legs were almost two feet off the ground, held down by a long heavy piece of wood, immobilizing her legs. She groaned in frustration. "Why," she whispered. "Why are you doing this to me?" She got louder as she yelled at the figure in the shadows. "Why the hell are you doing this to me?!" He chuckled sinisterly from the darkness, amused by her struggling. "I need not back my actions to anyone."

"We trusted you!" She cried. "We trusted you, Rick!"

He stepped from the corner and laughed. "That was your first mistake Rachel, or is it Y/n? Your little boyfriend yelled your name, Castiel was it?" He cackled again. "The look of absolute fear on his face was beautiful, truly breathtaking. It was so genuine kekeke!" A hand reached up to cover his mouth as he laughed. Y/n grimaced in disgust as saliva dripped from his lips. "The other one, Jerome, does he know what you are?"

"He did, only for a moment though." Rick cackled. "He wasn't as delicious as you'll be, I'll need to savor your taste." He caressed Y/n's cheek as he gripped her waist. She craned her head back as far as it would go and slammed her head into his, breaking his nose. Rick stepped back and cupped his face to stem the flow of blood spurting from his nose, and while Y/n was satisfied by injuring her captor, she didn't take the time to think about just how much that would fucking hurt. Her head spun as she tried to shake away the dizziness.

Castiel and Dean had been thinking of a plan while Sam tried to figure out how to track the manananggal, his fingers typed on the keyboard vigorously. Dean's head finally shot up. "What about Kelsey?" He said as he looked at Cas, his mouth set in a grim line. Sam stopped typing on his laptop. "What do you mean, 'what about Kelsey', what are you getting at Dean?" Sam snapped. Dean clenched his teeth in thought, and Cas read those thoughts and reviewed them. "Using Kelsey as bait," he said bluntly. "Dean wants to use Kelsey as bait for the manananggal."

Sam stood from his seat quick enough to make the chair fall backwards and hit the floor with a clatter. "We are not using Kelsey as bait." He stated firmly although his voice quivered faintly. "Every person I've been with has died, Jessica, Ruby, Madison, I'm always alone; and now you want me to use a person, one that I care about, as bait for a blood sucking monster?"

Dean looked at the design in the floor. "Look Sammy,"

"It's Sam." The taller Winchester snapped.

"Sam, I understand okay? That this life sucks and getting attached to anyone means that they're in constant danger and are almost always going to die by some monster, or demon, or hunter that has a grudge." Dean placed his hands on Sam's shoulders and looked him in the eye. "But sometimes a sacrifice is needed in order to keep the greater good going. And it's not like we're just gonna be dropping her off and leaving, we're setting a trap to kill that son of a bitch." Sam grimaced as a tear ran down his cheek. "Only if she agrees to it, I'm not forcing her to do something that she doesn't want to do." Dean nodded. "Of course man."

After Sam called Kelsey and informed her of the situation at hand, she almost immediately agreed to assist, much to Sam's dismay. The brothers picked up the girl from her previous hotel after packing all of their things and checking out. Meanwhile Cas stayed behind at the new hotel to calm down before he did something brash. The brothers and Kelsey devised a plan to help them find and kill the manananggal, which was difficult considering the Winchester's had never hunted a such a creature before. "There's barely any lore on the thing," Sam snapped a book on Philippic mythical creatures shut and ran his hands through his long hair. "How are we supposed to kill something if we have no idea what we're dealing with?"

"Where's that article you had up when we figured out what the thing was?" Dean asked tiredly after sipping his now half full room temperature beer. "I bet there'd be some good lore there." Sam pulled his beat up laptop out of his bag and opened it. "That description that I gave you before was really the only lore on the manananggal, the rest was about its habitat, diet, hunting patterns, and the tip about the glass bullet."

"So we have nothing else but that?" Kelsey asked tiredly as she closed her map of the park. "Unfortunately." Sam sighed. Cas ran his hands through his dark curls with a frustrated heave of his chest. "Then what do we do? We can't just let it kill her." His voice cracked at the word 'kill'. "We can't ask the townspeople about it because the monster isn't native to this part of the world, and we can't fly all the way to the Philippines to ask the locals about it either." Sam said as he moved to stand behind Kelsey. "Well, technically Cas could." Kelsey pointed out hopefully. "I don't think Cas is in the right state of mind to do that," Dean drank more of his beer. "Plus none of us know how to speak Portuguese."

"Portuguese isn't spoken in the Philippines, I think it's Filipino." Kelsey stated. "Does anyone here know how to speak Filipino?" Dean said sarcastically, the room was thrown into a small silence. "I thought not." He sank lower into his chair and finished off his beer before leaning over and grabbing another from the small table. "Dean you need to slow down man," Sam snatched the drink from his brother's hand. "You're seriously going to get drunk when we have a pressing matter on our hands?" Dean stood and grabbed the bottle back. "If you think two beers is enough to get me drunk then you seriously doubt my drinking ability Sammy." He snapped the bottle top off and took a drink while looking directly into Sam's eyes. "Dean." Sam said sternly. "This is serious."

"I am being serious!" Dean stood chest to chest with his brother. "We've been reading these fucking books for almost three hours looking for an answer!"

"Uh, guys?" Kelsey tried to get their attention.

"Really? Because the whole time you've been here you've been complaining about how much trouble Y/n gets in, about how annoyed you are that you're not out there fighting the damn thing!" Sam retorted harshly.

"Guys?" Kelsey raised her voice a bit.

"That's because I'm a man of action Sam, I'm not a 'sit down and read the books' kind of guy!" Dean was getting angry, a result of his tiredness and the stress of a time crunch involving the life of another person.

"Guys!" Kelsey stood and separated the two, mostly pressing on their stomachs because she was that much shorter than them. "I get that this is stressful, and that you're both tired, but where is Cas?" Dean and Sam both stepped away from each other immediately and looked around the small hotel room to find that the brown haired angel was nowhere to be found. "Cas?" Dean called out in hopes that he would hear him. "Where'd you go buddy?" He asked nervously to the open air, a few seconds later the loud sound of wings filled the room and Cas appeared once again. He had his hand on the shoulder of a bronze skinned older man with long wispy gray hair and blue eyes full of cataracts. He wore a colorful red and orange loincloth that wrapped around his waist and a large red shawl over his shoulders. A vibrant red headpiece sat atop his head and was decorated in beads and brown feathers from various large birds. Traditional shaman paint was covering his face, arms, and stomach like mystical tattoos. Dean broke the tense silence. "Who the hell is that?"

"This is Datu, he is the shaman of a small village in the Philippines."

"Nasaan ako?" (Where am I?) The old man asked in a shaky voice. "Wala ako sa bahay, kaya saan ako nagpunta?" (I am not home, so where have I gone?)

"Huwag matakot sir, dadalhin ko kayo sa madaling araw." (Don't be afraid sir, I'll take you home shortly) Cas comforted the old man. "Una kailangan namin ang iyong tulong, tulad ng iyong ipinangako." (Firstly we require your assistance, as you promised) Dean looked back and forth between the two. "Hold up, Cas you know how to speak Filipino?"

"I'm an angel, I speak every language there is and has been." He said bluntly as he lead the man to the couch and asked him to rest in it, the man jumped slightly when the soft material of the couch touched his skin. "Why'd you bring him here?" Kelsey asked quietly so she wouldn't startle Datu. "The people of the Philippines know the legends of the manananggal, Datu is a shaman from the Philippines, he'd know them best. I traveled there and asked for assistance, which Datu said he could provide." He walked back over to the man and knelt so he was eye level with him.

"Ano ang masasabi mo sa akin ng isang nilalang na tinawag ng iyong bayan ang manananggal?" (What can you tell me of a creature your people call the manananggal?)

Datu visibly stiffened at the mention of the creature in question. "Bakit mo nais malaman ito?" (Why do you wish to know of it?) His voice quivered in fear. "Ito ay isang masamang nilalang." (It is an evil creature.) Cas exhaled shakily. "Ito ay kumuha ng isang tao mula sa akin," (It took someone from me,) he said sternly, looking into Datu's blind eyes. "At hihinto ako sa anumang bagay upang makabalik siya." (And I will stop at nothing to get her back.)

Y/n had been hanging from her wrists for nearly four hours, she could feel her joints protesting the weight of her body; it felt as if they'd dislocate at any moment. She tried to hold onto the rope above the makeshift cuffs but her fingers wouldn't cooperate and they ended up letting go every time she tried to alleviate the pain. Rick was nowhere in sight, he'd left about a half an hour ago and Y/n hasn't seen him since. Not that she minded.

He had stripped her lower half so she was bare, so her most private parts were exposed for the world to see. It was chilly where she was, an abandoned mine it seemed, and a draft blew in every so often that chilled her to the core.

Rick kept talking about a heat in her stomach, something that confused her greatly. He acted as if it was the most wonderful thing in the world. Y/n didn't have time to ponder as she heard his wings, they sounded much harsher than Castiel's, thinner in a way. The air around them cracked like a whip when he beat them.

When Rick finally arrived he dropped the carcass of a deer next to the wall onto a pile of mixed animal bones, ranging, from what Y/n could tell, between rabbits and small deer. He was mumbling to himself but Y/n caught the phrase 'a snack for later' and involuntarily shivered. He caught the movement and snickered. "Oh I'm sorry," he sneered. "Is it too cold for you?" She decided not to answer and just looked at the ground. "That little thing inside of you is going to be just delicious, I can't wait to take it from you." He grabbed her by the chin and licked the side of her face from her jaw to near her eye. Y/n grimaced, but again said nothing. Rick seemed frustrated. "Are you're not upset by the fact that I'm going to kill the little one growing inside you? Are you truly that heartless?"

"I'm the heartless one?" Y/n scoffed. "You're the one killing people, and you don't even know what you're talking about, I'm not pregnant you ignorant asshole!" He outburst caused Rick to lash out and smack her in the face. Her head reeled to the side as the breath left her chest. "I can feel it, the warmth from your body gave it all away. You're almost two months pregnant, but it's not a normal baby, no; this baby's heart is like none other I've felt. It beats strong and loud, just as yours does." He grabbed her by the chin again and spoke into her ear. "I'm going to tear out that baby and devour it in front of you, then, when that's all done and you've got nothing else, I'll put you out of your misery and kill you."

A trickle of tears ran down Y/n's cheek, from pain or fear, she didn't know. I'm pregnant? But... Castiel and I had sex only a few days ago! I can't be two months pregnant... Y/n was lost in thought and was snapped back when Rick knelt down and licked the flesh of her stomach. She started wriggling to try and get him away from her, to hit him, to do anything that would make him stop. Rick's long tongue pressed against her stomach, and she felt a sharp pain as it passed through her flesh and into her body. She screamed so loudly her voice cracked and became hoarse, she was crying and trying to thrash around, but the weight of the beam made sure she couldn't move.

She was helpless.

The pain became worse as Rick started to drain the blood from her body, her abdomen was cramping and twisting at the loss of the much needed liquid. He grasped onto her sides to keep her still as he drained the life from her baby, and in doing so, her.

Y/n let loose a scream that echoed in the walls of the mine, hurting her own ears. "Cas!" My baby!

"Castiel!" Get him away from my baby!

The loud sound of wings filled the room and suddenly Rick was ripped from Y/n's smaller body. Castiel angrily pulled Rick away from Y/n by the hair and started dragging him away, Rick was thrashing and screeching. Y/n felt hands on her arms and she weakly opened her eyes to see Sam and Kelsey uniting her wrists and undoing the beam between her legs, which fell to the ground with a loud clatter. Dean stood next to Cas as he started hitting Rick over, and over, his fists soon became stained red with his blood.

Kelsey took of her jacket and wrapped it around Y/n's waist before Sam finally got the ropes untied and she fell into his arms. She groaned as her stiff limbs were finally allowed to move again, but she curled into a fetal position when Sam sunk to the floor. "Cas..." she whispered weakly. "Cas our baby." Cas was next to her in an instant and pulled her into his lap with a quiet sob. Sam went to join the fight against the monster while Kelsey remained next to the angel. "Y/n," his voice cracked slightly. "Y/n, I'm so sorry." He kissed the top of her head and rocked them back and forth. "The baby," she said weakly. "What about the baby?" Cas put his hand over her abdomen and healed the hole in her stomach, when he retracted his shaking hands he shook his head. "She's gone."

She?

"We would've had a daughter..." He kissed her forehead as warm tears fell from his eyes. "A daughter..." Y/n gasped lightly. She'd always wanted a daughter to teach how to knit and how to paint, to dress up in nice dresses that Y/n couldn't wear and to take her out to show to the world. To console her after her first heartbreak and to show her how to dance like Y/n's mom had taught her, but now she couldn't. Because she was killed by a monster. Slowly she realized this and started crying silently. Then not so silently, her sobs of grief bounced loudly off the walls as she embraced her lover and cried into his coat. He held onto her tightly as his own tears soaked her shoulder, but he didn't make a noise. With one hand still grasping Y/n's back tightly he reached into his coat and pulled out his blade, looking Kelsey in the eye then looking at Sam and Dean, who had begun slashing at the creature with a silver blade coated in a mixture that Datu has helped them create: a mixture of crushed garlic, salt, and cedar ash. Kelsey nodded and took the blade to the brothers.

The screams of the manananggal were quickly drowned out by the pained cries of a stolen parenthood.
