Chapter 32

Teddy's POV

Hilly's mum called my mother looking for me saying Hilly was at home, my mum called me at Paul's and asked me to come home. So I did.

I caught the morning bus and got off at the stop that resided at the beginning of Scottie road. I walked down the road passing by the kids and people going on their morning walks or down to the markets. I knew everyone and they all knew me, it was impossible to not like everyone that lived on the road.

I opened the door to my house, dad was reading the paper in the living room, mum was in the kitchen, my grandmother was wheeling around in her wheelchair and Libby I assumed was up in her room. I sat at the table and my mum smiled at me warmly.

"Finally home?" She said, I shrugged and kept a my eyes to my hands that laid on the table, she folded up her cloth and walked over then sat next to me

"You've been out to long" She sighed tucking my hair behind my ear

"I wanna be in a music group, be somebody" I mumbled then looked at my mother who gave me a sympathetic face with a hint of surprise

"You're too caught up in rock n roll, you should start listening to Frank Sinatra" she chuckled getting up

"Don't you understand? This is what I want, be the next Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Little Richard" I said walking behind her

"And what if it all fails, what will you fall back on?" She questioned with her hands on her hips

"I'll find somethin' if it doesn't work out I'll get something to fall back on, right now I want to focus on music, not a job" Mum looked at me as if I was crazy, saying I wasn't looking for a job.

"Well I can't expect that out my child, and what if you forget to have something to fall back on? Hm? People will ask me what my children do for a living, for you I'll probably have to say you have no job, I don't want a failure child" Mum scolded

"I'll prove it to ya, watch me I'll be famous by 1963" I said with a stuck up face

"I'll take that bet" With that mum stomped up the steps I let out a long sigh

"Theodora" My grandmother smiled as I turned to meet her gaze

She was sitting in living room now on the couch, I assume dad placed her there then left for work without saying goodbye, I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to get into a fight between myself and mum.

"Yeah?" I asked

"Come sit" she smiled patting the seat next to her, I walked over and sat down

"Now you listen, when your grandfather was alive I used to say the same thing to him, he wanted to be a famous painter but I told him that he would have to support our family with a real job" She took a deep breath and then continued

"I'm sorry I ever told him that because he was a good painter, he could have been famous but I held him back, so I'm telling you now, follow your ambitions because I know you'll make it someday" She smiled patting my knee

"Thanks Grandma, you always have the best advice" I chuckled as she laughed

"It's a gift, your mother has it and I know you do too, now go be a sweetheart and get the cat, I love to watch television with the cat" She grinned clapping once. She was one wonderful little lady.
