When You Were Young || Scott Favor
You weren't really sure when you had met him, but it felt like the whole had stopped when you laid eyes on him. You were naive, a bit young, and had so much to explore. Your belief on love at first sight had the moment you met Scott Favor.
You met him at a bar, he wasn't alone, but with a friend named Mike. You haven't seen Mike in awhile, not after what happened. At the time you walked into the overcrowded and rundown bar, Scott was talking to a woman named Carmela. You walked in and met his beautiful brown eyes, and it was all over for you.
You had fallen for him, the rich boy with poetic words. Mike just watched the whole scene unfold, his heart already clenching at what was to come. You had absorbed at the sweet words Scott said, your world slowly molding to fit his taste.
"Your name, madam?" Scott smoothly inquired, giving you all his undivided attention. It made you feel special, so damn special. Nothing could beat this wonderful, the sensation of falling in love was incredible.
You smiled brightly, giving an eager reply, "[Name]."
He was so alluring to you, he talked like a gentleman towards you, especially when other men were vulgar. You swore Scott was everything you imagine when you sat daydreaming in your bed when you were young.
"You're a great friend, Scott. I'm glad you're here for Mike." You mentioned one night, your tone filled with admiration. You had learned about Mike's narcolepsy, and how Scott helped his best friend, especially in compromising situations. You were glad, Mike was such a sweet person, he needed someone to depend on.
"I'm glad too. Mike is my best friend." Scott replied, pushing a lock of hair out of your face and behind your ear. You felt so adored, encompassed by his love, especially in moments like this where you both laid next to each other, tangled in the bedsheets.
These were moments you cherished so dearly, it was these moments where you believed you were in love with Scott Favor. Even when him and Mike were gone often, you enjoyed their company. You couldn't get enough of the sweet things he'd whisper into your ear.
"You're beautiful, [Name]. You're the light of my life and I can't live without you." Scott mumbled to you, and you felt yourself blush heavily.
"I don't think I could go on without you either." You softly replied, still gazing into the brown eyes you loved so dearly.
The love you held for Scott Favor had blossomed over the months you knew him, and you grew have a magnificent with Mike as well. Although, sometimes it seemed as if Mike knew something you didn't, and you couldn't point it out. After a period of time, you decided to ignore the gut feeling.
Scott was a lovely boyfriend, but a complex person. Sometimes he reminded you of a Shakespearean character, but he'd laugh off your comment about if. You found out about his home life and his father, and it sounded rough. But you wanted to always be supportive because that's what girlfriends do, right?
"You know, I'll always be here for you." You inform Scott, grasping his hand tightly. It seemed if you didn't hold on any tighter, he'd disappear all together.
But his grasp onto was equally firm and comforting, "I know. I'm glad you're mine."
You loved the little things he did for you too. Sometimes he'd leave you notes, and they were incredibly cheesy ones too.
"Roses are red? C'mon Scott, I thought you were more creative than that." You pointed out, laughing at the note you found.
"But you love them." He declared with a smug smirk, leaving you feeling like a mess.
You loved Scott Favor so much, so it had shattered your entire being when you saw him with that woman.
What was her name? That's right—Carmela—the woman you first saw at the bar. It was heart-wrenching sight, and you couldn't even comprehend the wave of emotions you felt. You didn't understand what led to this moment.
What had went wrong? Things were going so well, at least it had seemed so. You lived with Scott, although it seemed like you saw Mike more than you saw your own boyfriend. But now? It all made sense, especially Mike's pitiful gazes at you.
There was clothes scattered all over your bedroom floor, but you knew they weren't yours. It was a cruel fate, walking into that scene, and the worst part was they didn't even bother locking the damn door.
You just stare in complete and utter shock, backing into the wall, causing the picture of him and you fall down with a loud shattering sound. It was a loud, enough to catch the attention of the pair on the bed.
You didn't know what Scott wanted to say, especially when stared straight into with those brown eyes of his. Carmela was still latched on to him, but you were already backing away.
"[Name]..." He'd helplessly call out to you, trying to get up, only for Carmela to pull him back into her embrace. It really didn't matter to her whether she sabotaged your relationship with Scott.
You just walked out that apartment, rushing downstairs. Your version felt blurry, with hot tears running down your face, and bet you looked like hell but you felt like it too.
You wanted to get anywhere but here as you pushed past individuals, and it felt like the engagement ring around your finger was burning you. You thought the day proposal was the happiest day of your life, mostly because you'd never expect for Scott to drop his old lifestyle for you.
And in the end, you found yourself leaning on the tree on top of that hill, looking over the cliff. Down below was a beautiful lake, and it was one of fondest memories with Scott, even if they're all tainted now.
Scott left Carmela on his bed, the one that belong that also belonged to you, as soon as you left the door. He kept looking and looking, driving around until he found you looking over that cliff, leaning against the tree.
He hiked up the hill, falling onto his knees and pulling you into his arms. A shiver a disgust, hurt, and resentment ran through you but you had no motivation to pull away. You seemed numb, even as his thumb brushed against your cheek.
"I'm sorry." He apologized.
"No, you're not sorry. If you were sorry, you wouldn't had done that." You hissed, letting the lividness swallow you up.
"What's next?" He questioned, and for once, it seemed like Scott Favor wasn't high and mighty.
"There is no 'next,' Scott. I'm done." You declared, trying hard not to let your voice crack. With that being said, you ripped yourself from embrace and stood up.
He still was on his knees, looking up at you. You were wearing a white summer dress, and pair of old converses. It was in his moment of weakness did he realize how badly he screwed up, especially with what came next.
You slowly took the diamond engagement ring off your ring, taking the ring and placing it into his hands.
"[Name], can we—" He pleaded, and for a moment, you felt angry, along with a surge of power. For once, you had control, but at what cost? Your engagement.
"You can ask Carmela to be Mrs. Favor because it ain't me." You decreed, taking one more glance at him, before hiking down the hill by yourself.
Scott Favor was a gentleman, and he seemed so saintly—he was every thing you imagine when you were young. But you seemed a bit older once you reached the bottom of the hill, and in the end, Scott wasn't what you'd imagined, but he'll be more than you'll ever know.
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
When you were young
I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know
Author's Note:
I based this off The Killer's music video for When You Were Young, if you haven't caught on yet. In the end of the video, the ending is vague, but in alternative versions, the wife kills herself. I was originally was going to end in that direction, but decided against it.
I was dying to write something based off the video but I wasn't too sure who'd fit the story. In the end, I'd figure Scott Favor from My Own Private Idaho would be perfect. It isn't implied where this takes place, but I'd figure it be somewhere in the USA or the normal settings for MOPI. I am aware Carmela doesn't meet Scott until Mike and him head to Europe, but I changed a few things for the plot. I guess you could say this is some sort of alternative universe lol.
I love Keanu to dead, he's my favorite actor (and the love of my life), but Scott was one of his characters that made me so damn angry. I hated how he left Mike, especially when Mike told him how he felt, and married Carmela.
Anyway, I apologize for any grammar, spelling, punctuation errors, and for this note being so long.
