Girlfriend In A Coma || Les Anderson

AS CLICHÉ AS IT sounded, everything had happened so fast. Les, for the most part, was a safe driver. He finally had received his license, and he actually studied hard for the exam. Of course, the driving section was the easy part. It was just focusing and remembering the various laws—that was the hard part. Either way, he felt as if he was a certified safe driver, so he would had never saw this moment coming.

It was late in the evening, and Les was driving you home after a spectacular date. It was the first anniversary he shared with you, so he had carefully planned this date. He'd laugh at the countless times Dean told him to shut his trap about you, but Les couldn't help it. He really loved you.

As ridiculous as it sounded to others, Les decided to give you a promise ring during the date. First, he decided to take you to a restaurant. It wasn't an extremely high-end place, after all, he's only a senior working at fast-food restaurant. But it was a cozy Italian restaurant, which was where you had your first date with him.

"I can't believed you remembered." You told him, a huge beautiful grin on your face. The waitress had just placed your meals down. You looked bewitching, especially with the candlelight illuminating your face. How could Les get so lucky?

"Of course I remembered! I don't think I'd ever forget." Les replied with a large grin of his own.

Afterwards, he had taken you to see a cheesy horror movie. You weren't like the previous girls he had taken out before—you loved horror movies. In fact, it seemed like you were the one comforting Les at the more explicit scenes.

"It's okay, Les. I'm here." You'd whisper jokingly, finding his fear humorous. Les pouted, but he kept snuggling into you as another character was brutally murdered.

"Shut up..." Les mumbled. His reply didn't have a bite, and you just grinned. What a baby.

When the movie was done and over with, Les decided to give you the promise ring. It was just the two of you sitting in his fancy car at the theater's parking lot. It wasn't the most romantic setting, but the moment he had given you the ring, you had teared up.

"I know this sounds a bit old-fashioned and silly, but I really mean it. As soon as we can, do you want to get married?" Les asked, holding the ring out to you. It wasn't anything too extravagant, it was just a small fake diamond. Fake or not, you had cherished it like it was the most priceless thing in the world.

You laughed, tearing up a bit, "As silly as this sounds, I can't imagine myself being with anyone else but you, Les."

"I'm glad...wait—silly?!" Les exclaimed dramatically, causing you to giggle more. The ring looked so nice on you.

After the emotional exchange, Les decided to drive you home, and that's when things went south. He had been safe, he swore to everyone. He stopped at the stop sign, and decided to continue on when he deemed it safe.

He was driving on the surface streets, and it was about nine o' clock in the evening. You two were joking and talking, and nothing seemed wrong as pressed on the gas, going across the intersection.

It happened so fast that Les Anderson didn't see the car until they collided. Everything ached and his vision was blurred. Les was sure he had a concussion from the airbag going off alone, and that he'd have a black eye from it.

"[Name]...[Name]...?" Les weakly called out, his eyes watery, blurring his vision more. Adrenaline and fear was pumping fiercely in his veins.

You weren't responding. In fact, your side of the car had been where the impact happened, and you seemed to be squished. Your head was bloody, and breaths were faint.

Les cried for anyone to help.

You weren't replying back, and it filled trepidation in Les. He couldn't lose you.

It wasn't until hours later until Les was able to see you. He was bandaged, wearing an arm cast, and doped on all kinds of pain medication, but he still wanted to see you. He silently sat in the visitors chair, hearing the beeping of the cardiac monitor and the faint whispers of your parents' and the doctor's conversation.

It made him sick and scared, seeing all these tubes and bandages on you. Your leg was broken too.

Everyone kept telling Les he wasn't at fault, yet he felt the guilt consuming him. If he had noticed that car a split second sooner, you'd be awake. But he didn't see, and you weren't awake because of that mistake.

This was too serious and too much to handle for Les Anderson, especially as he kept visiting. Les's family, along with your family, was suing the intoxicated driver who ran the stop sign.

"Do you really think she'll pull through?" Les quietly asks the doctor. His bruises were a faint bluish yellow color, and so were yours. The only difference was that you still laid on the hospital bed, looking so serene and it frightened Les so badly. You seemed like an angel.

The doctor takes a few moments to reply, before sighing and muttering, "I really hope so, kid."

Les hoped so too, but seeing the grimace on your doctor's face, he knew better.

A few months had gone by, and Les's cast was off. He still visited everyday, and sometimes his friends would tag along. Although, today he was by himself once more.

It would be the last time he'd see you in bed, draped in the hospital sheets. After long arguments and consideration, your parents' decided to let you rest. Unfortunately, your condition wasn't improving, and you were left in a vegetative state.

Once more, everyone kept telling Les it wasn't he fault, but he knew better.

"I love you, [Name]. I'm so sorry...I wish we could've had that wedding I promised you. I love you to death, and I always will. I swear on that." Les whispered to you, but he never received a response back—not even a twitch.

He knew this was serious, but he'd never realize how much it would hurt until you were gone.
