Matched [multi ship]
Hey everyone :)
I wrote this cute little drabble and I hope you enjoy it. The soulmate ceremony is based on Ally Condies matched trilogy. So credit goes to her.
Anyway have fun reading and feel free to say what you think about it.
The doors of the Great Hall opened. It already looked wonderful on average days, but now it was marvelous. The teachers outdid themselves. Instead of the house tables there were many small tables, all richly decorated with candles and flowers and silken tablecloths. The walls were covered with huge banners of each Hogwarts house, its crest itself but also the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang crest.
It was the day of the soulmate ceremony. During this ceremony the students from fifth to seventh year would take part in a complex and complicated enchantment to discover their soulmate. No student was forced to take part, but most did anyway. Soulmates were often from their own school although they had many from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, very seldom from another school or a different age group. That was why the ceremony took place once every three years in one of the schools. This time it was Hogwarts turn.
The students of each school entered the Great Hall. It was already filled with parents, none of them wanting to miss it. They remembered the day they were matched, they're excitement and nervousness of not only meeting your soulmate but also their parents. Now that they were the parents they thought it'd be less nerve racking but oh how wrong they were. Not even the teachers were immune to the nerves.
The only difference was that the teachers were nervous to see their ship happen since they placed bets on who would be matched. Not that they'd ever admit it to anyone else. They also had a ranking system on who had the most ships happening and Professor McGonagall was anxious to finally beat Dumbledore and take the throne. He was Ship Master since 1936 and no one was ever as close to beating him as McGonagall.
So now everyone watched the students enter, none of them as anxious as one Harry Potter. Since first setting foot into Hogwarts many people wanted to date the boy who lived, the chosen one. But none of them wanted him. Wanted Harry. What if his soulmate didn't want him either? What if they only wanted his scar and his fame? Or worse and he had no soulmate at all? Sirius and Remus tried to soothe him, telling him everything about their ceremony and how they were matched along with his parents. But honestly, only because they were made for each other didn't mean someone was made him. All he wanted to do was run away and never come back but he knew that Hermione would kill him if he'd quit. So he forced a smile on his lips and took his seat. Luckily the students were allowed to sit with their family so he was seated next to Sirius and Remus. Neville and his Gran were share their table. He wanted to sit with the Weasleys but the tables weren't big enough. But he supposed Neville wasn't that bad either. Especially since he seemed to be as nervous as Harry.
Before the ceremony was started a banquet was held. The food was even more fabulous than ever, the house elves truly outdid themselves. However it was wasted on the students since none of them seemed to be able to eat much. Not even Ron could eat as much as he usually did. He and Ginny were going to be sorted tonight. The only ones left of their family. Well, besides Charlie. But he choose dragons over soulmates and seemed happier than Molly thought he'd be. So for now the only one truly enjoying the feast seemed to be Dumbledore who took his time eating while everyone else was already finished.
Finally he was fed up and stood. The ceremony began. Now each student had to take a potion not unlike Verita serum and Amortentia. After that, the heads of house and headmasters performed a complicated spell while the students wrote their names on a piece of paper. The spell enabled that while writing the students put every aspect of their soul, of themselves in their name. Now they dropped the parchment into the Goblet of Fire and had to wait while it made its decision. Those few minutes seemed to be the longest and worst of their lives. Anxious to finally meet their soulmate, it seemed like hours and hours. After what felt like years of waiting the first two slips of parchment came out. The first match of the day. Dumbledore read them out loud. "Hannah Abbott and Neville Longbottom." Neville was relieved. Hannah was always so nice and he was sure his grandma liked her too. She had to. Harry congratulated his mate, glad that he seemed happy. The next match. Seamus Finnegan and Dean Thomas. Everyone celebrated with them. There was no one who didn't saw that coming. They both were already sitting at the same table and everyone watching could see the love in their eyes when they leaned into a sweet, loving kiss. Remus and Sirius looked into each others eyes and smiled. Those two boys remembered them of their ceremony, the best day in their lives.
The next few couples were from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. But then, Hogwarts again. Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood. Harry was thrilled. McGonagall not so much. She believed Ginny to be with Harry and of course Dumbledore bet on Luna. This was going to be tough.
In the next one Crabbe was paired with a good looking Durmstrang boy and Goyle with a sweet Beauxbatons girl. They made better matches than Harry had thought and it gave him hope. It gave also McGonagall hope since Dumbledore bet on them being matched while she tipped them with another school. She could win.
Lavender was matched with Parvarti, again no one was surprised but everyone was cheering loudly. Colin Creevey got matched with a cute Beauxbatons boy and both seemed to be in heaven. The next match. Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley. Then a third slip came out. Pansy Parkinson. Everyone was speechless. This never had happened before. Hermione was blushing but looked quite pleased. As did Ron. Only Pansy was smirking and looked like she knew it all along.
After everything calmed down, the ceremony continued. Theo Nott and Blaise Zabini were each matched with a Beauxbatons guy. Both seemed happy.
Now the moment of truth came for Harry. His name was being called. Along with....... Draco Malfoy.
Everyone went silent. Watching the two 'arch-enemies' taking in the news. Both looked shocked but also kind of relieved. And happy.
The silence was soon disrupted by Lucius snorting amused and saying for the whole hall to hear. "At least I don't have to get used to you talking about someone else than Potter." Draco flushed beet red while the whole room erupted in laughter. He caught Harry's eyes who smiled brightly at him and winked. He supposed this wasn't going to be bad at all.
After the ceremony was over the teachers got together to pay their debts. McGonagall cursed. Dumbledore was Ship Master again.
