Eiji...
It was hard for Katsuki, not yelling at his fellow survivors as they packed the vehicles.
He's had to yank the weapons dufflebag off the roof of the SUV. It was like they wanted the guns ruined. Have they not noticed the angry gray clouds moving in? He's had to reorganize the knapsacks on the floor to make his morons some foot room.
Someone tried shoving their stored food in a knapsack and he nearly screamed. Cooler. They have a cooler and lunchboxes, much better for storing food.
It's like these people have never packed for a trip in their lives. Yes, sure, it is still the apocalypse, but they have to fit seventeen asses in just two vehicles until they reach the next one. Yes, they do have fifteen ass-cushions, but they need to have enough room for food, clothes, weapons, medical necessities, hygienic necessities, bedding, etc...
Have it all cleverly stacked to have enough room. Comfort won't matter until they reach the mini-van. They can be comfortable then, when they have an extra seven seats and can spread out the supplies. Then more when they get Katsuki's truck. Someone could even lay in the bed.
Katsuki went back up to his room, just making sure he wasn't leaving anything behind when he heard a paper flutter. He left his window open to get a breeze as he hustled to pack. The room was musty and he wanted fresh air, which caused the little rustling.
He looked down, spotting a folded piece of paper, and he knew immediately what it was.
The blond crouched down, carefully picking up the paper, unfolding slowly to read the neat writing again.
Dear Katsuki...
~
Katsuki slouched as he drove the SUV, one hand on the steering wheel.
"I just have one question."
Katsuki groaned, rubbing his face with his free hand. Barely five minutes was how long he could get the idiots to play the silent game. To be fair, it was longer than he thought they'd last.
Hanta twisted to face Katsuki, being in the passenger seat. "Why are you wearing a seatbelt?"
"What!?"
"He's wearing a seatbelt!? Ha!"
Katsuki grit his teeth, the two in the trunk cackling like morons as the ones between smiled or covered their chuckles.
"My friend I traveled with has seen Brutes topple moving cars, so..."
The car went silent, a few faces paling. Katsuki smirked as he heard a few seatbelts clicking, Denki and Eijirou whispering harshly to each other in the back as they scrambled to search for something to strap themselves in.
They're too easy.
~
Katsuki stepped out of the SUV, tossing the minivan keys up in the air. "Who's driving the mom car?"
Denki snickered as he and Eijirou climbed out of the trunk.
Shouto took the keys, shouldering his knapsack. "I'd like to drive. I need the legroom."
"Oh my God, will you stop complaining about my bags?" Momo pouted, arms folded under her chest. "Leave a girl and her necessities alone."
"Bags!?" Katsuki whipped around to the ravenette, startling her. "Everyone was limited to one bag!"
"Holy shit, do you want to summon an entire city of infected?" Mina grabbed Katsuki's hair and pulled his head back, Hanta snorting behind his hand.
Katsuki growled and swatted at her hand.
Shouto unlocked the car and they transferred some of the bags into the trunk and back seat as new seating arrangements were made.
Shouta counted heads as the group dispersed into the three cars, approaching Katsuki as the younger shut the trunk to the SUV. "Katsuki, Eijirou and Ochako are missing."
Katsuki snapped his head up, quickly spinning to look around. "You're sure?"
"Checked every car, and counted three times. Ochako and Eijirou aren't here."
"Fuck!" Katsuki swerved around Shouta, swinging open the side door to dig into his duffle bag. "Make sure everyone stays inside, Hanta, come with me!"
The ravenette hopped out of the passenger seat, slipping around the trunk, catching the knife Katsuki tossed to him and taking the pistol offered by Shouta. Katsuki unholstered his own gun and grabbed his machete, snapping to Tenya as the taller tried to follow.
"Ochako-"
"You fuckin' stay here, four-eyes. Can't have too many gone, I need you to stay in case they come back. Make sure everyone else stays." Katsuki didn't let Tenya get in another word as he slammed the door shut.
He watched as Shouta got into his car, then lead Hanta into the city.
Damn, of course they had to do this. The sun will be setting soon, they're supposed to be heading to the truck. Supposed to be heading towards their new home.
Hanta kept close, eyes sweeping the abandoned street.
Katsuki held both machete and gun at eye-level, jaw tensed. He immediately recognized the shattered glass door he destroyed. Two carcasses lay mostly eaten, one he recognized as Tobey by the torn jeans and terrible tourniquet. The other he couldn't tell. And that meant that the other two were dragged away and eaten elsewhere, or they became infected.
Both snapped their heads up as debris fell from a building, Katsuki resisting the urge to scream as he saw black and red hair.
Eijirou grinned and waved sheepishly from the roof of the building, Ochako peeking over.
Katsuki threw his arms in a wild gesture.
Eijirou cupped his hands and leaned over. "I heard someone, bro!"
Scoffing, Katsuki folded his arms. "You're fucking stupid. You probably heard our own voices echoing. Fucking get down here, we're leaving."
Ochako leaned over as well, grasping the edge of the roof. "No, seriously! We heard someone calling-"
"Help! I can hear you! Please, help me!"
Katsuki felt his entire body tremble, starting from the nape of his neck and down to his toes. His eyes widened, mouth running dry and skin paling. He couldn't yell as the two on the roof quickly ran back inside the building.
He hissed under his breath, yanking on Hanta's hoodie as he ran up the stone staircase to the broken doors.
"Help me! I'm lost!"
"Hey-" Hanta began to shout, but Katsuki snapped back with a terrified glare. Hanta then realized what was going on, paling himself. "Mimic..." not a question. Confirmation.
Katsuki could have sworn he told everyone what a Mimic was. Maybe they don't remember? Maybe they don't realize he was serious?
Both could hear their group mates rushing down the stairwell.
Hanta jogged up after Katsuki, gun ready.
"Help, please!"
As they got closer, Katsuki recognized that voice. His pulse raved so hard, he could hear it. He skidded to a halt as they got to the opening of the lobby on the third floor. His arm whipped out, catching Hanta.
Shindo Yo swayed and stepped sluggishly, his wounded leg dragging behind. His skin was pale, bite marks crusted around the edges along his arms, leg and neck.
How could he have survived that? He shouldn't have even been able to turn... and now he's a Mimic.
"Help!"
"Hey, hey!" Eijirou and Ochako burst from the door behind the large U-shaped desk, Eijirou hopping over. "Hey, quiet down or you'll call over infected!"
Katsuki wanted to call out. He wanted to scream or to shoot Shindo, but shock held him frozen in place, unable to even breathe as he could only watch.
Shindo snarled as he grabbed onto Eijirou, the man startling and quickly attempting to retaliate, trying to push away. Shindo's reddened teeth sank into Eijirou faster than anyone could even think.
Eijirou screamed as he fell back, thrashing beneath Shindo.
Ochako wailed and scrambled away, Hanta yanking on Katsuki's arm.
Katsuki jumped forward, grabbing Shindo's torn leather jacket, ripping the infected off of his friend, Hanta diving beside Eijirou.
Shindo hissed and snapped his jaws, reaching up for Katsuki. He wanted a good bite out of him too.
Katsuki yelled, tears stinging his eyes as he slammed his fist clutching his machete down on Shindo's face. One hit after another, his fists burning more and more with each connection. He heaved for breath, falling back as Ochako screamed his name, snapping him out of his trance.
The infected lay still, face completely caved his. He turned, Hanta clutching Eijirou, Eijirou holding his bloodied shoulder with tears tracking down his dirty cheeks.
"Eiji..."
