┍D┚ᴀɴᴄɪɴɢ ᴄᴏᴜᴘʟᴇs, ᴛʜᴇ sᴍᴇʟʟ ᴏғ ᴄʜᴇᴀᴘ ᴡʜɪsᴋᴇʏ ᴀɴᴅ ʟᴏᴜᴅ ᴍᴜsɪᴄ was what Mia expected and got when she walked into the Gryffindor Common Room. After handing her ribbon to Remus, she headed to look for Marlene in the confusing crowd of students.
"Lenie!" Mia shouted, after spotting her best friend at the makeshift bar near the fireplace. The 'bar' was just a table with stacks of fire whiskey, scotch, rum, vodka and juice. She spotted Peter mixing drinks and being a good bartender.
"What's 'Sex on the Black Lake?'" Mia asked, after carefully examining the drinks menu.
Peter and Marlene gave each other a look and chuckled, before the boy quickly made the outrageous concoction.
"Be careful with this. It's not as bad as Black Beauty or Moon Juice but it's enough to get you pissed in one glass." Peter warned her, handing her the drink and straw.
"Going heavy, I see." James noted, after arrogantly strutting up to the bar with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He slung an arm around Marlene, who jokingly blew him a kiss before pushing the arm off and obnoxiously glared at him. "Try not to get a hangover."
"I won't." Mia replied, taking another sip. "It's actually quite nice."
"Mia. Take small sips." Marlene warned, before getting up from her chair, "I'm off to go find Dorcas."
Mia nodded before taking another sip and relaxing back into her armchair.
"Mia Pia!"
"Aghhh!" She shot up, spilling the drink on her shirt and jeans. "The fuck?" She whispered, turning around to see Sirius holding an almost empty drink.
"Um. I'll go bring some tissues." He sheepishly said, before disappearing into thin air.
Huffing at the sight of her once crisp white shirt, now a blotchy red-pink-orange mess, Mia left the party to go change into something that screamed 'I'm Here To Party' rather than 'Casual Hipster'.
"Where'd she go?" Sirius asked Peter, who simply shrugged. Brandishing the tissues he'd collected in his hand, he went to go search for her within the jungle of dancing students.
"Marlene! Marlene!" Sirius shouted over the loud music.
"What?!" She shouted back, throwing another dart at the makeshift board.
"Where's Mia?!" He shouted the million galleon question, making Marlene roll her eyes.
"Why are you so concerned?!" She asked, "Stop stalking her!"
"How am I stalking her—. Nevermind, I saw her!" Sirius shouted, smiling at the sight of her in her shirt and slacks, looking out the window. He noticed how much her hair had grown.
Had she dyed her hair a lighter shade as well?
Slowly walking over to her, with her back to him, Sirius quickly slung his arms around her and rested his cheek on the top of her head.
She turned around and dragged him into a kiss.
But it took three quick seconds to realise that he wasn't kissing Mia.
Opening his eyes in shock and disgust, he found himself looking at a random Hufflepuff, who smiled so widely before giggling,
"Yes, I'll go out with you!" The girl randomly said, confusing the boy, who then jumped at the clear sound of glass breaking.
Sirius quickly turned to the sound, and found the real Mia, wearing a loose and airy floor-length light pink dress.
"Um. I-I can explai—." He was cut off by the girl letting out a scoff.
"Save it. Old habits die hard, I suppose." Mia gritted out, before turning and walking away, her dress hem gently brushing the floor as she walked away.
Earlier, as she walked from Ravenclaw Tower back to the Gryffindor Common Room, Mia found herself bumping into an infamously girl.
"I like the dress." The girl attempted to complement Mia, who smiled shyly before responding with a thank you.
"You do know that Sirius will never have a proper relationship, right?" The girl asked, leaning against a stone pillar as she examined the Ravenclaw with what looked like pity. "He'll be all dilly dally until he decides that he wants someone better. I mean, he did it with everyone."
"Um." Mia had nothing to say.
"Don't tell me you've fallen for him. I suggest you leave before he breaks your heart by kissing someone in front of you." She stood up from her leaning position before beginning to walking away.
"Who are you?" She asked after her.
No response.
Slightly frightened, Mia hurried her walk back to the party.
Now, post witnessing Sirius kiss a random girl, Mia was walking back to Ravenclaw Tower with her high heels in her hands.
The torture devices weren't worth the pain for a few complements.
Just about to turn a corner, Mia paused immediately at the sound of a conversation.
"The dark lord has plans, Regulas. And if you continue to be lightly dipping one foot in the water, we'll have to decide for you." A voice rang out in the corridor, bringing Mia to pause in her walk.
"Yes, I am aware, Avery. I'll be marked by Christmas, happy?" The familiar voice of Regulas Black also rang out, shocking Mia.
"We can not afford to have any more mishaps, have you done the deed?" Another voice rang out, Illius Mulciber, Mia recognised as the conversation continued.
"Yes. And I am almost certain that there is a filthy, savage half-breed in Gryffindor." It was the voice of Severus Snape.
Mia had enough, she was going to Dumbledore.
Gently taking a few steps back, she walked backwards until her back hit something. Long fingers gripped her fore-arms in a clenched fury.
Turning her head to the person in question, Mia found herself looking into the cold eyes of Anthony Nott.
"Regulas! You haven't been initiated yet, come here!" He announced loudly, "We've got a little eavesdropper!" Nott dragged her towards the group of Slytherins.
"Park." Severus spat out, "Black's play thing."
"How much did you hear?" Regulas asked, in a foreign, cold voice. She couldn't see her friend who questioned televisions with little people. He was looking at her with disdain and disgust.
"All I heard was the word Gryffindor." She lied, "I was just turning the corner."
"Such a pretty face for a liar." Nott grabbed her chin and angled her face towards him. "You know what happened to Mary McDonald, don't you?"
Mia flinched at the memory of Mary McDonald's bloodied and mangled body found in a ditch, near Hogsmeade.
"P-please, don't—." She was cut off by a sudden movement and a slap across her face.
"Let's obliviate the bitch and leave her to wander." Regulas spoke again, making Mia flinch at his coarse words.
But it was better than being tortured to insanity.
"Why don't we—." Mulciber started to speak but Regulas shot him a glare.
Avery pulled her forward by her hair towards Regulas, Mia grunting at the pure pain she felt.
"Well get it over and done with, Black. We have more important matters to discuss." He let go of his death grip on her brunette locks before running his fingers across his blonde ones.
Mia slowly looked up into Regulas' familiar stormy grey eyes, just like his brother's, and tried not to cry at his hardened features and stiff demeanour.
He slowly raised his wand, not saying a word, and Mia closed her eyes, accepting her fate.
"O-Obliviate."
