CHAPTER SIX || OF OWLS AND OBSESSIONS (EDITED)
Hogwarts, 1976
Good grief, I hope this note finds you in good will. Dearest Mia, I write to you to inform you of Father's bereavement with Mother. They have refused to reach an ultimatum over who is having you over for Christmas. As you know, I am of age and would hope to have you over for Christmas but my landlord is a strict old prick. You'll be staying with Father and dearest Shelly.
I wish you the best of luck with the bitch
Hugs and Kisses,
Kitty
ps: don't open the parcel, wait till Christmas Day.
Mia flipped the letter upside down on the dining table and carefully dropped a spoonful of jam on top. Gathering up the jammy letter, she balled it up before leaving it on her plate with the remnants of her unusually flakey sausage roll. 'Damn.' She thought, chewing on her nails as she looked around the Great Hall for Marlene yet the blonde was clearly absent.
Pulling her satchel from under the long table, Mia chucked out her drafted letters to her parents, both neglected with ink spillages and tears. Huffing, she grabbed the nearest letter and opened to read what she had prepared a week ago.
Hi dad,
Hope you're doing okay. How's Shelly?
"Was that all I had written?" She asked herself, begrudgingly pulling out an ink pot and quill from her satchel. Gently dipping the quill into the pot, she began to continue the letter.
Hi dad,
Hope you're doing okay. How's Shelly?
I heard that I would be coming over to your's for Christmas. Would you like me to bring any sweets? I promise to leave out anything magical and queer as I know that Shelly is a very confused muggle. I hope you haven't told her and have kept my room locked. Please be prepared to leave out mushrooms and courgettes from the food.
See you in a week.
-Mia
Smiling at the fact that she hadn't gone and called Shelly a cold hearted bitch, Mia closed the letter before pulling out her wand and fixing the parchment to look more presentable. The letter was safely put in her pocket and the other letter was examined.
Mum,
Hope you're doing good. How's Shaun? You two were doing quite well together and I would not mind if he became your boyfriend.
Releasing a heavy sigh at her own laziness, Mia began to write on top.
Mum,
Hope you're doing good. How's Shaun? You two were doing quite well together and I would not mind if he became your boyfriend. Anyway, Kitty told me that I'm staying with Dad for Christmas but you know I don't like Shelly. Can't you drag me out of there before Christmas Eve?
Don't do it if you're uncomfortable, I'm sure I could stay with the McKinnons if it gets too much.
love you,
Mia
Also fixing the parchment, Mia dropped a few honeycomb lozenges into the letter before closing it up. Clutching onto the letter, she rose up from the bench, with her bag swinging as she did, and started walking out of the hall towards the Owlery.
Hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she crossed a few open windows. Waving her wand, they slammed shut. Her shoes clacked against the smooth marble, the sound echoing around the hallways rather annoyingly so she took them off and held them in her hands as she walked.
Soon enough, she had reached the owlery. Looking around for her family owl Mr Tiggles, Mia failed to notice the sounds of someone coming up the stairs as she finally spotted the bird snuggled into another. Walking over to him, she gently stroked his feathers before feeding him a small treat.
Attaching the two letters, she watched with tired eyes as the bird flew away.
"Might I suggest milady wears a coat." She heard suddenly before feeling a coat draped over her shoulders. Turning around, she faced Sirius Black.
He looked handsome, as usual, as though he'd stepped out of one of Marlene's girly magazines. His black hair tousled in a sexy way, and his shirt highlighting his toned stomach. It infuriated her with how he'd manage to make her knees weak without any hesitation. Yet the best friend code came to mind, and she pushed down her feelings or rather lustful thoughts.
"I don't need your bloody coat." She took it off and pushed it back to him.
"Well you'll wear it tomorrow for our date as you'll forget your coat anyway."
"I'm not gonna forget your coat because I'm not going on the damn date." She huffed, biting back the urge to scream that she would love to go on the date.
"You Ravenclaws are like snakes with wings." He remarked, before popping out a cigarette from his jacket. She watched his long fingers put the cigarette in between his soft lips as the cigarette began to light itself.
"How on earth are you doing that?" She asked, amazed and curious.
"Self lighting cigarettes from some random shop up in Knockturn. Mrs Potter almost had our heads."
"I should go," Mia murmured before putting her shoes on and beginning to descend down the stairs.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Mia."
"Alright, Black."
