CHAPTER SEVEN | BARE NECESSITIES (EDITED)
ʜᴏɢᴡᴀʀᴛs, 1976
Soon came Hogsmeade Weekend, with many students excited to buy Christmas gifts for their friends and families, others excited for dates and meet ups. Sirius was one of the others.
Dressed up in a pair of light denim jeans and a denim jacket, he pulled a hand through his hair and rushed down to the Great Hall.
Mia grumbled at the garment Marlene had thrown at her. "I'll freeze my tits off!"
"It's sexy."
"Sexily dangerous." Marlene threw a pair of tights, making them land on Mia's bed. "Who cares. Sirius won't care." Mia pulled on the tights and then grudgingly put on the skirt that seemed too short for her liking. Marlene threw a top at her and then waved her wand with ease, watching as the room tidied itself.
"Hurry up with the top and then I'll curl your hair." Mia shimmied into the shirt and then buttoned it up fully, making Marlene scoff and unbutton the first three. "It's a date, dress sexily!"
"It's the middle of winter!"
"Are you a witch or not?!" Marlene waved her wand again but nothing changed.
"What did you even do?" Mia asked, looking into the mirror that was permanently stuck to her bedpost.
"Heating charm. It's a smart one so it'll only heat up when your body temperature decreases and decrease when your temperature gets too high!"
"Smart."
"I know, I did it!" Marlene then waved her wand around Mia's head, watching with glee as the hair curled backwards but scowled when she noticed one straight piece of hair. "Little twat!" She waved her wand at it and the hair curled up.
Mia looked at her hair and smiled.
For once, she looked decent.
But then scowled at her clothes.
"McGonagall is gonna give me a lecture on the dress code!" Of course there were rules about what students could and couldn't wear to Hogsmeade. Mia pointed at the banner that was stuck to the fire stove in the middle of the room. On the banner, there were a neat set of rules about the dress expectations.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
DRESS CODE
RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
1. NO TATTOOS
2. SKIRTS SHOULD NOT BE ANY HIGHER THAN THE KNEE CAP.
3. NO HANDBAGS OR PURSES DURING SCHOOL DAYS
4. STUDENTS SHOULD DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR EACH SEASON.
Marlene scoffed again. "Who gives a fuck? We can lengthen the skirt until you get out the gate and then shorten it again!"
"Oh fine." Mia paused before turning to her friend. "Lenie?"
Marlene looked up from her nails, "Yeah?"
"Why are you okay with me going on a date with your ex-boyfriend?" She asked, crossing her arms as her eyebrows quirked.
"If I'm being honest, Mia... I'm not quite sure if I'm still caught up about him anymore," The girl pulled her friend down onto the bed, "It's been months and my rage has gone to hurt but my hurt is going now. Having you go out with him is gonna help me move on."
"Lenie, you shouldn't have to—."
Marlene cut her off, "Mia!" The brunette stopped talking, "Just because I'm slowly moving on doesn't mean I don't want closure."
"You're gonna get closure, because I'm gonna make sure you two talk properly." Mia hugged Marlene so tightly that the blonde had to tickle her to get her to stop.
Sirius met Mia at the Great Hall with a surprised face at her uncharacteristicly weird skirt. He held her hand and practically dragged her to the library.
"Why the rush, Sirius?" She asked as Sirius searched for Regulas.
"The quicker you tutor him, the more time we have at Hogsmeade." Mia gave him a look. "I mean you said you never wanted to see me again after this. I want to make the most out of the time we have together then." She smiled. The pair eventually found Regulus in a secluded area near the Restricted Section.
"Brother." Regulus greeted Sirius from his seat with a smirk, making Mia violently cough in the background.
"Mi, you didn't tell me Brother Dearest was gonna be here!" Sirius gave Regulus a disapproving look. "N-not that I don't want your company."
"Mia and I are on a date." Regulas gave Mia an 'Are you okay, do you need me to punch him?' expression, making her mutter under her breath.
"Yes. Sirius and I are on a date." She held up their joined hands. "Genuinely."
"So if you don't mind Baby Bear, I'd like my darling Mia to quickly teach you first year Charms so we can go shag in the alleyway behind Madame Pud's." Sirius bluntly told the pair, making Mia blush furiously and hit him with her mini-satchel.
"We aren't shagging."
"Yes we are."
"Can we just hurry up, I don't want to hear about my brother's sexual activities." Regulus pleaded, almost begging Mia to sit down with his big grey puppy eyes.
"Yes.". Eventually the trio finished, after much struggle with Sirius constantly butting in and interrupting Regulus with stupid questions. Eventually the boy had enough, packing up his stuff and promising to have her teach him whenever his obnoxious prick of a brother stopped being stupid.
Sirius grabbed Mia's hand and dragged them through the courtyard and towards Filch and his ugly cat, Mr Norris. "Do you ever think Mr Norris will find a wife?" He whispered into Mia's ear, unknowingly sending shivers down her spine. If she wasn't cold enough.
"That pretty skirt of yours is dangerously close to breaking the dress code, Miss Park." Filch spoke repulsively, making Mia want to shove her fist up Filch's sneering face. Luckily Sirius spoke up.
"I don't quite appreciate you eyeing up my girlfriend in her skirt that is clearly below the knee." Sirius coldly said, making Filch snap his head towards him.
"Do you know who you-."
"Yes, sir. Sorry sir." Mia butted in, dragging Sirius with her through the gate towards Hogsmeade. They were soon walking down the hill towards the little village when Mia heard a familiar voice whisper into her ear.
"I'm gonna shorten the skirt now, act casual." Marlene whispered from her other side. Somehow, the blonde Ravenclaw wasn't even there.
"How-?"
"Shhhhhh! It's a modified disillusionment charm. Not exactly legal but who gives a fuck." Marlene sharply whispered, making Sirius scrunch up his face.
"I thought I heard something."
"Oh. I was just um singing."
"Well sing louder, love. I wanna hear your heavenly voice." Well Mia was screwed. Sirius waited for her.
"Oh to see without my eyes," Mia softly sang, "the first time that you kissed me." Sirius wrapped his arm around her. "Boundless by the time I cried, I built your walls around me." She didn't know why but she didn't stop until they got to the entrance to Hogsmeade.
"I really like it. You should sing more." Sirius smirked at her slight tinge of pink on her cheeks. "And did you shorten your skirt?"
"No?"
"You did, didn't you?"
"No-."
"I did!" Marlene appeared and cheerfully jumped on Mia, a smile on her face. Sirius visibly jumped back, his face confused.
"Oh. McKinnon." He drawled, shoving his hands into his jacket.
"Yep! Don't worry, I'm not crashing your date, I've just got to tell Mia something." She whispered something, making Mia grumble but nod begrudgingly. "And I'm off!"
"What was that about?" He asked, as they walked towards Honeydukes.
"Oh nothing." Marlene had told Mia that if she tried to lengthen the skirt, it would get shorter by 2 centimetres. It had pissed her off but it was Marlene.
"Well, lets get this date on a roll." Sirius dropped his jacket over her, making her look up at him in confusion. "You're wearing a blouse in the middle of bleeding winter, Mia."
"The cold never bothered me anyway."
I know Mystery Of Love is from 2018 and not the seventies but it's f a n f I c t I o n
