CHAPTER FIVE | ELDERFLOWER KISSES (EDITED)
ʜᴏɢᴡᴀʀᴛs, 1976
┍A┚ɴᴅ sᴏᴏɴ, ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ᴛɪᴍᴇ ғᴏʀ ᴘᴏᴛɪᴏɴs! Mia was half praying that Sirius wasn't being well serious about her going out with him. It was one thing to be going out with Sirius Black and it was another to be going out with your best friend's ex boyfriend.
It was one thing to be stuck with one of the most chaotic boys in the whole school for one dangerous lesson called Potions but it was a completely different thing to be stuck with one of the most chaotic boys in the whole school while making potentially the world's most dangerous potion of all time.
Just one toe out of line could end up with the potion blowing up in their faces, or worse...
one of them could accidentally drink it.
And the last thing Mia wanted to do was temporarily fall in love with Loverboy Sirius I'm-so-handsome Black. She had to admit that he was a looker but he also was a hooker.
"Oi! Mia!"
There he was.
With his hands casually shoved into his trouser pockets, leaning against the door that lead into Slughorn's classroom. He waved with one hand and then promptly shoved it back into his trouser pockets.
"Ready?"
"Oh I'm positively bursting with positivity." Mia walked forwards, so she came face to face with him. Tracing Sirius' shirt buttons until her finger reached the top of his belt, she whispered, "I think you should move."
"And why's that?" He whispered back, his hands millimetres away from her waist.
"Because Slu-!" The door swang backwards and in shock, Sirius grabbed hold of Mia, dragging her down with him as he fell backwards.
"Oh! Mr Black! Miss Park! Please do get up, the corridors aren't the right times or places" Professor Slughorn nervously chuckled with fake amusement at them. Mia was on top of Sirius, probably not aware of Sirius' hands still on her waist due to the shock of Slughorn catching her with Sirius.
"Oh, please forgive me Professor. The sudden opening of the door had frightened me and Black was simply there to trip me up."
"We've been going out since yesterday!"
"You arsehole!"
"Sorry, babe. I mean since the beginning of the school year!"
"No, sir! We aren't goi-!" Sirius covered her mouth with his hand, successfully making her shut up. Slughorn hurried out the door, mumbling something like 'kids these days' leaving them behind.
Mia took the chance and bit at his hand, successfully allowing Sirius to retract his hand immediately, leaning his head forwards onto her shoulder. "Get off me."
"You're sitting in my lap, I think you need to get off first. Although, I wouldn't mind us staying like this all day." He murmured softly.
Mia immediately got off, blushing furiously at the past five minutes. "Don't be silly, I don't want any STDs from you. Who knows how many girls and guys you've probably slept with?" Fixing her shirt, she walked over to her Potions Table, where she, Tabitha, Remus and Peter sat. Flinging her bag onto the table, she took out her Potions book and ink pot, soon grabbing her quill out of her pocket.
Sirius watched Mia, still sitting on the floor, as she brought a cauldron from her bag after forgetting for a split second. After another death glare sent from the brunette, he sighed and got up. Walking over to the table behind her, Sirius pulled out his cauldron, quill, Potions book and his wand.
"You're early." Remus remarked as he slowly stepped into the room, a copy of Animal Farm in his hand. He walked over to Mia's table and took a seat next to her. "Hi, Mia."
"Hello, Remus." Sirius turned around, his eyes squinting at the pair.
"Oi, Moony. Come here a second." Remus gave a grunt in frustration and turned around in his stool. "Closer." The werewolf got off his stool and walked two steps, coming next to Sirius.
"What. Forgot another quill?"
"No." Bringing him closer, Sirius whispered, "Swap seats with me."
"What's in it for me?"
"Two chocolate frogs."
"Nope."
"Five then. And I'll throw in a bar of Muggle chocolate."
"Fine. I want the chocolate by the end of today or else I'll tell Flitwick that you stole my Homonculous charm essay."
"You drive a hard bargain."
"It's called business with Lupin."
"Whatever, switch seats." They swiftly switched, making Mia look up from her book in horror.
"What are you doing?!" She asked, putting her book down onto her lap.
"Remus wants to talk to Prongs and I told you I was sitting next to you today." He smirked again, making Mia's insides bubble with what? A slight hatred but a hint of desire.
Slughorn soon came back in with one large cauldron filled with a pearly potion. He set it down on the main table in the centre of the room.
Mia could smell fresh parchment, cherries, rosemary and- cologne? Oh that son of a bitch had spritzed it in class!
"You complete pig!" She smacked him with her book.
"What did I do?!"
"You know we aren't supposed to spray perfume or cologne in class! Someone could have an asthma attack!" Sirius' face scrunched in confusion.
"What? I didn't spray anything in class!"
"You absolute liar!"
Remus chuckled from the side. Any fool would realise that she was smelling the cologne from the potion. He of course smelt chocolate, books, flowers and a distinct nutty smell.
Students came bustling in, frantic to start the lesson. Slughorn then began his lesson.
"Amortentia! We have all gone over the specifics of the potion! Now, pair up and begin. Any student who accidentally sips some can be escorted to the Hospital Wing and any student who deliberately steals any in an attempt to charm their little crushes will be sent straight to Professor Dumbledore. Begin!" Sirius went to get the ingredients while Mia started the fire for their cauldron. Since it was partner work, they'd be sharing cauldrons.
"Got them," he slammed them down on the table. "What do you smell in the Amortentia?"
"Cherries, parchment and some heavy colo- cucumbers." She paused from her reading and looked at him. "What do you smell?"
"Oranges, broomstick polish and elderflower perfume." Mia didn't say anything. Her heart felt heavy when she realised that Sirius still loved Marlene McKinnon. She was the only one in their year with the elderflower perfume. "L-let's just carry on, shall we?" Why should she let his infatuations with Marlene McKinnon make her feel ill?
Sirius nodded, popping open a jar of ashwinder eggs. He cracked them open, watching as they sizzled upon landing inside the cauldron. Mia roughly yanked open the bottle of Bermuda extract and furiously shaked out the bottle until the purple liquid had fully left it.
"I think we were only supposed to use three drops of Bermu-,"
"That's for the Aphrodisiac. Check your facts, Black."
Soon they were done. Sirius was admittedly shocked at Mia's reckless way of making potions, assuming that she was gentle and careful. He guessed that he shouldn't have judged her by her cover.
Slughorn walked past them, awarding Gryffindor and Ravenclaw with five points for 'excellent potion brewing'. Mia scoffed, but when Slughorn turned around, she disguised it as a cough, making the whole class gawk at the usually silent Ravenclaw.
"I'll see you on Saturday, yeah?" He asked, giving her a grin as he left the classroom for her to scrub their cauldrons.
"Mia Pia, What on earth happened to you in Potions?" Regulus asked as they sat in the library, looking over their notes. "Millicent said you were a complete mess!"
"Who cares about what Millicent thinks? She can carry on gossiping with that big mouth of hers." Mia almost snapped her quill, furiously scribbling into her book.
"Um." Regulus joking patted her on her head, whispering "Be patient, my dear child. You only have a few weeks till Christmas."
"I'm older than you." She turned to look at him. "By two years."
"I'm intellectually older than you. By three years."
"Reggie, you didn't know what a tv was, a week ago." Mia waved her hands wildly. "WHY ARE THERE PEOPLE STUCK IN THE SMALL BOX?!"
"That was ages ago."
"A week ago." In fact, although Regulus was forbidden from taking Muggle Studies, he begged Mia to show him her class work and homework so that he could 'step into the slippers of a Muggle.'
Mia still didn't know why Regulus hung around her. He, a pure blood Slytherin from a Pureblood Supremacist Family and herself, a halfblood. It was no surprise that his friends hated her and it was only a matter of time before his family found out and they were exposed to ignorance and prejudice.
"Yeah whatever. And why has my dear brother decided to hang around you? Does he want to steal another one of my things?"
"Your things?"
"Yeah, hanging around you and getting bullied by you."
"When have I bullied you?!"
"I've still got a bruise from the time you threw a PON at me!"
"Pen, Reggie. It's called a pen!"
"Whatever, it still hurts."
