A loud knocking on the apartment door made Camila groan as she lifted herself up off of the couch. It was a Saturday morning and the girl was just beginning to get into the cartoons playing before Sofi would wake up. The two girls would be bound to argue on what to watch and she needed to value this alone time she had.
KNOCK KNOCK
Well she did while it lasted. Camila scratched her side as she opened the door to reveal a face she had a bittersweet feeling of seeing every week. The man nodded at the small girl, "Good morning Karla."
"Good morning Mr. Johnson."
The man shook his head and smiled softly, "How many times have I told you to call me Dwayne ?"
"How many times have I told you to call me Camila ?" The girl sassed while now scratching her chin.
Dwayne laughed as he pulled the envelope out of his suit pocket, "It's always a pleasure when you answer the door Karla."
"The feelings mutual Mr. Johnson," The girl yawned as she took the envelope from the man, bidding him a thank you, "Hopefully you won't be back the same time next week, right ?"
"Of course not, I'll be back earlier."
Camila groaned as the man laughed. She waved goodbye to him, slamming the door shut. As she turned around, ready to leave it on the dining room table, in walked a groggy Sofi, wiping her eyes.
Sofi waved wearily to Camila, "Was that Dwayne ?" Camila nodded making Sofi sigh, "I thought Dad would bring the money."
"Sofi, Dad's not coming back. He's running away from responsibility and thinks sending money will patch up the fact that he's not here." Camila scuffed as she dropped the envelope on the table, disgusted with the thing her father called love and support.
Sofi sighed and wobbily made her way towards Camila and hugged her tiredly, "I hope he learns that money doesn't clear up neglect."
"I hope so too Sof."

Dinah let out a huff of exhaustion as she finished her final set of squats. The Polynesian girl was dead set on the gym idea. As much as she hated the idea of multiple humans in the same room together getting all sweaty, she wasn't doing it for them. She was doing it for her health.
Also mainly for the fact that her skinny jeans felt a little too skinny on her the other day.
But mainly for her health.
As Dinah walked out of the gym, another presence seemed to be walking up to her. The girl looked up from her phone to see a smiling Cierra walking her way. Dinah tried to hit and make a sharp U-Turn away from her but it was too late.
"Hey Dinah !" Cierra called out. The Pacific Islander girl plastered a fake smile on her face, "I haven't seen you in bricks babe !"
"Babe, eww." Dinah mentally scowled at the girl. A couple of weeks ago, she'd be smirking at the pet name, now she felt nothing but disgust.
"Hey Cierra." Dinah waved at the girl. The Hispanic girl pulled her in for a hug, not even caring about their sweaty bodies touching. The taller girl mentally gagged at the thought of their sweaty bodies together. Before it was more than fine, now it was just nasty.
Why had everything suddenly just changed ?
Cierra smiled her bright beautiful smile, "So hey, I'm throwing my annual Winter Fest next month."
Dinah nodded. Winter Fest was Cierra's annual party. It threw fall out of the window and threw winter right in. Every year the girl would let everyone go buck wild in her humongous house and at the end of the night crown someone King and Queen of Winter Fest. It was usually a stupid rigged voting poll. Asking drunk teens to vote for someone was like asking a lit stovetop to hold your ice cream; it all ended drastically.
"So I was wondering if you'd be coming ? You know, I need a headcount." The girl bit her lip and tilted her head.
"Yeah of course I'm coming. I come every year, don't I ?"
"Good ! Because everyone is invited this year and I just wanted to know if you would be coming !"
"Didn't she just say she needed a headcount ?"
"Yeah, I'm coming. I'll most likely come up with Zayn and Mani."
Cierra's smile faltered, hearing that it wasn't going to be with her, "Well alright !" The girl beamed as she bid Dinah a small goodbye. Dinah on the other hand simply waved the girl off, not even bothering to pay any attention to the girl.

Once Dinah made her way home, took a long shower, and put on her comfortable clothes, she realized just how bored she truly was. In the vacant apartment, Dinah had not a single thing to do.
She could call up Tori, but it would take too long for her to drive from Virginia.
She could also call up Normani, but she didn't feel like hanging out with her at the moment.
The Polynesian girl scrolled through her social media feeds and checked multiple Snapchat stories. With boredom being the only thing coursing through her veins, Dinah groaned and flopped onto her mattress.
"Man I'm boooooooored." Dinah groaned out to no one in particular. Out of all feelings, this was one of Dinah's top hated emotions. She hated, hunger and fatigue more, but she solely hated feeling bored.
The Polynesian girl grabbed her house keys and exited the door, going to her last resort.
~~~
"I got it !" Sofi shouted as she ran towards the door. Her and Camila were in the living room playing a very competitive game of Mario Kart 64 and the younger Cuban-Mexican paused the game right in the middle of their race.
"Sofia Cabello-Estrabao !!" Camila frustratedly scolded, hating whenever the game was paused in the middle of the race.
Sofi smirked as she grabbed the doorknob, "Stop scowling Kaki, nothing is uglier than a scowling woman," The girl opened the door to reveal Dinah, "Well there is one thing."
"Hey short stack," Dinah ruffled Sofi's hair, knowing it'd bug her, "Where's your sister ?"
"She's not here. She's out with Lani." The small girl lied straight through her teeth.
Dinah rolled her eyes at the mention of Kehlani, "Dammit ! God Kehlani is always in the way of everything."
"Well that sounds like a personal problem, bye !" Sofia tried to close the door on Dinah but the Polynesian girl heard a particular voice and put her foot in front of the closing door.
"She's with Kehlani you said ?" Dinah tilted her head, hearing her voice, "I could've sworn I just heard her sneeze."
"Well you must be mistaken. That was my mother," Once again, Camila sneezed making Dinah raise an eyebrow, "Hehe, bless you Mami !"
"Sofi, Mami's not here !" Camila called back, making her groan.
Sofi turned her head towards the living room, "Kaki shush ! She didn't need to know that !"
"Who is this they you speak of ?"
Dinah smiled as she barged into the house, making her way towards the living room, "I is this they you speak of."
"That's not proper English, rephrase that please." Camila smiled as the Polynesian girl sat next to her on the floor.
"What's up Angel Eyes ?"
Camila grabbed the 64 controller, "Nothing, just playing Mario Kart with Sofi."
"On that ?" Dinah asked, referring to the system, "Woah ! I haven't seen that system in years ! I thought we left those in the 90s !"
"They should've left you in the 90s," Sofia grumbled as she squeezed her way in between Dinah and Camila, "Move, you're in my seat."
"You have a designated seat... on the carpet ?"
Camila nodded, "Sofi has left a permanent butt print in the carpet." The mixed Latina pointed to the carpet. To Dinah's surprise, there was an actual butt print in the carpet. Sofia smiled in accomplishment and sat herself down.
"So what's up Dinah ? Why're you here ?" Camila asked as the two sisters started back up with their game.
Dinah shrugged and watched the game, "I got bored. So I came here."
"Aww, so you didn't just want to see me ?" Camila playfully pouted.
"Of course, I missed you Angel Eyes."
Sofia gagged, "Eww, I just threw up a bit."
"Shut up," Dinah countered, "That's why you're in sixth place."
"AM NOT !" Sofia looked at Dinah and pointed towards the screen. Her character, Luigi, falling off the edge of the course.
Dinah smirked at the girl, "Yeah, you're right. You're not in sixth. You're in eighth."
Camila chuckled at the two's bickering. It reminded her of her and Dinah a couple weeks ago. Now the two were on pretty decent terms.
"Dinah shut up ! You probably can't even play Mario Kart !"
"I quite frankly can."
"Oh yeah ?"
"Yeah."
"Well put your money where your mouth is."
~~~
Four races, three victory dances, and one award ceremony later, Sofi forked over $10 to the older girl.
"I'm sorry, what did you say Sofi ? I-I I can't what ?"
Sofi smacked the bill into her hand and grumbled, "Just shut up and take the money !"
Dinah smiled as she shook her head, "I'm not taking your money Sof."
"Really ?" Both Camila and Sofia asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, I may joke around but I won't take money from kids. You guys need to learn the value of it anyways," Dinah bent down and pointed a stern finger at Sofi, "Now young Sofia. What did we learn ?"
"That you're a cheater in Mario Kart."
Both Sofia and Dinah continued to bicker back and forth, but in good nature. Camila smiled, seeing that Sofi was finally warming up to Dinah.
~~~
Dinah and Camila walked side by side as they held the Taco Bell bags in their hands.
"So Camila," Dinah started as they walked underneath the beautiful night sky, "Cierra reminded me about Winter Fest."
Camila scowled, "She's still throwing those ? God, it's senior year. She needs to grow up and stop living in this little prom queen fantasy she's in."
"Actually, I was wondering if you wanted to go with me- As friends of course." The Polynesian girl's stammer made her mentally face palm herself.
Camila on the other hand just giggled, "Hmmm Dinah, I don't know. Asking me so blandly is so 2007. Spice it up a bit."
Dinah, completely unaware of the girl's sarcasm, felt her eyes widen, "Y-You want something spontaneous ?"
The Cuban-Mexican girl's playful smile dropped into a confused one, "Wait what ?"
"You want spontaneous ? I can give spontaneous."
"Dinah I was just jo-"
The Pacific Islander girl put her finger on the girl's lips, "Say no more ! Spontaneous it shall be !'
Camila, not even bothering with the weird girl's antics just pushed her finger off her lips and continued their journey back to the apartment complex.
~~~
"What do you think she meant by spontaneous ?" Camila pondered as her and Ally made their way down the hall. That Monday, there was a calm vibe, nothing too extreme.
The Mexican girl shrugged and adjusted her grip on her textbooks, "I don't know. Dinah-Jane is one weird girl."
"You're telling me," Camila snorted, "She eats ice cream with corn."
Ally scrunched up her nose, "Eww corn ?"
"I know right ?!"
As the two girls walked towards the outside, Camila spotted Cierra and Kehlani talking. The Cuban-Mexican girl furrowed her eyebrows.
"Hey Lani," Camila greeted suspiciously as she hugged her friend, "So uhh, you and Cierra, huh ?"
Kehlani's eyes widened, "What ? No ! She's just a science partner, I swear !"
Camila chuckled, "Calm down, I was just saying, not assuming."
As the three girls walked towards their usual seats outside, a crowd was spotted around their table. Camila furrowed her eyebrows.
"Is Lauren doing those weird impersonations again ?" Kehlani questioned.
Ally shook her head, "Lolo's sick, she's not here today."
"What the hell is going on ?" Camila pondered as she pushed her way through the crowd. To her surprise, she saw something completely unexpected.
There sat a gigantic teddy bear with a pair of even bigger sunglasses. All these people were crowding around a teddy bear ?
"Hi Angel Eyes !" Dinah chirped as she popped up from behind the large teddy bear. Surprised, Camila flinched, nearly falling in shock. To her avail, not only one but two people stopped her fall.
Dinah and Kehlani both glared at each other, both hating how one another is always in the way of each other. Dinah huffed and pulled Camila closer into her, flashing the smaller girl a smile, "Hey !"
"You nearly sent into cardiac arrest, but that's cool. Hey Dinah."
The Polynesian girl smiled as she wrapped her arms around the bear's arms, animatedly using it like a puppet, "Would you make me a beary happy girl and go to Winter Fest with me please ?"
Camila chuckled, "Is that the best you've got ?"
Dinah pouted, "Look ! That bear was fucking expensive ! I had drive spontaneously fast to Costco to get you this God damn bear-"
The mixed Latina giggled and brought Dinah into a hug, "I'm kidding ! I'm kidding ! Yes, I'll go to Winter Fest with you."
The crowd of people aww'd and clapped for the happy pair. Ally smiling widely while Kehlani just scowled and shook her head.
If only Camila knew.
