"I have news! Like I always do." All heads turn to Natalie's grinning face. "George, the guy I'm talking with, well he asked me out." She chirps making jazz hands.
We all gasp excitedly. "When do we see him?" I squealed jumping up to hug my best friend.
"It's just a date guys not like we are putting labels or anything. " She scoffs, but blush was evident on her grinning face.
"Its everything, it's been a long time you've been this serious." Ali corrects her.
"I know. And I like him so much that it's starting to scare me." She admits. Natalie hates dating, she claims that she gets bored easily and can never put with someone for more than a month. I doubt this George guy will stick around for too long but he did convince her on an actual date.
"Talking about dates I have something massive to tell y'all." I blurt out. I sit back and laugh at their shocked faces. They look at me intently. "Brace yourselves."
"Just spill you dramatic bitch!" Tokyo squeals in annoyance.
"Alright chill, well Cameron may have asked me out." I squeak.
"Shut up!" Tokyo gasps.
"May?" Mary Sol cleans her glasses.
"Lord has answered my prayers!" Ali squeals.
"Like girlfriend! He asked you to be his frickin' girlfriend!" Natalie gapes at me, her hand over her mouth.
"Yes, I know it's so unbelievable. It's still processing." I say.
"Can we just have a two-minute silence for the fact that Melody who has had a crush on this guy for forever and he's finally asked her out!" Ali gushes. We all bow our heads respectfully. I spent all of last night thinking about it. It was pretty surreal.
"I'm finding this weird," Natalie says in the silence.
"Shush the two minutes isn't up," Ali hisses.
"No but seriously, he hasn't shown a single interest in you the past years and now all of a sudden he asks you on a date and now he wants you to be his girlfriend?"
We all ponder on her argument. She was right we never used to talk. It was strange how all of a sudden he started taking notice of my small existence.
"You do have a point. How did you two start talking? And what about him and the wicked witch." Tokyo makes a face from the mentioned nickname.
"We met a few weeks ago at the ice rink and ate together. And he asked to hang out again. I think that's how it started." I explained.
"Maybe he found out an amazing person you are." I smiled at Ali's sweet words.
"We are really happy for you babes. Just be careful ok." Natalie says concerned. She was usually the one to pressure me to talk to him, I wonder what that's all about. I decide to not bring it up.
"Don't worry he's really sweet. And Alexis won't be a problem, not on my watch anyway. He says he doesn't like her." I shrug. She better not be a problem. But deep down I knew she wasn't going to be the only problem. Teeshay and I have some very strange problems lately, but I push him to the back of my mind. He does nothing but make me confused and I just can't continue.
"So you're going to say yes?" Mary Sol fiddles with the remote control, flicking through films.
"I'm not sure," I shrug at their confused faces. "I need to think this through, since I feel like somehow the whole school is going to be our business and I can't have that."
"Reasonable." Natalie nods in agreement as we huddle on Mary Sol's bed.
"Oh and do you know anything about what happened between Cameron and Teeshay, I mean they hate each other so much and I don't know why?" I ask my curiosity taking over.
"Well, apparently they got into some fight last year. It was after the football finals." Natalie shrugs.
"Wait!" Mary Sol says, putting the remote down. "I remember that night that they physically fought for the first time, Teeshay looked so angry like he wanted to kill Cameron. Bruce told me that he himself doesn't know their deal but Teeshay even chased Cameron in his car." Mary Sol explains.
"Well then I guess Teeshay was feeling fast and furious." Tokyo jokes.
"And how the hell did I not know of this? I don't recall there being a fight. How come I never heard of it?" I looked at Natalie. I was at the party with her that night. The worst night of my life, I even cringe from the vivid memory.
"Well," Natalie looks at me straight in the eye. She hesitated for a moment but then spoke. "It was the night of the accident. Your school bus accident."
I look down. Images started flashing in my brain but I ignored it. "Oh."
"By the time you recovered, it was old news, Mel," Tokyo says softly.
There was a brief moment of silence. It was not our usual for us to be silent since we are the biggest chatterboxes you could meet but every time my accident comes up, I feel uncomfortable talking about it. I still get horrific flashbacks, here and there. The silence was soon interrupted by Ali's loud munching.
"So what movie should we watch then?" Ali says loudly popping another takis in her mouth.
"Who's up for a gossip girl marathon?" Mary sol asks.
"Ok, that's cool." We all lighten up a bit as she clicks play. It was silent for the first beginning of the movie but soon after Ali burped in Mary sol face and they both had a wrestling match. Not to mention when we were on the second episode Bruce came in and being the loud ass person he is, and started mimicking Blair before I declared him to a thumb war. Which he then accused me of totally crushing his thumb.
I couldn't lie that I don't know what I would be without my friends.
...
After an exhausting day at the Sol's, Bruce offered to drop me off. After us mostly laughing our butts off at a video of Mary, he stops outside my house.
"Her face though," I say through my fits of laughter. I get out of his car and lean on the door frame.
"Don't tell her I told you. You know how psychotic the girl is. She will strangle me in my sleep." He begs, giving me his best puppy dog eyes. I pretend to think about it and laugh as his face falls. Before he could object I close his door and make my way to my door.
"Maybe."
"Also Mel about Teeshay, don't mind what he says sometimes."
"Mhm." I wrinkle my nose recalling the party's events. "But some of the things he says really gets to me, you know."
"Trust me Mel, he doesn't like to hurt you." Before I could question what that meant he drives off. "Also Mel is you utter a word, you will find yourself flying to your next life!" He yells as he drives off.
I smile to myself and walk into my house. My smile was taken to a pause when I saw Teeshay chatting with the adults whilst baking in the kitchen with Mimi. His mom was sitting at the table laughing away with mom. Those two seem to be getting close. I force a smile and set my duffel bag on the kitchen table.
"Good afternoon," I mumble. This is going to be a long evening.
