Chapter Eight
More often than not, strange sounds had used to arise from either of the two garage's. However, it was most peculiar when new sounds erupted from the Smith's garage a few days after Morty had stopped by for a quick discussion.
Now, I was used to weird looking characters from other dimensions and everything, but this colorful character was weird. I had been dragged to the garage by Summer, finding Rick and Morty in a conversation with some weird creature. "I-I-It's a Fourth D-Dimensional Being, (Y-Y/N)." Morty, having seen my confusion, clarified quickly as the creature turned it's attention to me.
"Holy shit, this girl has certainty wafting off her bad self." He walked over to me, extending his hand. I shook, not wanting to be rude. "See, that, right there, that was a firm handshake. Nothing uncertain about that." He backed up a little bit, leaving a good foot of space between he and myself. I looked over to Morty, the being following my gaze. "That Morty, right there, that thing is filled with uncertainties. That's why I'm here. This kid has been uncertain about certain events that have occurred between two household. Some sort of romance shit going on over here, confusing this poor sumbitch." Morty looked away, kicking at the ground and shoving his hands in his pockets.
The being turned back to me, "I understand you're part of what's been throwing him off. From what I can tell, the poor thing's been wondering how to fix an issue you been having, dollface. He done been tryin' to fix you up with somebody, but there's so many ways for him to done-do it that he doesn't know which one to choose. There be so many uncertainties in this house you'd think it was a bunch of-" He stopped midsentence, "Nevermind, those things be extinct. You ain't gone have no clue what they is. Anyway," the being cleared his throat, "these folks here are filled with uncertainty stinking to high heaven. I thought you was gone make it worse, but you come in here and you can already cancel out two of the three uncertainties."
I could only assume he was looking at Morty, being that he had no visible eyes, "Man, why you so uncertain all the damn time?" Morty didn't refuse, just continued to kick the ground. "Psh, nevermind. You, toots, are my main focus right now. I came over here to fix this, but I wanna have a little fun before I set y'all certain again."
I nodded, wondering what a peculiar being like this could mean by his sensing of uncertainties. The being pulled me aside, apart from the others. "We gone see what you can do. I wanna see how much it takes to break you." A sinister grin played on his massive mouth, the one feature I could actually see.
He spoke loud enough for the rest to hear, "If you have any uncertainties, you're gonna offset the universe. So, try to be confident, pretty thing." He ran a hand through my hair, but I stood tall, determined to win. "See, that right there's what I done been talking about. You gotta lotta certainty in such a petite frame."
"So, tell me, what's your name?" I took in a quick breath, "(Y/N) Addams." The being clapped his hands, "Oooooh, an Addams. I knew your parents. Did you know they were my two most favorite certainties in the universe? Absolutely perfect. Everything they did was executed with skill beyond belief." I watched, determined to beat his ass at his own game. "Not even fazed. Beautiful." I looked at Summer, Rick, and Morty as they all stared, watching what was going on.
"So," the being turned his ball-like head to the group, "what do you think of that bunch over there?" I shrugged, only thinking about Summer and Morty, "They're alright." Suddenly something shifted, and a beep could be heard from some weird machine on Rick's desk.
"Touchy subject, that one. I see now that somebody isn't to your liking. Let's see..." He walked over and stood by Summer, "How 'bout this sweet lil thing?"
"I consider her one of my best friends." Nothing happened and he moved on to Morty, "And this bundle of... hormones?"
"A great friend when you need someone to talk to." Again, nothing happened. The being smiled, "Then I see we have a winner." He made his way over to Rick, "This one."
I swallowed, trying to figure out how to best describe him. Another beep could be heard before I finally met Rick's gaze, his eyes betraying his calm facial expression. He was confused.
"Come on, (Y/N), you gotta know how you feel about this one."
Angry. Hurt. Sad. Love.
I heard a series of four more beeps and the ground began to rumble again before the being finally walked away from Rick, standing in the center of our small group and addressing me.
"It seems we have a touchy subject here. Tell me, do you regret moving here?" I shook my head as the being sighed. "Certain as hell. Damn. Do you enjoy the company of your neighbors?" Again, I nodded. "Girl, give me something fun." He paused for a moment before grinning wickedly.
"Tell me," he was suddenly at my side, draping an arm over my shoulder, "Do you favor any one individual?" I shook my head after a moment's consideration, hearing another beep.
"Daaaaamn. It seems I found it. I know whatchu got to get over. So," he dragged me closer to the group, "Did you enjoy the company of Rick when you first moved here?" Again, I shook my head, "When I first got here, I held a general dislike towards him." Silence filled the air. "Did you enjoy the time you two spent together?" I didn't reply, hearing another beep as I thought.
"Careful, sweetheart. Now, do you like Rick as a person?"
"Why are you suddenly fascinated with my opinion of him?" Another beep.
"Because he's your number one uncertainty. He's gonna bring about your downfall. Unless... he already has. I mean, you sacrificed any chance of being a part of the Galactic Federation just to break his sorry ass out of jail. But that was because you felt guilty for what you said. Which reminds me, when you walked out, you left your portal gun, the thing you loved most. Why was that?"
"I don't know how you know these things, but I did it because I didn't... I didn't want to..." I trailed off. The ground was shaking with a bit more force.
"I have found your weak spot. That man is your achilles heel. Tell me, how do you feel about Mr. Rick Sanchez?" I looked up, meeting Summer and Morty's expectant glares. "I, uh... he's ok."
"Okay? Okay? Girl, almost two months ago, you were praising his existence. Now he's 'ok'?" I nodded, hearing the beep I had expected all along.
"Bootyful, I gotta say, I had so much faith in you. But you're just great at hiding uncertainties, not at eliminating them. So I'll ask you a few more things, really quickly." He moved closer, pushing my hair off my shoulders. "Does this man," he pointed to Rick, "still make you weak in the knees? Does he hurt you when you see him with all those other women? Does he make you want to scream in frustration? Tell me, (Y/N), did he make you happy, at least for a little bit, before you chased him away? Just one simple answer, and everything will fix itself."
I stared, feeling my face heat up out of anger and embarrassment. "I-I...uh.."
The universe continued multiplying, more beeps sounding out. "My lady, you've lost. There's no longer... certainty in your actions."
"Hell eugh no, she hasn't. She never loses. Th-eugh-that's the kind of person (Y/N) is." Along with Summer and Morty, I turned to stare at Rick, finding him looking directly at me.
"There's always going to be one certainty in this universe, eugh but she needs to find it."
The Being looked disbelieving. "There are no more certainties. The- Wait. Wait, NO!"
Rick moved closer to me, grabbing my shoulders.
"You need eugh to be certain, (Y/N). I need you to forget everything that's happened." I stared, shaking with slight fear. He hadn't spoken to me in half a month, and suddenly he was directly addressing me and holding me at the same time. I didn't know how to feel, but I calmed down quickly, not wanting to mess this universe up further.
"(Y/N), d-do you..." Summer and Morty stared at me with wide eyes, "Do you still love me?"
I stared up at him, almost in disbelief. The being stood off to the side, "See?! If she's not certain, you're world's gonna disappear!" He cackled as he stood near Summer and Morty. "I need an eugh answer, (Y/N), or the universe won't be the same."
Tears welled up in the corners of my eyes as I pulled away from Rick's grasp.
"I do. But I wish I didn't."
