Hunting Diana Part 6

Chapter 6

Walking outside, I wait for the sound of the front door to close before turning around. Wyatt is standing there looking at me with a curious expression across his face. I don’t think he quite believes that I know what is going on.

“What is it Ivy?”

I narrow my eyes at him. “I want to know what you’re thinking, and I want to know what it has to do with Eli.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he states and begins to turn his back on me.

“Tell me!”

My chest is rising and falling harshly, and I can see the glow from the fire on my hands lighting the darkness. It takes all of my control not to release it into the air. All I would have to do is scare him a little bit to get some information. After that everything would be fine.

I know I can’t do that though. I can’t use my powers against someone I care about. I swallow down the urge to let it go, and glare at Wyatt once again.

“I need you to tell me what is going on in that head of yours. I saw that look, Wyatt, I know that you’re planning something. You might be the older one, but I’m supposed to be the leader. I’m the one who you are supposed to run ideas by.”

Anger flashes in his eyes. “I don’t care if you think you’re the leader. There are just some things that you won’t take advantage of. You let your emotions cloud your judgment.”

“At least I’m not as cold hearted as you. You put to many people in danger, Wyatt! These people are our family, and I will not let you put them in danger!”

He throws his hands in the air and narrows his eyes at me. “I am doing this for you, Ivy! If you die, everything will be ruined. They will win this war, and the world would never be the same. Aaron’s power could be transferred to Chris, and you know it.”

My eyes widen as he brings up the taboo topic. “Why did you even bring him up?”

“I was just pointing out the fact that it doesn’t matter if he dies or not. The only one that matters is you. Even Blayze and Clay aren’t as important as you. Why won’t you understand that I would put anyone’s life in danger if it means you will come out of it alive?”

With those words, he drops to the ground and places his head in his hands. I walk towards him without hesitation. Leaning down, I put my hand on his shoulder.

“Wyatt, you need to learn how to let some of the responsibilities go. You have us all now; you don’t have to work alone. We're a family and you need to remember that.”

He nods his head, but doesn’t lift it. I can hear mumbling, but can’t make out the words. After a few minutes, I sit down beside him and wait. My anger had melted away, and now I am just waiting until he is ready to tell me what is going on.

“Do you know why Eli lost his powers?” he asks louder than before.

“No. Will you tell me?”

He lifts his head. “His power is all in his head. It’s like mine and Chris’s. It all has to do with the mind. He overloaded. He was trying too many things at one time and his mind couldn’t take it. It couldn’t deal with the stress. So, it erased it.”

“Erased it?” I ask not understanding exactly what he was saying.

He nods. “It erased the stress and everything else. His memories of people are gone. None of the things like walking or reading. Just the people that were causing stress or the situations. He might even remember less significant people in his life.”

“So, it’s my fault?”

“No. It’s not your fault, Ivy. Never think that. He just was trying to do too much at one time. He’s a strong boy, but that was too much for even him.”

I look at him hesitating with the next question. Did I really want the answer? Did I really want to find out the truth of the situation?

“Will he ever remember?” I flinch as soon as the question leaves my lips. My body is tense, as I wait for his answer. After a minute, he answers.

“Most likely, yes. There are some cases where they will never remember, but with his powers being mentally based, it is very unlikely that he will never remember.”

I let out the breath I was holding in. I don’t think I would be able to deal with Eli never remembering me. I know it is too much to hope that he will get his memory back soon. Things like this took time, and I need to find patience.

I look at Wyatt once more. “What were you planning?”

He shakes his head at me. “It doesn’t matter anymore; I won’t do anything. It’s just so stressful, Ivy. I have so many people to worry about. Not including-”

He snaps his mouth closed and looks at me with alarm on his face. I fight the smile that is trying to cross my lips. He is already slipping up. He is already letting down the wall that he built around himself. I couldn’t help but rejoice inside. He is finally letting someone in.

“Tell me, Wyatt. Everything will be fine. Just tell me what it is that you’re thinking. Getting it off your chest will help. I promise.”

He looks at me for a minute before opening his mouth. He closes it, and then opens it once more. “Its Cynthia.”

Alarm went through my body. “What’s wrong with her?”

A large smile spreads on his face and pride gleams in his eyes. “She’s pregnant.”

“Really!” I screech while pulling him into a hug.

His body shakes as laughter take over. His arms circle me, and for the first time, I feel like we are truly brother and sister. His laughs die down, and he pulls away.

“The thing is. How am I going to do this? How am I supposed to take care of everyone and worry about a baby at the same time?”

I search his expression and realize that he is being serious. After everything I just told him, he still didn’t get it.

“Wyatt, I will be there. Everyone will be there to protect that baby. Don’t you understand? It will be the most watched after kid in the world. Nothing will happen to it as long as were all there.”

He nods and stands on his feet. Brushing off the dirt, he says, “You can’t tell anyone yet. She wanted to keep it a secret. She didn’t want all of you to stress about something you didn’t have any control over.”

“Why did she tell you then?”

I didn’t mean for the question to sound harsh, but knowing Cynthia, I had to ask. He smiles at me with a far away look in his eyes.

“Her fear changed. It went from loosing me to loosing her baby,” he taps his head, “No one can keep their fears from me.”

The last sentence hit me, but before I could ask him any thing else, he is already slipping into the front door. Why didn’t I think about it before? He knows what I fear the most, but do I really know what my worst fear is?

I shake off the thoughts that are going through my head. There is nothing I could do about it. So, there is nothing that I am going to do about it. I stand and make my way towards the door.

Before I can go through, Aaron burst out, “I won’t let him do it.”

“Do what?” I ask confused.

He flashes me a smirk and shrugs. “I don’t know. I figured he was up to no good, and you needed some help.”

“Well I have it all under control.”

“Really now?” he asks while snaking his arms around my waist. He leans his head on my shoulder and rocks us back and forth.

“You know we have to leave tomorrow?” he asks me while tightening his grip.

I nod my head. “I know, but we should only be gone for a couple days.”

“Only you would try to make a dangerous mission sound like a vacation,” he states as he laughs.

“I’m scared,” I whisper to him, and for the first time, I realize that I truly am scared.

“It’s okay, Ivy. We will be together. Who can stop the four of us?”

His question sends chills down my spine. Do I really want to find out who could stop us? The answer to that question is a solid no.
