Chapter 33: The Meeting

Xander's POV:

Sleeping with Addie was everything. At first it was hard to focus because she was laying on top of me and damn did I want her, but once we settled in, it was the best sleep I'd ever had. I never felt as rested as I did when I woke up and saw her already awake, looking up at me through those dark lashes. I could've had her right there but she had other plans.

I knew she could take charge and handle things well but it surprised me a little when the moment we woke up she went into action about the Rego and vampire issue. She wasn't kidding about wanting the meeting with everyone and so I set one up. The first meeting her and I would run together. I couldn't help but be excited because she actually wanted to take point on it.

She played off her confidence well but I could feel it in our bond how nervous she was. Which was why she was currently sitting in the office, reading up about being a Luna, about wolves and vampires, our laws, how our pack ran specifically, basically any books I had on the matter she was absorbing like a sponge. It was also because of that I came upstairs with a sandwich and some water because she'd been at it for hours with no break.

"Small break," I insisted, snatching the book she was reading and marking the spot before closing it. I set the sandwich in front of her and she sighed.

"Dude," she said, flattening her palms on the desk. "No wonder you have resting bitch face so bad."

"Pardon?" I asked, raising an eyebrow and sitting across from her.

"This," she said, gesturing to the mess on my desk before picking up the sandwich. "It's so much. I get why you're grumpy now."

"No, no, no," I said, shaking my head and holding up my hand. "I meant what the hell about the resting bitch face comment?"

"You have it," she shrugged, taking a bite of the sandwich.

"I do not," I scowled.

"Really helping your argument there, Xander," she said, a teasing smile playing on her lips.

"Watch it, love," I said, narrowing my eyes at her. "Do you feel ready for the meeting? We only have about..." I pulled my phone out and checked the time. "Twenty minutes."

"As I'll ever be," she shrugged. "There's still one subject we haven't touched on."

"What's that?" I asked, tilting my head to the side.

"You told me why Rego is pissed, but why are the vampires pissed?" She asked, taking another bite of the sandwich.

"Oh," I frowned. "I uh..." I ran my hand through my hair and shrugged. "It's mostly only certain clans that have a problem. The thing was that a lot of vampires in our area were attacking humans but they were doing it in a really shady way. Vampires aren't really allowed to attack humans anymore besides a few exceptions, also something I had to do with so I was already on their shit list and well..." I sighed. "We have blood banks for that shit. But they were purposely killing off prey populations so predators like wolves and bears would attack hikers since they got so hungry, then the vampires would come in to drain them afterwards so it would look like an animal attack when it really wasn't, at least, it wasn't the animals' fault. It took the vamps out of the spotlight from the Elders and lead clan in the state until I figured it out," I explained. "They were smart about it in some ways and not in others. No suspicion was being raised about vampires specifically but when I noticed the alarming amount of humans going missing, getting hurt, it wasn't hard to piece it together and catch them in the act."

"Oh shit, that was last year, right?" Addie asked, frowning. "When all those people went missing and they told people to stop hiking and closed a lot of trails?"

"Yes," I nodded. "Unfortunately one of the vamps I caught happened to be a member of the lead clan for the state and he didn't respond well to me catching him. I did what I had to do," I said, darting my eyes away. "While the Elders and the members of the lead clan that didn't know about it were understanding, a lot of the clans in the surrounding area were pretty pissed because he was well-loved and they've never really liked the laws that stopped them from freely hunting humans. They tried to claim I was full of shit and killed him for no reason but it got really heated when one of the vampires stood with me and said she knew it was happening but didn't know how to handle it since one of the ones doing it was a member of the lead clan. After she did, several others did as well. Which is why she and some others are actually in our pack now, they were pretty much banned from the clans after they stood with us."

"Wow," Addie breathed, blowing out a puff of air that sent a loose strand of hair flying. Fucking adorable. "You just like to get right into the heat of things, huh?" She asked, sitting back in the chair and crossing her legs.

"If there's an injustice being done, looking the other way is just as bad as being part of the act itself," I said simply.

"I wholeheartedly agree," she said, giving me a smile that had me wanting to lean over the desk and kiss the hell out of her. "It's a pity that gets you enemies."

"The only enemies you get are people that think they have a right to something they don't or want to deny others basic decency. They're not the kind of people I'd want to be friends with anyway," I shrugged.

She gave me another smile and looked away, hiding a blush. I was surprised when I smelled the arousal just because nothing was really happening.

I leaned forward and smirked. "Thinking about me spreading you out over this desk?" I asked.

"No," she scowled, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms. "It just so happens I find defenders of rights everyone deserves to have... Kind of ridiculously sexy."

"Oh, well, in that case, I have a ton of paperwork for you to look at," I said, gesturing to a binder. "Because I happen to stand up for injustices on the daily."

"Down boy. We have a meeting to get through," she said, biting back a smile.

"Did you seriously just say 'down boy' to me?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Feels pretty appropriate," she teased, a glint in her eye that told me I had to do something about that comment.

I was in front of her in a second, making her jump and squeal. I rested my hands on the arms of the chair and leaned forward until our noses were touching. "Careful love, I thought you didn't want to see my animalistic side yet but if you're going to talk to me like a dog, I might as well bring out the wolf."

I crashed my lips down on hers and she moaned, wrapping her arms around my neck. Picking her up, I set her on the desk, ignoring the books that felt to the floor as I slid her onto the surface and pulled her legs apart, stepping between them. She gasped in surprise and I used that opening of her mouth to slide my tongue in and around hers as I dropped my hands to her ass and pulled her tightly against me. It was as if every moment we spent getting closer physically, the stronger our bond became.

"Xander," she moaned, breaking out of the kiss, tangling her hands in my hair. "The books," she breathed, gasping again when my lips moved down to her neck.

"You seriously think I care about the books right now?" I asked, biting down on her neck and sucking her soft skin into my mouth, eliciting another whimper.

"Some of them are old and barely holding together," she panted, gripping my shoulders.

"Again, you seriously think I care about that right now, love?" I said, grabbing her hands and flattening them behind her on the desk, trailing my nose down from her neck to the swell of her breast. "Right now when I have you like this? I don't give a fuck about anything else when I'm with you."

She started to speak but stopped and bit her lip when I brought a hand up, tugging the fabric of her shirt down and kissing right above where her bra was, running my finger just barely along the inside of the fabric. She moaned and leaned back on the desk when I squeezed her breast and brought the fabric down, revealing more of her silky skin to me and kissing further down her breast.

Cut it out. We're about to come in, Tess warned just before there was a loud knock on the door.

I growled lowly and before Addie completely snapped out of it, slid my hand behind her head and pulled her into a hard kiss. She moaned and fisted my shirt in her hands as I pulled out, biting down on her lower lip and dragging my teeth off. We both panted and stared at each other for a moment and this time she sighed in annoyance when there was another knock.

"Sorry, love," I murmured, pressing a gentler kiss on her now swollen lips. "I could just tell them to fuck off."

"Don't tempt me," she sighed straightening out her shirt and blushing as she smoothed her hand over her hair. "We need to deal with this, don't we?"

"I guess," I grumbled, kissing her forehead.

"Pick up those books before you answer the door," she said, narrowing her eyes at me and giving me a gentle push as she slid off the desk.

"You're not allowed to order me around until you're the actual Luna, remember?" I smirked, crossing my arms.

"Fine. Then sleep in your own room tonight," she shrugged, plopping down on the chair and crossing her arms. "Because I don't like messy people and I won't take your shit."

"You're lucky you're fucking adorable," I scowled. "And we're not sleeping in your room tonight, love. We're sleeping in our room, formerly known as my room," I said leaning down and giving her another hard kiss. I slid my hands high up on her legs, rubbing the inside of her thighs slowly before I pulled back and grabbed the books we knocked on the floor.

"You suck," she breathed, licking her lips.

"Is that a request?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Her eyes widened momentarily. "Come in!" She yelled, crossing her legs and giving me a dirty look.

"Hey sex fiends," Kaden greeted, opening the door.

"Oh my God," Addie sighed, dropping her head in her hands.

"Don't listen to him," Tess said, smacking Kaden's arm. "If anyone's a sex fiend..." she said, leaning her head towards Kaden.

"It's Tess," Kaden finished, plopping down in the seat across the desk.

"I mean," she shrugged. "Both of us at least," she added, winking.

"I thought you were like siblings," Addie said, raising an eyebrow.

"Ew, not with each other," Kaden shuddered. "Ew."

Tess wrinkled her face and shook her head. "Probably the only time we'll agree. Ew."

"Except I actually mean it when I say it," Kaden countered, gesturing to himself. "Some people have sex dreams about me and it's wildly inappropriate but you know, what can I do?" Kaden grinned, inclining his head towards Tess. "Can't say I blame her."

"Who's having sex dreams about you?" Cassie asked, walking into the room with Renzo behind her.

"Xander," Tess said, nodding to me.

"Hilarious," I said in a deadpan tone, crossing my arms and standing next to the chair Addie was seated in.

Addie stifled a giggle and the room slowly started to fill with our Deltas, sentinels and head soldiers. I could feel her getting anxious and stepped behind her, setting my hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze. She glanced up at me and smiled before facing everyone as the last person walked in.

"So what are we discussing?" Kaden asked, looking to me.

"Don't ask me," I said, placing both hands on her shoulders. "I'm not leading the meeting this time."
