Chapter 3

A New Life

Jackilynn's POV

I backed up slowly until I reached the door. I turned the knob right when water started pouring out of my eyes.

I ran out the door only to bump into a wall.

Wait, no a body.

Oh... Piérré...

He wrapped his hands around me. But I pushed him away... or at least I tried. He wouldn't budge.

I looked up at him and yelled, "Why me? Why did you choose me? What do you see in me? I'm just a poor, 16 year old girl! Why do you want me?!"

I started smacking his chest, but failed when he grabs my wrists. I could literally see his anger boiling. He raised his hand and I immediately flinched away. Then I felt something collide with my face. My head flew to the side and I grabbed onto the wall for support. More tears flew out of my eyes.

My whole cheek stung. He grabs my shoulders roughly so I can't escape.

"We're getting married, and that's final! If you want your family to survive I suggest you be a good girl." he lets go of my shoulders and I nod my head.

"Go pack your things." he says sternly like he's talking to a 5 year old. I curtsy then walk to my room. I grab my clothes and some of my valuables, them head back over to him. I sling my bag over my shoulder. then we head out. he unties his stallion and lifts me up and on the saddle. he climbs on behind me and wraps his hands around the reins.

So now I'm squished between the guy who just slapped me, and a horse... I scooted closer to the horse.

But he just pulled my closer to him. I gave up struggling as the horse started to trot.

I've never rode a horse before.

Frightened, I grabbed hold of him for stability. He chuckled at the sight. I just rolled my eyes. he bent down and kissed my head.

What happened to the scary prince?

"Ça va . Je ne vais pas vous laisser tomber." he said to me in french. It translated to "It's okay. I won't let you fall."

I sat there quietly waiting for our arrival. He just payed attention to the road and steered the horse. Soon enough the thumping of hoofs made me drowsy. I leaned against his chest and closed my eyes.

And soon enough I fell into a deep sleep.
