Whenever ponyboy and Johnny were together pony always felt happy. Ponyboy only truly felt good when he was with Johnny. Johnny was like a drug and pony was an addict. Pony just dismissed these feelings as just love for his amazing friendship, until he had his epiphany about his sexuality. Ponyboy realized that he was in love with Johnny and he couldn't stand to be with anyone else. After all the moment that made ponyboy realize he liked boys was when Steve drove him and the other greasers out to the lake for an afternoon. When Johnny got into his bathing suit ponyboy couldn't help but look away. At first pony thought he was jealous of Johnnys body, but after a few seconds he realized what the real problem was. So after Johnny dropped that bomb, pony couldn't help but hide out in his room. If ponyboy was wrong on what he thought and he let Johnny know how he felt, their friendship would be over forever, but if pony was right, would they're relationship work. What if they started dating and it didn't work and then their friendship is once again ruined. Pony was conflicted and he just wanted conformation. After a few hours of ignoring all of his friends, ponyboy left his room and went to the lot where he found Johnny alseep.
