Chapter 17 : The fresher's party
"Happy to have all of the one thousand one hundred and sixty-six students assembling here with their cheerful faces," he said. Crinkles formed at the corner of his eyes when he smiled. His smile was as if each and every student had his gaze upon them. This brought the attention of all the students assembled in the hall toward him.
"Please be seated," he said. His features looked serene as he spoke.
Everybody seated themselves on the polished red wood benches that could seat four people leisurely.
The four friends sat on one of the benches near to them.
"There's Odin," Charlie pointed while he whispered in Timothy's ear. Odin was sitting at the end of the bench far opposite to them. He was gazing at the platform with great curiosity.
Before Timothy could utter a single word to Charlie, Emile, who was sitting next to Timothy's left, hushed them and turned to face the Professors.
"This university has been functioning as strong as ever for four hundred and fifty five years. I'm extremely proud to announce that all of the students that had passed their final year with flying colours have learned something that no college or education could teach."
He paused to make sure everybody was listening to him.
"That trust and respect is one of the foremost things that makes a Spellcaster. I hope, all of your journey of six year in this college will be the path of realization and revelation. Thank you."
Everybody clapped after his short speech. Ermand inhaled through his mouth as the man walked backward to join among the other people on the white tiled platform. He was still nervous, the classes hadn't started yet, which means there is a possibility of him being thrown out of the college when they come to know he doesn't have a school certificate. It was with the only faith in this man that he was seated with his friends in the hall.
Thereafter, a woman in the same sea green cloak read a list of rules from a large scroll that levitated in front of her. Timothy and Charlie were yawning while Emile was busy making sure that all of the words uttered from the woman's mouth was registered in his mind. Ermand's mind was elsewhere, he was still worried about what would happen when the teachers come to know he doesn't know the elementary magic of all the subjects that were taught at the magic schools. He thought of the girl who was caught for cheating the last day.
Ermand still felt the chill when he joined his friends. How all of that happened with just an invitation. He knew that Agledon accepts students from all countries and every varied clan despite their grades without bothering any of them to pay the expenditure for the whole six years, but they won't accept students without a magic school certificate. This thought had been distorting Ermand's thoughts for the past two days since he got the invitation. He made sure that he would talk about this at home.
"Hey, get up. Are you going to sit there all day?" Timothy tapped on Ermand's shoulder, standing in front of him. Odin was with them too.
Ermand suddenly looked up at Timothy with Emile and Charlie standing beside him. He stood up and walked out of the colossal hall along with his friends as other students were excitedly chatting about the celebration.
"Where is the celebration going to be held?" Ermand asked Charlie.
"In the large grassy ground out there. It's beautiful, especially when it's evening. We've been there, right?"
"We spent the evening there, beside a narrow lake. The water sparkles pink at that time," Timothy said.
"The sparkling tells the time, actually. In the morning, it sparkles blue, which according to Kegging's theory, couldn't be seen. At noon, it'll be yellow. Green in the afternoon, pink in the evening and orange-red in the night. Although, the best view is during the mid-night. The water sparkles purple and blue-green altogether," Emile explained.
"Whoa! Cool, as if there's no clock," Charlie laughed. Timothy joined him as they walked forward. Odin followed them.
"How did you know all this?" Ermand asked while they walked.
"I used to do research when teachers assigned projects. That helped me a lot with the extra knowledge I have in hand now," Emile replied. Ermand saw happiness in his eyes.
"Can you teach me?"
Emile's face shone like the sun just the moment Ermand asked him.
"Ofcourse, I'll teach you everything!"
"Not everything, just the elementary things you learnt at school."
"Alright."
They walked out through a hallway with a man guiding them. Everybody had uniforms to distinguish who they were. The teachers had pine green cloaks while the instructors had pale red cloaks. The instructors also maintain the building.
The students followed the man into a large grassy ground that seemed to be never ending till the bare image of hills at the end.
"Charlie and I had come here while the second years' were busy decorating here," Timothy said, turning back toward Ermand and Charlie who were following them.
The place was refreshing as the green grass. Some people in a simple gray dress with large numbers imprinted, stood at a corner of the ground as if they were making sure no one saw them. Charlie's jaw dropped as his eyes were attracted to the delicious food placed on the tables. Benches were kept near the food tables. Their seniors were in their maroon uniform. All of the instructors were making sure that everything was in place. The main purpose of the freshman party was to push the students to mingle with each other and their seniors and to get accustomed to the college atmosphere.
After the freshman party, Ermand was about to go back to the bus along with Odin. Charlie compelled Ermand and Odin to join the dorm along with them as they were informed that two other students will be moving into their dorm before the next week. Odin said he couldn't leave his sick mother alone at home. Then, their eyes gleamed at Ermand.
"Agree?" Charlie asked.
"But I'm comfortable at home."
"Oh, come on, Ermand. Join us," Timothy begged.
"I think I could find more time to teach you if you join the dorm," Emile suggested.
Ermand would definitely love to join the dorm with his new friends but the thought of him expelled out any moment constrained his wish. He has the professor's note with him, and the support of Jack but something kept him from agreeing to them. The possibility of the other Professors raising their brow in their first classes realizing that Ermand couldn't even do the elementary magic taught at school.
"What are you thinking? Are you going to join or not?"
Ermand couldn't answer. He wanted to but some thoughts told him not to. However, he took the final decision.
"I'll join. Not tomorrow for sure, but I will join. Before the new students move into your room," he replied, unknown of what will be the consequences of this decision.
I hope everything will be okay.
