Chapter 2-Help!

George clambered up along with him, and made his way, (only two steps might I add), over to the buttons by the elevator door.
The two tried multiple buttons, one with a phone on it, one with a bell, and the open-door button multiple times until it jammed. Of course, no response from any of the actions.
"Well.. shit." George started to pace, trying to hide the anxiety threatening his voice.
"It'll be fine George, we'll just... wait a bit longer I guess."

The two remained standing, and Ringo asked George about his band.

"Well, it's pretty good, we're all mates, but you don't get very far with three guitarists.."
George was really losing hope of the situation, distractions weren't really helping anymore.

Ringo just grinned at the thought of the dysfunctional band, and looked back.
"I used to drum for a band- the Hurricanes, it was called. But there were so many rows I just couldn't stand to be around them any more.. so I left."
He chuckled at this. And George looked on sort of sadly.

"So.." He started. "How did you get to start playing the drums anyway?"
"Well-" Ringo was about to tell George of his weeks in the hospital, until the elevator shook violently.

"Oh- god.." George's stomach lurched and he awkwardly leaped back into the corner. Ringo looked on concernedly.
"You okay there, mate?" George shook his head in reply, but then regained himself and stood back up. "Just- don't like elevators." He sighed.
"'Used to be a technician, actually. Looked at these things a couple times, but this has never happened before." George wasn't sure if that was supposed to comfort him or not, so he just nodded in reply.

At this point the previous conversation had ended, and the two found themselves sitting in the middle of the elevator. They waited a bit, and waited some more, and more, but nothing happened.
"D'you think anyone's coming for us?" George said as he slowly attempted to get up, but the elevator shook again and he found himself losing balance and momentarily awkwardly leaning on Ringo's shoulder.

The quakes were getting more frequent, and eventually George had had enough. He knew he was going to start panicking if they didn't do something fast. "Ringo, you said you were a technician at one point, right?" Ringo nodded in return. "Not the best.. but yes."
"D'you think you could open the top hatch of the lift?" Ringo shrugged at that, slowly making his way over. He had to stand on his tip-toes to reach the top, being sort of vertically-challenged, but he managed to unlatch the top panel and slide it off. George sighed in relief, but then his heart skipped a beat.

Now they could see the problem clearly. The main rope. It was going to snap.
