Chapter 13
Hey! So as promised, I posted a second chapter today! Yay me! Anyway, here you go
It was evening now and Lucy was heading down to the kitchen to grab food for Natsu. She hadn't had time to go see Levy today and tell her what was going on, or figure out a way to help Natsu get back on his feet faster, but it couldn't be helped. She'd have to think about it tomorrow. She was approaching the kitchen when she saw a glint of metal from the kitchen doorway. She froze, but cautiously approached, gluing herself to the wall. As she came closer, she saw a boy, about fourteen or fifteen by the looks of it, with an armored chest plate and a sword strapped to his belt standing in front of the kitchen door. Damn it. So Mira really did talk to Laxus about posting a guard at the kitchen, or guard in training since he was so young.
I am so screwed, what am I gonna do? Maybe I can just order him not to say anything since I'm the princess. I hate doing that though... Urgh, what am I gonna do?! Maybe he'll understand if I tell him that I have a friend outside of the castle who needs food, and this is the only way I can get it. As if, Lucy!
Suddenly Lucy saw the young boy glance around before pulling a bag out of his shirt and going into the kitchen. She slowly followed him to see what he was going to do. He looked around and grabbed a loaf of bread, some cheese, grapes, and chicken. He started to pack everything neatly into the bag and Lucy heard him talking to himself.
"I shouldn't be doing this. I really shouldn't be doing this, especially on my first day working at the castle. But I don't have a choice... Remember who you're doing this for, Romeo. You're doing it for her, just think about her, think about Wendy. Wendy, Wendy, Wendy."
Lucy froze as she heard the name he said. Wendy. There's no way it could possibly be the Wendy Natsu was talking about, right? No way. Well, there was only one way to find out. Lucy stepped into the kitchen and silently closed the door behind her. The now known Romeo froze and looked at her.
"What do you know about the ryu, Wendy?" Lucy asked demandingly, locking the door behind her.
The boy Romeo squinted at her then his eyes widened.
"P-Princess Lucy?" he asked disbelievingly.
"Yes, now what do you know about the ryu, Wendy?" she asked impatiently.
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you're talking about, Your Highness, and I don't know what a ryu is," he said, awkwardly shifting around.
Lucy could tell he was lying because of the way he was shuffling and trying too hard to keep eye contact with her.
"You're a horrible liar," she said with her brow raised.
"I-"
"And don't try to deny it, I heard you talking to yourself."
"I'm sorry, Princess, but I can't tell you. You can do whatever you want to me and I still won't tell you," he said determinedly.
Lucy's gaze softened. This boy was standing up to her, the princess, because he wanted to protect Wendy, no matter the cost.
"Listen, Romeo. I understand that you want to protect Wendy, I have someone I want to protect too, even if it means lying to my friends, but this is important, I just need to know if she's ok or not. I want to help," Lucy said, speaking gently this time.
He stared at her, obviously unsure whether to tell her or not.
"I need to know for Natsu," she finally said, hoping that Wendy had told him about her companions.
His eyes widened at the name and Lucy knew she had him now.
"That's the name of Wendy's friend, you know him?" he asked.
"Yes, who do you think has been stealing food from the kitchen every night?" she asked with a sly smile.
"For Natsu, right?" he asked.
"Yup, although looking at the small amount of food you took, Wendy doesn't eat nearly as much as Natsu does," Lucy said, glancing at the contents of his bag.
"Yeah, she eats pretty regular portions, but she told me how much Natsu and Gajeel eat. No wonder they noticed you were taking food from the kitchen."
"It's a real pain, you got lucky," Lucy said, smiling. "Speaking of Gajeel, tell Wendy he's alive too."
"You know where he is?" Romeo asked, surprised.
"Yes, go talk to Levy McGarden, the royal librarian when you have time tomorrow. She's the one who's taking care of him."
"Ok, but what am I going to tell Captain Laxus about who's stealing food though?" he asked worriedly.
Lucy thought about it for a while. What could he say? Laxus was a highly trained guard, and he would certainly be able to tell that Romeo was lying if she was able to figure it out that easily. It didn't help matters that Romeo was the worst liar she had ever met.
"Tell him it was me," she stated.
"What?!" Romeo exclaimed, looking at her as if she was crazy.
"Tell him it's me," Lucy repeated.
"But, Your Highness-"
"First off, don't call me that, I'm a person just like you and deserve no title. Second, tell him it was me, that way you don't have to lie, and when he asks you why tell him I wish to speak to him of that matter."
"But what are you gonna tell him, pri- I mean... Lucy-nee?"
Lucy smiled when he called her Lucy-nee, he was so cute.
"Don't you worry about that," Lucy said. "I'll figure it out, but just remember what I told you, and don't forget to go to the library in the evening tomorrow to meet with Levy, I'll join you guys as soon as I can."
"Understood, Lucy-nee," Romeo said, puffing out his chest to seem more manly.
Lucy giggled at his antics before ruffling his hair and grabbing Natsu's food.
"Bye, Romeo-kun," Lucy said as she exited the kitchen.
"Good luck, Lucy-nee!" he said, before regaining his post at the kitchen door.
Boy Natsu, do I have news for you, Lucy thought to herself as she leapt off the balcony.
Author's note: So, the plot has evolved this chapter. I hope it doesn't annoy you guys that this is going slow, but if it does, too bad, because I like to take my time setting everything up for the big boom.
Romeo: I guess this what Gray-nii was talking about.
Author-chan: Ah, Romeo! It's nice to see you!
Romeo: Hi, Author-nee!
Author-chan: Aaw! You're calling me Author-nee already, Romeo-kun?
Romeo: Hey, don't you have an actual name? Author-nee just sounds weird.
Author-chan: Hm, I suppose you do have a point, Romeo-kun. I should probably have a name other than Author-chan and NaluLuvr, huh?
Romeo: Yeah, that way it sounds like I'm talking to an actual person.
Author-chan: Ouch, but I suppose you have a point. How about you call me... Meena-nee.
Romeo: Meena? Is that your name? Does that make you a meanie?
Meena: Shut up, Romeo. It's not nice to make fun of people's names, and no I am not a meanie, just like you're not a seventeen year old who falls in love with a fourteen year old girl at first sight, acts all corny with her, elopes, then kills himself because you can't bear to live without her even though she isn't really dead.
Romeo: I guess you have a point, Meena-nee... I'm sorry I made of fun of your name.
Meena: Apology accepted. Now Romeo, what are your thoughts on how I portrayed you as a character?
Romeo: Well, I'm glad that you made me brave enough to stand up to the princess to protect Wendy because I could totally see myself doing that, but the whole horrible liar part...
Meena: First off, I totally see you as being a horrible liar, which is not a bad thing. Well, except for in this situation, but it was also necessary for the story.
Romeo: I guess... Am I going to be in the story at all later or is this is?
Meena: Of course you're going to be in the story more, as I said, you're going to be in the next chapter and you're Wendy's lover! Of course you are!
Romeo: I...uh...no...what...yes...
Meena: Excuse him, he can't talk because I just publicly revealed his crush on Wendy. Anyway, on to the disclaimer!
Romeo: *still bright red in the face* Umm... well, Meena-nee doesn't own Fairy Tail or any of it's characters, if she did Romeo and Wendy would have at least gotten an episode to themselves already, and Romeo would stop calling Wendy, Wendy-nee. Hey!
Meena: Sorry, Romeo but it's true. You do realize that after the whole Tenroujima arc thing you guys are the same age yet you still call her Wendy-nee. Also, they don't even make you guys interact that much! I mean come on, Mashima barely makes you guys talk to each other! The least he could do was make you guys hang out and have an episode to yourselves.
Romeo: I have to agree with you there. They don't give us any action, but Nalu, Gruvia, Gajevy, and even Jerza get their moments!
Meena: *nods her head emphatically* Anyway guys that's all we have time for, seeing as I have to go study ALL my math lessons from last year for this year. Can't believe they're making us do this...
Romeo: Quit complaining, you've been doing nothing but reading fanfiction today anyways.
Meena: Whatever...
Romeo: Meena-nee is pretty ridiculous sometimes. Bye!
Meena: Bye...
