“Guess who went shopping blitches?” Jake said with a valley girl tone to his voice.

And for a moment I think we all forgot about our impending doom. Just a group of college students laughing while cleaning and unloading groceries.  The house was filled with loud music and close friends. We didn’t care what happened until Jake went into the basement.  We were upstairs doing laundry when we heard the gunshots. We all took off down the steps and when we reached the bottom step we were faced with a horrid sight. Jake was sitting on the ground, clutching a bloody wound on his arm. He was crying and a young man lay next to him. The young man’s clothing was ripped and he had a bullet jutting out the back of his head.  Jake had been bitten.

“Jake! What happened?!” Petra screamed as she ran to his side. He then pointed at the basement door. It was wide open. Someone had left it open and the undead roamed in.  “Don’t worry. I’ll fix up your arm.” Petra said as she ran for the steps.

Perry and I stood in front of the steps. Petra screamed for us to move but we wouldn’t budge. “He’s been bitten and there is no way to save him.” I said trying to keep calm.

“What do you mean?!” Petra wailed.

Levi shook his head, “Haven’t you seen the movies? Once you’re bit, you’re dead. I’m not taking any chances.” He spoke with a soft tone and continued to raise his gun and pointed it at Jake’s head. “Before I do this, Jake do you have anything to say?

Jake looked up at us and shook his head. He raised his hand and made a finger gun. He raised it up to his head and made a soft bang. We girls were taken upstairs by Perry. Seconds later we heard another gunshot and Levi reappeared moments after.

Everyone changed after that.

Petra became paranoid. She claimed they were coming to get her. She didn’t last long. One night we heard her scream and she ran out the door. Perry chased after her but soon lost her into the forest that surrounded us. That was three days ago.

Levi hasn’t spoken since the incident with Jake. His eyes are full of terror and I feel as if he saw more than just Jake. He rarely leaves his room in the basement. He comes out for meals and to use the shower. I tried talking to him yesterday but all he did was push me away.

Perry has never been the one to get angry but something changed. He sits on the front porch and shoots anything that moves. He is aggressive and we do our best to stay away from him. Just this morning he threw a punch at Levi when he wouldn’t answer a question.

Jordan has become weepy and she is restless. Jake and she were very close. Most people thought they were siblings and it would’ve made sense. She avoided the basement and we couldn’t mention Jake around her or she would end up crying.
