Chapter 2

He was a middle aged man. He had patchy black hair and was missing his left arm. He was wearing a suit that was now drenched from the rain and his grey pants were now stained brown from mud. He looked completely normal... Except the fact that there were large glass shards jutting from around his neck and his head was just being held to his neck by his right interior jugular vein.

He was still twitching but he was bleeding pretty badly. We six all stood around him, not knowing what to do. He had left a pretty bad dent in the front of my car but that could be fixed. But the man was far from healable. I went to poke him with my foot but he started moving again. We all took a step back and out of nowhere Perry stomped on the man’s head. It didn't squish like you would see in the movies. There was a loud crunch noise and a dark blood seeped out. The man stopped moving afterwards. The nerve that was holding his body and head together had snapped and in seconds he was completely still.

Then Petra screamed. "Perry! What did you do!? You killed him!"

Perry snapped back at her, "I killed him? Did you not see his head severed of his body? He should have been dead already and he wasn't. He was not human Hun."

Petra hung her head and I had to break the silence. "Well human or not, we need to move him. I don't need to be charged with murder so let's throw him back where he came from."

The three boys threw the man's body into the forest below and I tossed his head in after. We were drenched and needed to get back home before dark. We distracted each other with stories about our old middle school days but we all knew we didn't know what to do. I mean, I just hit a guy who should've been dead but was very much alive. The sun was starting to set and we were still two hours away from our apartment complex. There was no way we would be able to make it back. We were approaching the small gambling town of Cripple Creek. My grandmother had owned land just outside of town that she had given to me after she died. I decided it would be best for us to stay there for the night. I knew the roads like the back of my hand and we were there in under an hour.

"Theresa, where are we?" Petra had been asleep and woke up as I pulled up the gravel driveway.

"This is the house my g-ma gave to me. We are up in Cripple Creek. I'm not driving in the dark so we can stay here for the night." I sighed and looked to my friends; everyone else was asleep so when I got out of the car I slammed the door to wake everyone up. "OK! Everyone up. We are stopping here for the night. We have a bunk bed and a single in one room and a queen in another room in the basement. You three boys get the bunk bed room, Petra you can have the other room. Jordan and I will be in the master bedroom upstairs. There's a bathroom in the basement and one on the main floor, kitchen and other crap. It'll work for now”.  I take my bag and unlock the front door. The last time I had been there was when I was checking over it after my grandmother died so it had been left for a few months.

We all moved in just as the sun set. We were in a valley so everything got dark in an instant. We had dinner on the floor in the main room. We all sort of forgot about what happened earlier. We laughed as stories about old times and talked about our future. It was haunting sitting in a lit room, not knowing what was beyond the darkness. The grandfather clock in the hall chimed midnight and we all stumbled to our rooms. I stood in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I first heard it. It was a low yell. It sounded as if a cow had gotten stuck in the barbed wire fence but as I looked out the window, I saw it was much more than that.
