Taehyung

"Thank you so much," I bow politely and collect the car keys from the delivery manager at the showroom. It was supposed to arrive sometime during this week, but it happened as a pleasant surprise today.

"Congratulations, appa," Areum claps her hands and bounces on her feet while Jang-Mi too stands by with a tired but happy smile after what seems like ages.

The customary photograph that is taken at the time of delivering the new vehicle to the customer is taken at their delivery area where the three of us stand beside my precious first car that's glistening under the late evening sun, and we all pose with big smiles.

This is the first time that I'm owning a brand new car, and even though it is bought with a car loan, it still makes me feel as if I have achieved a new milestone in life. I did own a used car previously to fine tune my driving skills, but when Jang-Mi resigned her job and the entire load of the housing loan and all other expenses fell upon me, I eventually ended up selling that car because I couldn't afford the fuel and maintenance for it anymore.

But now with my new job that pays me almost over double the money from my previous job, I can comfortably own and maintain a car and drive it around everyday.

Areum is the most excited among the three of us, and it is understandable because for the first time in her life, she would be going to school by car from tomorrow onwards, and that is keeping her totally hyped.

Jang-Mi, however, only congratulated me like some co-worker would do. But I have crossed the point of being disappointed by her lack of emotions, especially towards me, and it doesn't affect me anymore. I don't expect anything from her, for me.

I now have someone who will be genuinely happy for me and appreciate me and my efforts with her whole heart.

The three of us climb into the new car, and I drive around the city for a while with my hyper-excited daughter squealing at the various features in my car which all seem totally alien to her, and she's obviously intrigued by everything, also putting forth a billion questions.

The stereo, the gear-stick, the plastic covering the seats, and even the seatbelts seem to be so intriguing for Areum.

After about an hour of driving around, I head home since tomorrow is a working day, and Areum would have to finish dinner and relax a bit before settling down in bed by 9 pm.

Once at home, I park my car with extra care and make sure that everything inside and outside the vehicle is perfect and immaculate so that I can surprise Maya tomorrow.

She doesn't yet know that I have bought a new car for myself, and although I wanted to have her beside me while obtaining the keys, it was an improbable situation.

So tomorrow, I would take her out in my new car and fulfill my little promise to her.

Maya is the main reason that I'm placed in this job and wherever I am in life at the moment. She's my happiness and my biggest and only source of strength and support, and I owe her big time.

I have even got the seat covers done in her favorite beige color, and it perfectly matches the seat covers in her car.

After changing into more comfortable clothes, we have dinner together, followed by which we all head to bed, but I don't want to sleep so soon. My mind keeps going back to Maya and what she would be doing right now, what she would be wearing right now, and I also begin imagining how she would react when she sees the car tomorrow.

The way her pretty eyes would gleam and widen with surprise, how her fingers would cover her mouth when she gasps, and how she would give me a tight hug to express her happiness.

I had to literally leave in the middle of foreplay, and if that were to happen to me, I would be disappointed as hell, and I'm sure she was too. But tomorrow, I will make it up to her a hundred folds and paint us a memory that's worth a lifetime.

Thoughts of her bring a smile to my lips as I turn around to one side and pick up my phone from the night stand to send her a text.

Me:
How did lunch with Da-Mi go?

Maya:
All good..your emergency is taken care of?

Me:
Yeah, it is. 👍

Me:
What are you doing right now?

Maya:
Lying in bed

Maya:
And wishing you were here 😢

Me:
I'm doing the same 😪

Me:
I want to take you out for lunch tomorrow

Maya:
Mhm... sure. Anything special?

Me:
It's a surprise 😍

Maya:
Oh wow!!! I'm excited now😁

Me:
I hope you'll be even more excited tomorrow

Maya:
How do I sleep now?🥲

Me:
Can I tell you something to make you sleep?

Maya:
Yes, please 🥰

Me:
Rest well tonight and please be prepared for tomorrow. 😏

Maya:
Huh? What does that mean?🤔

Me:
It means that you might need a lot of energy for tomorrow. So better get some sleep tonight, darling 😘

Maya:
You're such a tease

Maya:
After you tell me smth like this, how do I even sleep?

Me:
Sleep, Maya. Otherwise I can't meet you in your dreams. 💖

Maya:
I will ❤❤❤

Maya:
You too sleep well, Taehyung. I can't wait to meet you tomorrow!!!🤗

Me:
Please wear a dress tomorrow. No trousers, no skirts. 🚫

Maya:
What are you planning, sir?🤔🤔💭

Maya:
Or are you going to tell me that Maya in a dress is your biggest weakness?😉

Me:
I told you it's a surprise.. 😉

Me:
But yeah, you in a dress is my biggest weakness 😘😘😘

Maya:
Done then. I'll wear a dress, and make sure I get some sleep tonight.

Maya:
Do you have any more requests, sir?😏

Me:
Please imagine that pillow is me and hold it close. 🤗🤗

Maya:
I am already doing that, TaeTae!!😘

Me:
I love you lots 💘

Maya:
I love you more. Good night, Taehyung😴🥰

Me:
Good night, Maya!! 😘🤗

"I'm waiting near the flower shop," I speak to Maya over the phone while waiting for her to meet me. "I came here just a while ago," I reassure her when she asks me if I've been waiting for long.

"I'll be there in two minutes," she says before we end the call, and then I slide my phone back into the pocket of my trousers.

Nibbling the corners of my lips, I wait with my eyes trained on the entrance of Maya's office building, and in a few seconds she steps out, holding her purse in one hand and pushing some strands of her hair behind her ear as she looks to both sides of the road before she jogs over to the opposite side where I'm waiting for her.

As soon as she crosses the road safely, her eyes find me, and she waves to me with a big grin, skipping her way up to me and closing the gap between us to a few feet.

"Hi, Taehyung" she gives me a friendly hug with one arm and pulls away.

"Hi, baby. You look gorgeous today," I find my eyes unable to focus on anything but her eyes.

"Do I?" She laughs a little, winking. "Thank you, TaeTae. So, where are we having lunch?" She keeps trying to tame the strands of her dark hair that are flying wildly with the wind.

"How long do you have?" I ask her.

"An hour-ish...?"

"I have something to show you first. Shall we leave?" I extend my arm for her to hook hers with mine, and she does so, laughing and nodding.

Maya is full of questions as we quickly walk over to the smaller lane behind the office buildings where I have parked my car, but I don't give her any proper answers.

Once we reach my car, I stop walking, and her steps come to a halt as well.

She turns her head to look at me, and I hold her shoulders, making her turn around fully to stand facing me. Her eyes lock with mine, and she raises her eyebrows in doubt.

Holding our gazes, I take her hands in mine.

"Close your eyes," I speak softly, looking at her through the wisps of hair falling over my eyes.

"What?" She chuckles softly, and I nod a few times, giving her hands a light squeeze. "Okay," she agrees and closes her eyes.

My one hand leaves her hand and retrieves the car key from my pocket and places it inside the palm of her hand, closing it thereafter so that she could fully feel the object in her palm.

"Maya," I breathe out, causing her eyes and her hand to fly open. She looks at the key in her hand, and then her eyes shoot up to meet mine.

"Taehyung, oh my God!" She laughs happily, almost bouncing on her heels, her hand clasping tighter onto the key.

"There it is," I point to my right with a big grin, and she turns around to meet the newest addition in my life.

TaeTae bought a new car!!!
