Chapter 36
N: The moment Esha spoke, Wren poked her head in to see what was happening, and when she saw them, she smirked, "This is going to be interesting, let me bring some snacks to watch."
"Wren, don't you dare," Celtica snapped, "if you're going to be here, don't make a sound." The hybrid shrugged and walked into the room sitting nearby to see what would unfold while eating any leftover breakfast.
BE was the first to speak, "Well, I myself don't understand why we have to talk," he eyed his brother, "It seems like you would prefer it this way."
"Yes, I would love to," Ireland laughed sarcastically, "it would be great to cut all ties to my only family and live alone."
"But don't you do that already," England pointed out, "you made it clear a couple of decades ago when you brought Kingdom of France against us."
"As if he is always against you, Father," the Irishman spat, "you were destroying my culture and my people's lives, I had to do something. And then your prized son followed in your footsteps."
"I'm not blindly following Father," the empire clarified, "there has been uprising after uprising in your country, you can't keep your people in order, and I always have to come and deal with the problem."
"Maybe because of the religious divide your people caused is causing it."
"Ireland, Ireland," England leaned forward and placed his elbows, "it has always been your inability to take control that we had to."
Angered by this, Scotland marched up to England and grabbed him by the collar. "If you continue trying to justify the shit you did in his country, I swear you will not see the light of day."
M: Esha nodded and smacked England upside the head with her tail, "Your mockery is not helping, Brat, in fact, I concur that you are causing the problem just as much as everyone else."
She cleared her throat and gave her conclusion, "I believe the problem is quite simple, Ireland wants to run his country his own way, but England and BE won't give him the chance to, and in turn cause the problems so they would guarantee he fails, so they can come in and rule how they want. The problem is how do we find a solution?"
She put a paw to her chin, thinking, then an idea formed, "I think the best way for you all to get along is simple teamwork exercises, when Eternals are at each other's throats, the elder strips them of their magic, and sets them to do laborious work like building or farming and such. I think a few weeks of doing such things will be beneficial, as it will not only teach you to work together, but to listen to each other, and figure out that if you give each other a chance you'll find that they know what they're doing all along."
The dragon looked over to Scotland and Celtica, "Does my verdict seem fair to you two, it's evident that you're the only smart and reasonable ones here."
N: The mother and son looked at each other then turned back and nodded. "I think that would be a good idea," Celtica spoke, ", especially for the integrity of the nations themselves."
"But I'm keeping an eye on you," Scotland scolded England, "no fishy business, and I mean it."
"But the whole thing is kind of pointless when BE considers for Ireland to join the union," Wren piped up, and instantly Ireland's eyes widened with surprise.
"How did you know that," the empire hissed, although the hybrid seemed undeterred by his behavior.
"My dear Albion," she replied mockingly, "the walls have ears."
It took a while for Ireland to show any sort of reaction, but when he was about to blurt out something, the hybrid quickly added, "I also agree that this team building skills would prove to England and BE how great Ireland is." After a small 'whatever' from the Irishman, the hybrid clasped her hands and smiled, "Well, well, the next three weeks will be splendid."
M: "Yes they will," Esha agreed, "I say we shall start tomorrow so that Scotland, Celtica, and I can sort out what they will be doing, who will be leading in place of BE since him doing his royal duties will interfere with the punishment, and most importantly, how to keep the three children in line while they work."
Another lightbulb clicked and she snapped her fingers, three collar-like objects appeared on the countries' necks, "there, that will do nicely. These collars will give you three a light shock if they detect things getting too heated in between you, it's not enough to be considered inhumane, just enough to get you to knock it off, and don't bother to try to take them off either, their enchanted so only I can. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go see where my boys wandered off to."
N: "Remind me not to go on your bad side," Wren said as she observed the collars, "looks like all of you are on a leash."
"So we are going to be humiliated before even starting this 'punishment' of yours," England grumbled, "great."
"It's great, isn't it," Ireland replied in a snarky tone, "having to be stuck with you two for three weeks."
England was going to counter when a light shock struck the pair of them, so the both of them shut up.
"And I have to be with the both of you," BE sighed as he got to his feet, "I don't know what's worse, being with Ireland or with the both of you," and with that, he walked out to do his duties while he still can.
As he did, a ginger cat walked into the room, its silver eyes staring at everyone, which confused Wren so she got up to meet it. The moment she was within reach, the cat swiped at her legs, causing the hybrid to jump back in surprise.
"Whose damn cat is this," she demanded, but when no one answered, she shook her head and ignored it. The cat did the same and began to follow Esha to the rest of the Eternals.
M: Esha didn't notice the cat at first, she was just wandering around looking for her friends to see what they were up to, though she did shift back to normal. Eventually, her keen sense of smell did pick up on something behind her, though when she turned around she didn't expect to see a cat.
"Oh, well hello there little one," she said, stopping and kneeling down to greet it, "I don't recall seeing a cat roaming here before, are you lost?"
She reached out a hand for the feline to sniff, then she noticed its eyes and smirked, "Prometheus, is that you, you sure are cute as a cat, too bad this isn't your base form, otherwise you'd have to worry about being smothered in cuddles."
N: The cat just sniffed her hand, not reacting to what Esha said, and took a step back, as it was confused about what it smelt. She was going to rub her head against the Eternal's hand when its ears pricked up as it sensed someone coming, and in the blink of an eye, the cat was gone. Prometheus walked around the corner, accompanied by a person. They were wearing a simple shirt and trousers, their skin complexion was dark, but what was confusing was that they were wearing dark shades, to the point that you couldn't see their eyes. They seemed to be in a serious conversation when the guest stopped when they saw Esha, so the tailor turned to see what was the problem and smiled when he saw the Eternal.
"Ah, Esha, it's good to see you better," Prometheus smiled, and when he saw the person he was with was uneasy, he quickly said, "I will like to introduce to you, Julian, he works for me."
All Julian could do was just point at Esha and mutter, "She's an Eternal."
"Yes, yes," the tailor quickly dismissed, "they didn't go extinct, they're still alive. So," he turned back to the Eternal, "I've just got a quick question to ask, have you seen anything out of the ordinary recently, just out of curiosity?"
M: Esha blinked in confusion, looking to where the cat was, then to Prometheus, then to the floor again and back.
"Um, now that you mention it, I was petting a cat that I thought was you," she admitted, straightening up, "it was a little orange tabby with silver eyes, which is why I thought it was you, but then it vanished the moment you two walked from behind the corner."
She looked down at the floor again like she was expecting it to rematerialize any minute, "I don't think that is ordinary, it just kind of caught me off, guard."
N: Prometheus and Julian looked at each other and came to the same conclusion. "She turned into a cat, sire," Julian muttered and Prometheus nodded in agreement.
"Thank you very much for the information, Esha," the tailor said as he walked past her, "now I got a sister to catch, give my best regards to Uskaine for me," and with that, he was running down the corridor.
"Does that mean your calculations were wrong, sire," Julian shouted with a smirk, racing after the tailor.
"YOU ARE TO TELL NO ONE," shouted back the tailor, and soon the both of them were gone.
As soon as they left, the cat dropped from the ceiling and gracefully landed on all fours, then she looked up to Esha and purred, wanting to follow her.
M: Esha did a double-take as the cat landed in front of her, then chuckled and scratched her under the chin, "So you want to play hide-and-seek with Prometheus, I don't see why not, I bet he's super fun to mess with. Well, I was going to go look for the boys, but how about we go in the opposite direction instead."
After a few more scratches, she stood up and continued walking, keeping a steady pace so her new feline friend could keep up easily. They just wandered around, not doing much other than seeing where everyone was while dodging Prometheus and his trainee.
Conveniently, they passed by Mandoria, so the eternal stopped so he could greet her little shadow.
"My wife used to be extremely allergic to cats," he remarked, petting the cat's soft fur, "I've always liked cats, they're such good company to have, aren't you little one."
Esha smiled as Mandoria sat down and tried to play with the cat with one of his feathers, she couldn't stop thinking about what his face would look like when he realized this wasn't a real cat, but she was glad he was happy so she let him have this.
"They sure are, she hasn't stopped following me since I found her," the draconic entity said, "I feel like she must belong to someone since she looks well-fed, but I kind of want to keep her."
"I don't blame you, she's irresistible," Mandoria smiled.
N: The cat responded by rolling onto her back and stretching out her legs, using her front paws to wack the feather. Once she was done playing, she walked around to take a quick look at the Mandorian and noticed that his wings looked weird, so she quickly sniffed them and tilted her head in confusion.
Wondering what happened, she expectantly looked at the country, occasionally darting her eyes at his wings to try to get her point across.
M: Mandoria raised a brow at how the cat was trying to point with her eyes, he'd never seen an animal do that before, except maybe Edel, but he dismissed it and spread a wing out.
"You like my wings," he asked, not expecting an answer, "you should have seen them three years ago, they were much bigger and healthier than now, I just ... couldn't take care of them for a while."
"I'll say, I don't think I've seen your wings up close yet, and they don't look good at all," Esha said bluntly. She kneeled and started going through the feathers, Mandoria flinched at first but allowed it.
"What happened to you when you were defeated," she asked, "your wings are so pale and skeletal, how are you even holding them up?"
"I don't know, it's not something I like to talk about either," the male country muttered, his previous happiness fading, "Prometheus said he could help me, but he's waiting for his sister to come. He said at best I got a few months left before they become too far gone, I just hope he actually can help."
N: The cat just tilted her head as she listened and when Mandoria mentioned that Prometheus would help the country, the cat growled and began towards where she sensed the tailor. When she was about to turn the corner, she turned back, waiting for the pair of them to follow her.
She did the best stomping that she could do, and her small stature means that it took a while for her to reach Prometheus. When she reached his workroom, she squeezed through and sat on the ground with a grumpy expression on her face. When the tailor saw her, he was relieved, "Finally Vi, here you are," but when he got a closer look his smile dropped, and turned to Julian, "Oh no, she's annoyed."
"Prissy," the cat began to speak, "you know that you shouldn't be doing this, it has a high chance that it would change the course of history, and you know what a particular someone is like about that." Before she could allow Prometheus to speak she continued, "And you said that I will help you. Come on, I came here to have fun and enjoy my three days on this planet, and I only can be here twice every 243 years, so to do a favor is a pain."
The tailor pinched his nose if frustration while Julian was trying to indicate to Vi to stop. When she was done, the tailor said slowly, "Vivian, just a couple of things you should know. One, don't call me Prissy. Two, talking cats are not a thing on this planet. And three, you gave a bit too much information that I haven't given."
"You haven't," Vivian replied with mock surprise, turning around to face Mandoria and Esha, "I thought by now you would have blabbed about everything. So guys, basically Prometheus is-" but was quickly quietened by the tailor who cast a spell to remove her mouth.
"I'm sorry about that," Prometheus apologized to the two countries as he cautiously picked up the ginger cat, "I would like to introduce to you Vivian, my sister, well, as a cat, because someone doesn't want to meet her little bro properly."
M: Mandoria stood there dumbfounded while Esha looked unaffected, "I suddenly feel very embarrassed now," was the only thing he could think to say.
"Don't worry about it, she did that to me too, I think she enjoys it," Esha smiled, patting Mandoria's shoulder, "but, now that we got that out of the way, why is 'Vivian' so upset about you helping Mandoria, Johann told me about how you regenerated his dragon's tail, why is this any different?"
N: "If it was me personally," Prometheus answered, "I would heal you no matter what, but there is just someone who is constantly watching me, making sure that I don't do something that could potentially change the course of history. Generally speaking, a countryhuman would have more of an effect than a dragon."
Placing Vivian down, he pointed over to the changing room and ordered, "Go change then you'll get your mouth back." The cat growled but did as she was told and headed over to the changing room.
"Anyway," the tailor continued, "this would require more magic, especially since it's right next to your vital organs, and magic was used to put them back in the first place. And lastly," he looked Mandoria dead in the eye, "you're supposed to be dead so there shouldn't even be an opportunity for me to help you, and let me make myself clear: I don't have the highest tolerance for people who cheated death."
"But since you didn't have a choice," Julian piped up, "my Lord is more willing to help you, isn't that right sire?" to which the tailor nodded.
M: Mandoria shrunk at Prometheus's tone of voice and hid slightly behind Esha, who shielded him with her wings and growled at the tailor.
"You watch yourself Prometheus," she spat, "you have no right to say you have no tolerance for someone who's been through what he has. So he got resurrected to be someone's bottom bitch, how does that deserve 'low tolerance', you're being a damn hypocrite since you said yourself that you weren't tolerated either."
Esha would have said more but an uncomfortable whine came from behind her, so she calmed herself and backed down, "Whatever, it's not worth my time to argue with you, come on Mandoria, I can fix your wings for you."
"Wait, you can," Mandoria said in surprise, "why didn't you say something."
"I was never told of your situation, so I didn't know," Esha shrugged, "besides, how do you think I still have my eye after I got this scar, I regenerated it, I can do the same with your wings, no strings attached, come on."
Mandoria stood there, he wasn't sure what to do now, or who should he stay with, he didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but he was also growing scared of Prometheus. He decided to wait and see how the tailor would respond before he made a choice.
N: "Well if you were in my position," Prometheus snapped, "you will damn well know why I don't tolerate people cheating death." He took a deep breath to calm himself down and continued, "But like what Julian said, my view doesn't change since it wasn't your choice, otherwise I will be hating Julian here."
"What," the young man muttered, his expression shocked, or what could be seen without seeing his eyes.
"Anyway," the tailor spoke, "Mandoria, it is your choice. Vivian and I or Esha, but my offer is not indefinite. We can only work our best at- umm." The man grumbled that he couldn't figure out the time so he yelled, "Vi, when is your eclipse?"
A small muffle followed, so the tailor snapped his fingers so the woman could speak from the changing room. "It's going to start at midday tomorrow and it will last for eight hours."
Prometheus pointed in the direction of his sister, "That's when. So you have until then to think and for Esha to help you." He glanced between the countryhumans, "so, what's the decision?"
M: Mandoria backed up when Prometheus shouted at Esha, though Esha simply growled.
"That's not fair, my remedy takes days to work," she barked, "I'm old sure but I'm not an elder, I don't have access to the advanced healing spells that they do."
"Esha please, calm down for a moment," Mandoria said when he found his voice, "I've got a headache as it is and your pointless shouting is not helping, so for the love of Grand Lord Aklous, shut up!"
Esha was taken aback, she hadn't heard Mandoria raise his voice before so it shocked her, she obliged and stepped down, lowering her wings slightly as a sign of submission.
"Thank you," Mandoria groaned, "now for the problem at hand, despite Prometheus's opinions on me, I think I will have to go with him. It's nothing against you, Esha, and if all else fails we can try your method, but I just feel like my situation needs divine help, and Prometheus is probably as close as I'm going to get in mortal form."
Esha scoffed at that but said nothing, Mandoria then added to the tailor, "But on that note, please do keep your opinions on me to yourself, I already feel useless as it is and that is just salt on the wound. Besides, I'm dying in a century anyway, so you won't have to deal with me anymore, but for the time that I am alive, just don't be so rude about it, ok?"
N: Prometheus nodded and he was about to speak when he heard curtains drawn. Vivian stood smirking as she had her ginger hair almost touching her shoulders, trying to imitate her brother.
"What do you think," she asked, walking towards Prometheus, poking at her new clothing, "I seriously don't understand how you live like this.
The tailor groaned as he answered, "I don't care and maybe I'm like this since I was punished for something I didn't even do." He turned to face her, "Now, a couple of rules. No random shifting into animals, that's not normal here. No obvious use of magic, you will be killed by the locals if you're not careful. Don't-"
"Yeah yeah, I know. Don't kill a human," she cut him off, "and don't change the course of nature. You've told me this. Every. Single. Time."
Prometheus rolled his eyes and turned his attention to Mandoria and Esha, "This is my sister, now finally presentable." Vivian gave a little wave at the Mandorian.
"Mandoria," the tailor continued, "you are to meet us at midday tomorrow so we can fix your wings. Julian, where is the best place for this to work?"
"In a cave of sorts," the young man answered, "there is one nearby."
"It may not be the safest of places," the tailor commented, "but if you send your new friend of yours to properly clear the place of Jacobites it could work."
Julian's face lit up and nodded, rushing out of the room to carry out the order.
M: "If you're going back there then you should take one of us with you," Esha said, no longer in a bitter tone, "the colony has been living there ever since the fall of the empire, we know that place better than anyone, not to mention there is a specific cavern there that was used for healing."
"That sounds fair," Mandoria said, "will you come then?"
Esha's face turned down, "No, I'm not worthy to go back, the only reason I did last time was because I thought the colony was in danger, even if I was far too late to save them. I recommend Odrus or Askad, they're the oldest out of all of us and know all the secrets of the caves. That is, if it's ok with you, Prometheus, I don't know how secret the operation is supposed to be."
N: "Nah, it's not a secret," Prometheus answered, "for me to work better, the deeper into the Earth, the better." He clasped his hands, "Well if that's it, then you better see to Julian and guide him then. I believe," he glanced at Vivian, who nodded in confirmation, "my sister has a couple of requests for the favor she will give, and that will be done in private."
M: The countries nodded and took their leave, Mandoria went to find his family to spend some time with them before he had to go, and Esha to find the two boys. After she did and explained what was going on, they agreed to help and the group tried to find Julian.
They eventually tracked him down and Esha called out to him, "Hey, Julian was it, while we were talking to Prometheus we decided that you guys needed some Eternal help, Oderus and Askad agreed to help out however they could."
"Hello Mr. Julian, it's nice to meet you," Askad greeted, holding out his hand for a shake, "I am Askad, current chief of the northern Eternal colony, or at least what's left of it. And this is Oderus." Oderus simply waved.
N: "Woah," Julian muttered as he shook Askad's hand, "more Eternals." Once he has gotten over his shock, he spoke, "Well it's nice to meet you both. We can use your help, both I and the person we are waiting for haven't explored this part of the world much so any help will be appreciated. We just have to wait."
The young man looked around him, waiting for his friend when galloping could be heard nearby. Soon, a horse with a person arrived, and as soon as the steed arrived, it reared onto its hind legs and the rider fell off, and was off as quickly as it arrived.
"Fick dich (Fuck you)," the person shouted at the horse before turning to the group. He had auburn hair, looked no more than twenty, and like Julian, wore dark shades, concealing his eyes. "This," Julian said as he got the person to his feet, "is a good friend of mine called Joey."
"My name is not Joey," the other grumbled as he dusted off his clothes, "the name's Josef." Josef turned to Julian, "And why did you call me? My head felt like it was going to explode."
"Simple," he tapped the ground and a staff grew out of it, to which Josef grabbed it, "Lord Prometheus is going to use the cave to heal a country and he wants you to make sure there are no Jacobites."
The redhead grumbled even more as he made the staff shrink into a sword, its blade glinting in the sun, "I was chilling in Spain, enjoying the sun, and now I have to kill some Brits. Gut dann (fine then)." He glanced at the Eternals, "Show me around."
M: "Sure thing, but just a heads up, the cave is a rather painful place for us so it would be nice if we get this done as quickly as possible," Askad said, "Esha, I assume you're staying."
"Yep, I'm not worthy of going back," the female eternal said, "don't worry, I'll watch over Neflen and Uskaine till you get back, and if you guys get in trouble don't be afraid to let me know."
"We will, see ya Eshie," Odruse smiled, then when she left he addressed the humans, "Before we go though, could you two lower your spirit shields please, I can see spirits so I'm blind otherwise. I think it's fascinating that a couple of humans managed to learn how to shield their spirits, normally only very advanced Eternals can do that."
N: "Shield my spirit," Josef questioned, and when he turned to Julian, the latter wasn't sure how to answer, so the former just shrugged, "I don't have the brain capacity to wrap around this hocus pocus. Let's just go." With that, the two young men entered, following after the Eternals.
As they went deeper into the cave, they heard the scurrying of feet and people shouting further down. Josef rose his sword, and as they turned the corner, they saw a Jacobite holding a large vat containing a yellowish substance.
"I'll throw this at you," the Jacobite yelled when Josef took a step forward, "it will kill you." Further down, someone ordered the men to hurry up, so the young man quickly judged whether to go.
"Carry me away if I get any of that on me," he told Julian before leaping into action. As promised, the Jacobite threw the vat, letting the poison smash and splash everywhere. The young man jumped onto a box and parkoured his way to the Jacobite, who quickly got his musket ready and soon the two of them fought.
Hearing the commotion, a couple more Jacobites were in the area, but they made sure they didn't get in contact with the venom. Further away, a lone masked man ran from one tunnel to another, and only briefly pausing to see what was happening, the sunflower visible only for a moment before he disappeared.
