THE sky was a dark, ‘vampire blue’—deep cerulean. It was #04355c in the color palette. The hooded person who walked on the side of the street called it a ‘vampire blue’ because this blueness of the sky reminded this creature the tint of the filter used in the first Twilight series movie.
This creature stopped in the middle of the road. On both sides of the road, rows of trees’ black shadows loomed over the creature, bent over like umbrellas. It was as if they were quiet accomplices who hides the creature with the gently swaying shadows of their leaves.
On the opposite end of the road, two motorcycles appeared. Their irritating roars ripped the silence apart with their custom exhausts that mimicked the sound of tearing up galvanized roofs before getting that sound to have an intercourse with coughing motorcycle tailpipes. The helmetless drivers and their passengers blended their hearty chuckles to the high-speed rhythm of their joyride. One of them had his girlfriend for a back ride, the other, his male friend.
The white beam from the headlights painted a line on the gray road. Yet, their high speed racing and the thickness of the shadows did not save them from their shock the moment the trees bent away from the road, revealing the creature.
This creature wore tight jeans, white high cut sneakers, and a black hoodie.
One of the motorists cursed. The other dropped their mouth open.
The female passenger kept slapping her boyfriend’s arm. She almost shrieked her plea to stop the motorcycle. The two young lads on the other motorcycle were quiet, still stunned. It took a while before its driver got back to his senses and squeezed the brake handles.
But before the motorcycles even halted, the hooded creature quickly pulled out its guns. Its head was slightly hung down as it stretched out its arms that each held one shiny, black gun. As soon as the beam from the headlights touched the tip of the creatures’ shoes, it immediately lifted its face.
In spite of looking up, the face of the creature was still so hard to make out. The hoodie over its head was too big, it kept its face darkly shadowed.
Yet, the hooded creature could see its targets clearly, very clearly.
It fired both of the guns it was holding at the same time.
The motorcycles tipped over, stood on their front wheels for a short second before one of the toppled to its side and the other smashed forward. The engines were rumbling lowly, the wheels were spinning quick, then slow, until they stopped.
Meanwhile, the motorists and their passengers tried to recover. The male passenger crawled on the ground. One of the motorists was trying to slip their way out from under the motorcycle and the other was still conscious, lying motionless on the ground that slowly seeped the blood from his head. The female passenger scampered, almost limping toward her motionless boyfriend.
The creature slowly walked to their direction. It gave one shot on the motorist's head and another bullet cut-off the girlfriend's voice in her mid-shriek.
The male passenger hurriedly dragged his legs to the opposite direction, only to be shot at the back of his head. As for the motorist pinned beneath his heavy motorcycle, he was spared by the creature from the bullet but not his precious motorcycle.
One bullet to the motorcycle's gas tank and it began bursting into flames, burning the trapped motorist alive before it exploded. The creature walked through the fire and shot the gas tank of the other motorcycle that resulted to flames and another explosion. The explosion was too big, the flames licked the ends of the trees that loomed overhead. Some flaming branches fell on the ground, on the dead bodies.
And from the distance, the creature nonchalantly walks away. At first, the shadows of the remaining branches and leaves of the trees concealed it. Then, the dark blue tint that came from the sky that kissed the horizon of the road where the creature seemed to be headed.
Then, the creature was already gone.
