Chapter 3: Welcome Back to the Minecraft Universe
(Ty's POV)
“My feet hurt,” Adam complained.
“Suck it up,” I told him. I would really have liked to be friends with this guy, but his complaints were getting old. I felt my gills expand and contract on the side of my neck, probably thinking I needed more oxygen—and they were right, but I just wasn't underwater. My legs and stomach were numb from all the walking.
“Where are we even going?” Adam asked.
“I don't know, just away from the ocean,” I said. Adam sighed but didn't answer, and I kind of agreed with him. I really didn't want to spend the rest of my life walking away from water. Maybe, eventually, if we got enough people, we could attack the squids, but with only two people that seemed extremely improbable.
“Hey, is that a farm?” Adam asked, pointing. I looked up. Sure enough, there was a farm, and a farmhouse to boot. Adam turned to me. “You know what a house means, right?”
“People,” I said. This could be the second place the squids targeted.
“Rest!” Adam said, running to the door. He pushed the door open and stepped inside. “Hello? Anybody here?”
“Adam, we're not theives!” I said, hurrying in after him. “You think you can just go barging into people's houses?” He turned around.
“There's nobody here,” he said.
“So why don't we leave and wait OUTSIDE for them?” I asked, trying not to sound angry.
“Because they're already here,” said a voice from behind me. I jumped and whipped around. A guy was standing in the doorway with dark brown hair and a shirt that read: I've got a pet pig, what you got? He had a bat perched on his shoulder and was looking at us with a half smile and half confused expression. “Name's Jason,” he said. “What are you doing here?”
“I'm Adam, and this is Ty,” Adam said. “And do you happen to have any food?”
“Um...”
“Sorry,” I said, shooting a glare at Adam. “Look, you're probably going to think I'm crazy, but if you don't leave soon squids might try to kidnap you for testing.” No way was I going to risk somebody EVER going through what I had to.
“Um...”
“Trust me, you will; they're trying to create a morphing ray that can turn humans into squids,” I said. I sounded unconvincing. Extremely unconvincing.
Jason smiled. “Sorry, but I don't believe that. Not that I'm going to deny it could happen, but frankly, squids just don't seem like the kind of creatures to want to be evil.”
“But Ty has proof!” Adam said. “If you look at his neck, he ha-” I clamped my hand over his mouth before he could finish the sentence. I had told him only to convince him; I didn't really want anybody else to know about it. I mentally shuddered as I thought about what could happen if people found out.
“What?” Jason asked.
“Nothing,” I told him. I looked Adam in the eye and shook my head. 'Don't' I mouthed.
Jason shrugged, sending the bat into the air, who landed on a bar hanging on the ceiling and flipped upside down, folding its wings around it. Adam looked up at it, and Jason said, “Oh, that's Dillon, my bat.” Adam nodded.
“Look, Jason,” I said. “Honestly, there are squids coming. The need a test subject for their experiments.”
Jason raised an eyebrow. “If they are coming, how do you know that?”
I felt like slapping myself. “I... it just makes sense,” I said lamely.
Jason shrugged again. “Well, I'll stay here if you don't mind,” he said, sitting down on a chair. “Do you guys need a place for the night?”
“YES,” Adam said. One night in the forest, and he already wanted to sleep in a bed again. Although... sleeping in a real bed WAS an inviting prospect...
“Sure,” Jason said, laughing. “It's getting dark,” he said, shutting the door and walking to the other end of the room. “The guest rooms are down that hallway,” he said. Adam nodded and darted down it, turning back after half a step.
“Wait, is there food?”
Jason nodded. “I like to keep my chests full of food in case I get hungry.” Adam nodded again and continued running down the hall.
Alone in the main room, Jason and I looked at each other. “You know you should really leave,” I told him, adjusting the collar of my shirt so that I was sure my gills were covered.
Jason gave my neck a quizzical look, like he was trying to figure out what was so special about it. “I'll only leave if I have to; this is my home, after all.”
A shout came from down the hall, “There's no meat in here!”
“I'm a vegetarian!” Jason yelled back.
“But you do have to,” I said. This guy was stubborn. “Squids are coming, I'm sure of it.”
Jason rolled his eyes. “Whatever. It's getting late; why don't we just go to bed?”
I gritted my teeth. “Fine,” I said, walking down the hall. I stopped outside the guest room. “Thanks, by the way,” I said, much more quietly.
“No problem,” Jason said, disappearing into what was probably his own room.
(Jason's POV)
I shook my head as I laid down on my bed, not even bothering to put on pajamas. Dillon flew in from a special bat-flap I had installed in the door, perching upside down on the bar I had hanging from the ceiling. I'd seen some crazy people before, but this guy was nuts. He thought squids were evil. I was a strong believer in Science Fiction, so I wasn't about to deny morphing technology, but animals wouldn't be evil. It just wouldn't happen.
I lifted up my hand to scratch Dillon behind his ears. He let out a soft bat squeak and hunched his wings so that they completely covered his body—a sign that he was satisfied. I smiled and started rubbing, wondering what the heck was with the one guy's-Ty, that was his name-neck. He seemed very protective of it for some reason. And Adam had said it was 'proof'. I stopped rubbing Dillon and pulled my hand down. He let out an annoyed squeak and flapped to the other end of the bar. I shrugged to myself. They were probably going to leave in the morning, anyways. No use getting myself involved in their 'quest' or whatever it was they were doing.
Hai everybdoy who is reading this! First off, I want to say that I'l be making a lot of inferences based on the character when I write this story. For example, in this chapter I made Jason a vegetarian because he wuvs Jeffrey and Dillon. <3
Also, gina_the_dragon has AMAZIN books and was nice enough to check out mah profile. Go follow her and read Skybrine! And scream at her for not updating it often enough! ^^ Lol jk, don't actually do that. I don't want her feelings hurt and then she would quit Wattpad.
If it's not too much to ask, I would like it if anybody who reads this to comment on it. It lets me know how many people actually bothered to look at this small fanfiction made by a psycho. .3.
