Challenge 17: What is your take on soulmates?
Here's a question: Were Jack and Rose of Titanic fame destined to meet? Rather like Romeo and Juliet, they come from different backgrounds, but are seemingly drawn to each other (But dying kinda ruins the fun). In fact, there are striking similarities between the two works, but let's not get into that.
Soulmates are, by definition, two people seemingly drawn to each other by some mysterious force or event that deems them to be in each other's lives. Personally, I don't think you have to be in love with someone to call them your soulmate. Your "soulmate", by your own personal observation or feeling, might be your twin, mother, or even a favourite friend or teacher (LMAO NOPE). It's a perfectly platonic term in my opinion.
I guess this theory of "soulmates" also depends on what you define as a soul, or even if you believe in the conventional form of a soul at all. (I realise this is sounding like one of those philosophy essays I used to write but oh well!) For most (if not all) religions, the soul is a vital and very real construct. So a relationship- centred soulmate would probably be important to someone who believed in the idea that God had planned someone for them.
But what about people who don't think they need a soulmate at all? People who are perfectly content living their lives without ever knowingly meeting that "one person" definitely exist.
Which brings me onto the point, how do you know you've met your soulmate? Speaking in a two- person romantic sense, many people fall in love more than once, does this then mean they can have a chance at having more than one?
Do I think that I've met my soulmate? I'm not entirely sure. Of course there's Ashley, who's my yin/ yang and everything I could ever want. He's my skinny little long haired prince haha. I envision a future with him and don't want anyone else. But whether that makes him my "soulmate" is another question entirely.
And one I am content with saying that I don't know the answer to.
