Chapter 2: Unwelcomed Visitor

King Mandoria immediately shielded his sons with his wings and flared them to make himself look bigger.  Mandara took shelter behind Derogan, who tried to mimic his father's stance by also flaring his wings, even though he was just as scared as his brother.

The new person, or rather empire, seemed unfazed at the family's hostility and spoke in a smooth yet cold voice that could make anyone shiver, "that was an excellent flight attempt, little prince, we believe thou would make a superb flier yet."

Mandara whimpered in fear and cowered further behind his brother, Mandoria growled at the newcomer and flared his wings out further, "What is thou doing trespassing in mine kingdom, Kingdom of Prussia!"  he demanded.

Prussia flicked his raven-black wings and placed a hand to his chest, "Dear me, we have never encountered such disrespect before, that is certainly no way to speak to a fellow winged king."  He flamboyantly declared.

"Thou art no king!" Mandoria spat, "Thee is but only a lowly tyrant and shalt be executed if thou will not state thy business!"

Prussia hummed to the threat, "to threaten the king of an empire ist quite bold of thee, nonetheless, thou hast nothing to fear for we have come but to talk, if thou wilst allow us."

Mandoria glared at the German as he contemplated if he wanted to hear what he had to say.  Mandoria had always been adversaries with Prussia, or more accurately, Prussia had been adversaries with Mandoria.  Ever since Prussia had come into power the young upstart had despised Mandoria for one reason only, Mandoria had larger wings.  In the winged community, the size of one's wings was a symbol of their stats, and the larger their wings the higher ranked they are.  At 14'2", Mandoria had the largest wings of any winged kingdom, country, or empire, with Prussia coming in a close second at 13'10".

After a minute more of internal conflict, Mandoria spoke to Derogan in Mandorian, "Gedn rotam yabzetr faht wem yit kagren vejas, quef lemi chax opsden avzet." (Take your brother and go back into the castle, I will join you later)

"Natin, quef urgim teda wevm opsden" (No, I want to stay with you)  Derogan protested, but Mandoria wasn't asking and ordered the kids to leave, so Derogan grumbled in his throat, grabbed Mandara by the wrist, and led him back to the castle, not looking back.

When his sons were a good distance away and Mandoria was sure they would be safe if things went south, he turned back to Prussia, he placed his hands behind his back but still retained his defensive demeanor, "Thou may now speak."

Prussia smiled in a devious manner, "we are grateful that thou is willing to listen, and we promise that thou's time shan't be wasted.  Now, the reason of our visit is we wish to inform thee that we desire to form an alliance with thee."

Mandoria tilted his head in confusion, the empire who has hated his guts for years just offered to ally with him.  Despite his confusion, Mandoria wasn't fooled, he knew that Prussia didn't want an alliance, he wanted the kingdom of Mandoria.

"Why would thou of all people wish to align themselves with us, and why would thou think we would agree to such an alliance?" The winged kingdom asked, he knew the answer but he wanted as much information as possible.

"Why would thou not wish to aline thyself with us?" Prussia responded, "We are the most powerful empire in all of Europe, perhaps in the world, but imagine how much more powerful mine empire would be if the King Wing were to join, we would be unstoppable."

Prussia walked closer to Mandoria, who tried to take a step back but the German had placed a hand on his shoulder, whether it was to stop him from moving or trying to act friendly Mandoria didn't know.

"Consider this an opportunity to secure your rule," Prussia said, dropping his royal voice for a moment, "No one would dare to challenge you while under my protection, and from one father to another, I know that you want a safe and secure future for your sons.  So what do you say?"

Prussia stepped back from Mandoria and held his hand out as if expecting the Mandorian king to shake it and accept the alliance.  Mandoria stared at the empire's hand, he admitted that he did like the idea that Mandara and Derogan would have a safe future, and if this is what an alliance with Prussia could bring then maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all.  The kingdom hesitantly extended his hand to shake with the German's.

He stopped.

Mandoria caught Prussia's gaze for a brief moment, but it was enough to see a flash of malice in his storm-gray eyes.  Mandoria retracted his hand, "I am afraid I have to decline, King Prussia.  The look in your eyes is telling me that you do not intend to protect me or my sons, and knowing your deceitful nature I was a fool to believe you."

Prussia's expression darkened in an instant, clearly angry of being accused of being deceitful, "you are a fool if you think that turning down this offer is a good idea, King Mandoria.  I am giving you the chance to be the most powerful kingdom of all time-"

"No, you are not," Mandoria interrupted, his feathers bristling, "you would never share power with anyone, I bet not even your own son.  Even if what you are saying is truthful, I do not wish to become the most powerful, I have everything I could ever want right here and I am not going to risk it all so you can become the most hated empire ever."

Prussia's eye twitched at Mandoria's words, a growl forming in his throat as he lost his patience for the other, "fine, if you're not with me, then you are against me, and those who are against me must be taken care of."

With that, Prussia unsheathed his twin sabers and squared off with Mandoria.  The older king staggered back in surprise, he was not expecting to fight anyone so he didn't have his longsword with him.  Mandoria desperately tried to think of a way out of this mess but Prussia charged.  The king raised his arms to shield his face and brace for impact, when none came he lowered them in time to see that Derogan had come back and jumped onto Prussia, covering his eyes.

"DEROGAN!!!" Mandoria screamed in surprise, fear, and anger.  Surprise that his eldest son was here, fear that he could get hurt, and anger that he disobeyed his father and didn't stay in the castle.

"Run Father!" Derogan shouted as he struggled to distract Prussia, but being thirteen-years-old he wasn't experienced in combat.  He yelped in pain as one of Prussia's sabers caught him in the left leg, which alerted Prussia to where the kid was so he grabbed the leg and threw Derogan off of him.  The young prince hit the ground hard and rolled a bit before coming to a stop, laying still as he was dazed from the impact.

Prussia turned back to Mandoria and was surprised to find the king pointing one of his sabers at him.  The German realized he had dropped the sword when he grabbed Derogan then cursed at his mistake.  Prussia raised his remaining sword to fight Mandoria but a group of knights had road up on horseback behind their king.

"Are you alright your Majesty?  Prince Derogan had alerted us of King Prussia's presence," one of the knights said.

"Did he now?" Prussia said before Mandoria could speak, "Well, it seems your son has planned ahead Mandoria," he stated, lowering his saber.  Mandoria did not turn to the knights, he kept his sword trained on the German.

"Kingdom of Prussia, thou has attempted to assassinate us and assaulted mine son, such crimes are punishable by death."  Mandoria declared, flaring his wings to their full span.

Prussia smiled smugly, "you wouldn't dare Kingdom of Mandoria."  Mandoria raised a brow but Prussia continued, "not only would killing me be declaring war on the Prussian Empire, but you would also be orphaning my poor innocent son, and as a father, I know you wouldn't do that."

Mandoria growled, the German had a point, "you're right Prussia, I'm not like you," the kingdom then threw the saber to his enemy's feet, "If we see thee in our territory ever again, we will have no choice but to execute thee, dost thou comprehend."

Prussia begrudgingly nodded and wordlessly picked up his sword and sheathed them both.  He then spread out his wings of pure darkness as he prepared to take flight.  "I will be back Mandoria, this isn't over," he warned, and with that, he took to the skies with one strong beat of his wings and flew away.

Mandoria immediately ran to Derogan, who was just starting to sit up and regain his bearings.  The king knelt down and examined the gash on his son's leg, it was very deep and bleeding profusely, so he tore off the sleeve of his shirt and tied it around the wound.

"I'm sorry Father, I was trying to help," Derogan said as he bit his lip to keep from crying.  He knew that his dad was angry, he did take Mandara into the castle like he was told, but he knew that things were going to go south so he told the knights and snuck back out to watch the two kings in a nearby tree, when he saw Prussia charge Mandoria is when he flew over to help.

"Derogan you could have been killed!"  Mandoria exclaimed angrily, "I told you to stay in the castle with your brother, why can't you just follow orders!"

"I-I was s-scared Father," Derogan cried, not holding back his tears anymore, "I d-don't want you to die t-too, I-I don't want to lose you l-like we lost m-mother."

Mandoria's gaze softened, he sighed, sat down, and pulled his crying son close, wrapping his arms and wings around him comfortingly, "I'm not going anywhere, my son, I love you and your brother too much to do that."

"I-I-I'm s-sorry, I'm s-so s-sorry," Derogan sobbed, Mandoria just hushed him and ran his hand through the kid's feathers.

"Shhh, it's ok Derogan, it's all over now, King Prussia is gone, we're safe now." The king reassured him, he then stood up with his child in his arms and he and the knights all headed back for the castle.

"Father"

"Yes my son?"

"Is King Prussia really going to come back?"

"... I don't know, but if he does, I swear on my wings I will protect you and your brother."

"And you won't leave us?"

"I won't, I promise."
