Chapter 7 - small steps
After I had eaten my breakfast (burnt toast and marmalade again) I noticed I was running late and had to sprint if I was to get there for 08:00!
I arrived out of breath and sweaty, though it was a cool spring day. I entered the practise room.
"Out of breath already Suga?" Jungkook teased.
"Don't call me that! We haven't debuted yet!" I laughed, still tired.
Our choreographer (whose name I couldn't remember) entered the room so I put my bag and coat at the side of the room and we got to work.
He told us he had chosen a popular K-Pop song with a relatively quick beat.
"So, who would you say is the strongest dancer in the room?" he asked.
We all looked at Hoseok. At the audition, he amazed us with some of the moves he came up with.
"You're Hoseok right?" he asked.
"Yes sir" he said.
"Show me your best move." He ordered.
Hoseok thought for a minute before bending over backwards, supporting himself on his left hand. He then switched to his right hand impressively, making us gasp. He then made himself stand upright. It looked so polished, though it was only one move. We applauded him and he blushed.
(For those of you who can't visualise this move, go check out "Boy meets Evil" By BTS. It is J-Hope's solo dance and he does the move at approximately 2:05.)

"wow that was a difficult move! I've only seen it completed successfully once before, performed by a professional K-Pop dancer!" the choreographer praised.
It was decided we would stand in a triangle, with Hoseok at the front, Taehyung and Jin in the middle and me with, Jimin Namjoon and Jungkook at the back. Then, our choreographer frowned.
"Damn! I forgot the music! How are you going to dance to something you can't hear? Has anyone heard the song before?"
I was the only one to raise my hand. It was actually one of the first pieces I learnt on the piano!
"Ah, Yoongi - could you sing it or something so we have something? There isn't even WiFi here so I can't get it on YouTube!"
I frowned, hating the idea of singing, then my eyes landed on the keyboard at the back of the room.
"I can't sing it - but I can play it on the piano?" I offered, walking over and examining the keyboard.
It was a little dusty, but switched on when I pressed the button.
"But what about the dance? You can't practise if you play!" Namjoon said.
"It's ok." I said. " I will work extra hard tomorrow. Come on - let's get going" I said, not letting them protest.
As I watched, I observed that Hoseok was definitely the fastest learner, successfully completing each move first time almost every time. Namjoon struggled the most, and it took him 3-4 attempts before he got it right.
I played slower at first, so they could make sure they were doing it right, then I increased the pace of the tune I played.
In a flash, it was lunchtime, and we all got our lunchboxes out and sat in the middle of the floor.
"So, Yoongi, how long have you been playing that piano?" Jin asked, biting into a cracker. "Your skills are impressive!"
"About 8 years I think." I said. "I started playing every now and then when I was twelve on my grandmother's piano. When she passed away, she gave the piano to me, and I almost saw it as my duty to learn for her. I never got lessons though - I am self-taught." I explained.
"Impressive." Hoseok smiled. "Jimin tried to download your audition song before he realised you wrote it! That shows you've got the talent!"
"What if you wrote songs for us?" Namjoon asked. "It would be so cool!"
"my skills are no WAY good enough for that!" I laughed. "I could try, but I don't know what will happen!"
We finished lunch and soon, practise was over.
"Hey! Yoongi-ah! Want to grab a coffee?" Taehyung called before I left.
"Do you ever stop eating or drinking?" I laughed. "Nah, sorry Taehyung. I'd better hurry home." I said.
"Ah, mummy nagging you to get home?" he teased.
"Yeah" I lied, faking a smile.
In truth, I lived alone. My mother split up with my father just after I was born, and I never saw him again. She died shortly after my grandmother - she committed suicide and I never found out why. I had a hunch though...
"I will let you go then." He laughed, jogging back to pick up his bag.
I walked slowly home.
