Prologue: Escape

The princess of the Night Tribe and the prince of the Electro Tribe raced through the blood stained lands. Why, why did it have to happen. Why couldn't their parents just take it into their hearts and accept this? Why did they have to start this war...?
"We need to get them out of here, Plasma. For the sake of this island, for them..." The princess plead, holding her newborn son close to her chest.
"I know, and we will. I have a friend at the docs, he's leaving today." The prince answered, holding his other two sons close to him as well. The princess nodded, and they ran. They ran and ran until the broken city around them was gone.

"Papa...?" The eldest son peeked out from under his father's arms. He looked just like his mother, completely black with streaks of red that ran down his spikes. The only difference between them was the white chestfur that was still growing to be even more whiter.
"Shadow...ssssshh..." The prince whispered to his son, holding up one finger to his lips. The young Night Tribesmen went silent, instead of sitting down and waiting to see what will happen next, he went over to his younger brother: a bright azure blue hedgehog with emerald eyes.
"Shadow..." His brother whimpered, tears at the edge of his eyes just waiting to fall off.
"It's okay...ssssh, Sonic. Everything will be fine." Shadow whispered comfortingly to his younger brother, rocking the azure hedgehog slightly.

"Bolt! You out here?" The prince called out. The bush in front of him rustled and stepped out a dark blue hedgehog with two white stripes that ran down his forehead.
"Look who decided to show up again." This hedgehog smirked rudely, his arms folded in front of his chest awaiting to see what the prince wanted from him.
"Bolt, please! For this island! For our home!" The prince yelled to this mysterious hedgehog, grabbing him by his shoulders.
"You ask for my help now? After you ran away from home just to be with that princess from the Night Tribe. I stood up for you, and our father gave me a scar that will never leave!" The hedgehog reminded the prince. That scar he was talking was still very visible, it was right across his right eye, still fresh.
"I'm sorry, Bolt. But please...the prophecy may be true..." The prince begged and fell to his knees, kneeling before this hedgehog who once was the eldest prince, his oldest brother. Bolt smirked.
"You may have given me a scar, but you are still my brother, Plasma. I'll take your sons, and I'll keep them safe." He said, lifting the prince off of his knees.

"Shadow, Sonic." The prince turned back, facing his two oldest sons. "You guys need to take Silver and get on the boat, okay? Don't look back, just look ahead."
"But what about you, daddy?" Sonic asked. His eyes were glistening with tears that were about to fall.
"I'll be fine, and so will mommy. We'll see each other soon." The prince answered, pushing his sons towards his brother. Shadow was worried, not just for his parents, but for himself and his brothers as well. He was barely three years old, how could he take care of his brothers?
His mother walked up to him hesitantly and very slowly, she handed her newborn to Shadow's open arms.
"Now, go!" She said sternly and Shadow, almost immediately, turned, grabbed Sonic by his wrist and ran as fast as he can right behind Bolt.

Shadow didn't stop, even with the smoke and ash and blood that was blowing against his face, he didn't stop.
"Shadow! Shadow, slow down!" Sonic yelled out, still being dragged by his older brother. Shadow realised this, and he stopped running entirely.
"What?" He asked, turning around to see that his little brother have fallen to the ground in exhaustion.

"Sonee..." The young newborn, Silver, whimpered reaching out for his older brother.
"I'm fine, Silv. Just tired." Sonic panted, his arms shaking and trembling while he did. Shadow watched in disarray, he really expected too much out of his one year old brother. Suddenly, the bushes began to rustle, but it wasn't the wind. Someone is here.
"Guys!" Shadow whispered strictly, pulling Sonic up onto his legs and into his arms.
"What's going on, Shads?" Sonic whispered worriedly as the bushes around rustled even more, louder and with the sound of a blowing horn.
"I don't know, but we need to get out of here." Shadow answered, glancing around. But he no longer wasted any time. "Chaos Control!"
Shadow, Sonic and Silver vanished.
They reappeared on a beach, and in front of them was Bolt who was rather mad.
"There you guys are! Get on the boat!" He yelled. Shadow didn't hesitate, he dragged Sonic to the boat that waited in the waves. He helped the blue hedgehog into the rocking vessel, handed Silver to him before getting on himself. As soon as Shadow was on the boat, Bolt untied the sail and they were off.

It felt like months, years even since Shadow got on the boat. Actually, it was only a few hours, but it felt so long. Everything is so long now that his parents are no longer with him and who knows what's going to happen to them. As a two year old, this is a very big change. Sonic was exhausted, so Shadow doesn't know why he haven't falling asleep yet.
"Sha..." Silver spoke in his newly acquired voice, reaching for his older brother who still held him close.
"What is it, Silver?" Shadow asked, turning his gaze from the night sky to the baby hedgehog in his arms. Silver started to hum a familiar tune.
"You want me to sing that?" Shadow inquired, shocked. Well, he did sing that with his mother just once, apparently Silver heard him.
"Okay, hey Sonic! Come in close, scooch in!" Shadow called out to Sonic. The blue hedgehog smiled and he moved closer despite the boat rocking back and forth. He made his way into his older brother's arm. Shadow smiled, took a deep breath in and began.

Where the wing blows,
With the sea.
There's an island,
Full of harmony.
Sleep, my darling, safe and sound.
For here we are, upon its lands.

Silver have closed his eyes and is already in a deep sleep, smiling as Shadow went on with the usual technique his mother had used to get Sonic to fall asleep, considering he is mostly super hyped up. The boat rocked back and forth like a crib, slowly drifting Sonic to sleep along with Shadow. It wasn't long Sonic was in a peaceful sleep. Shadow stared up silently into the sky, watching the stars slowly drift across the sky. He managed to catch a shooting star zap across the dark blue sky and he wished for one thing.
"I hope we'll be back...one day." And with that, his eye lids slowly started to drop down and before he knew it, Shadow was asleep.
