Chapter 1: Somethings never change
Fourteen Years later...
Location: Bloodshed
"Did you see what Lieutenant Shadow did?!" A soldier remarked as he moved down the hallway with a few of his buddies, Shadow included.
"We were all there, Maddox, we saw what Shadow did." Another soldier reminded this soldier who was always overly excited.
"I know! But still, it was so hard to believe! Lieutenant was like, "Get down!" and he got up and shoots three times and three bull-eyes!"
Shadow is so sick of Maddox, sure he may be the first lieutenant of G.U.N at the age of sixteen, but is it really that surprising. Or, is Shadow just being edgy again?
"I was just doing my job..." Shadow groaned, casting a glare to Maddox with gritted teeth.
"But you were still so cool!" Maddox exclaimed, but this time, Shadow just rolled his eyes and walked off while the soldier told everyone about what he did. Wow, he is so surprising.
"I bet that blue hedgehog from Mobius wouldn't be able to pull off anything Shadow could do." Shadow caught some whispers from two lower class privates rambling. All the time, soldiers on this island would always remark that a certain blue hedgehog would never survive here, or even have the courage to come here. That blue hedgehog's name is Sonic.
Why does that name sound familiar somehow...? Where else have I heard it? Shadow wondered. Every time when someone whispers about Sonic, images would always flash behind Shadow's eyes. Some memories that he has long forgotten, that was what Shadow always had assumed, but no, they only show up when Sonic was mentioned.
"I'll need to get to the bottom of this...soon."
Location: Cosmos
Silver stared at his wooden figures in his workshop. He had some time to spare, but then, there really wasn't anything to do. Or rather, he was torn. He wanted to hang around with his soon-to-be wife, Blaze, but then, he also wanted to listen to that voice in his head singing to him. It is a bit muffled, but it sounded familiar. He could hear it now, that voice.
Where the wing blows, with the sea. There's an island, full of harmony...
Oh boy, that voice. Who was it, why does it sound familiar. Maybe that voice belonged to one of his wooden figures. Wait, what? Oh yeah, Silver always had that theory. He had made these wooden carvings off of some images in his head. Four hedgehogs, to be exact. Honestly, Silver always had a thought that one of these hedgehogs in his head had sang to him, considering that song was in his head too.
"Who are you guys? Where are you guys?" He asked, holding one of his wooden figures, the hedgehog with his spikes turned down. Strange, don't all hedgehogs look like Silver?
Well, he guessed not. Silver hasn't really been off the island, he was needed here. Everyone here depended on his powers, he is the most trusted mage of Cosmos. His powers were extraordinary, they had the ability to levitate anything, they can create shadows and light, they can raise the sun and moon (even though Silver had never been allowed to do that), they can create storms, light, blizzards, you name it!
Heck, they can even wake anyone from a deep coma. That's probably why Silver had the power of life and death in his hands, wow, everyone loves him, just for his powers. But there is only one who loved him for his heart.
"Hey there, honey." A female voice spoke in a way that almost sounded flirty. This woman wrapped her placed her arms on Silver's shoulders.
"Hey there, my kitty." Silver flirted, placing his hand on the female's cheek. Turning around, he saw his fiancée, a violet cat by the name of Blaze. She wasn't just an ordinary kitten living with a good family on this wealthy island, no, she was this island's princess to be crowned queen when she has come of age.
"Thinking about your wooden carvings again, Silv?" She asked, watching Silver play with his carvings.
"I know I'm like a kid this way, but they really bother me." Silver answered with a sigh. These hedgehogs really gets him on his nerves sometimes.
"Hey! Let's go out! I'm sure you're free right now, right?" Blaze suggested. "After all, tonight is the Harvest Festival."
Silver looked at his desk, seeing that he had nothing on it and it was as clean as air, he smiled. It wouldn't hurt to leave his workshop for a few hours, would it?
"Let's go and get ready." He said, before he stood up and headed out of his workshop. He slammed the door behind him and it locked.
Silver walked down the lane with Blaze's hand in his. The wind blew softly against his spikes and he decided to excite things up a bit. It has been fourteen years and nothing has changed, so it's safe to go ahead.
"Yes, the wing blows a little bit colder, and we're all getting older. And the clouds are moving on with every Autumn Breeze." He said, using his mage powers, he sped up the wind which blew around them. Blaze was enjoying herself, sure Silver was a showoff, but she loved him. Truly.
"Peter pumpkin just became fertiliser..." She pointed out as they walked past one of the harvest fields of Cosmos. When the both of them were little, there was always that scarecrow that lingered in their little minds. Peter, a scarecrow with a pumpkin as a head and with old, second-handed farmer clothing. Too bad that scarecrow was pulled down today, but all things must come to an end.
"And the leaves are sadder and wiser." Blaze sighed as an Autumn leaf flew by. Silver didn't care, this was all part of life, and something he will make sure that will stay the same.
"But that's why I rely on certain centainties." He reminded his soon-to-be wife and he took her down the streets of Cosmos.
"Somethings never change, like the feel of your hand in mine. Somethings stay the same, like how we get along just fine..." Silver said as they went down the bustling streets, passing by some construction, a painter whose tree got cut down by a lumberman which resulted in their fight, which also lead to Silver and Blaze to walk pass them in an awkward manner. Blaze chuckled once they were out of the fight and quite someways out of the city as well. She came by a stone wall, covered with moss. It was pretty old.
"Like an old stone wall, that will never fall..." She mused, climbing onto this wall and skipped her way across it. However when she reached the last brick, it fell off but luckily, Silver was right there in front of her, catching her bridal-style when she came plummeting down.
"Somethings are always true!" Blaze laughed cheerfully in Silver's arms. He was her true love and that will never change.
"Somethings never change, like how I'm holding on tight to you." Silver smiled. He gave Blaze a kiss on her forehead, but unbeknown to him, millions of miles away stands another hedgehog who will be engaging today...
Location: Mobius
Sonic walked down the streets of Mobius in a relieved, yet nervous way. Rouge was with him for god knows what. Oh, wait, he's going to engage to Amy tonight...
"The leaves are already falling, Rouge it feels like the future is calling..." He began to muse, but Rouge took this to another level.
"Are you telling me tonight you're gonna get down on one knee?" She asked, flirty as always, but she did pull him down to his knees. Man, this is awkward.
"But, I'm really bad at planning these things out...like candlelight and pulling of rings out..." He reminded the flirty bat as they sat down on a nearby bench. Sonic reached into his little bag and pulled out a golden ring, only for it to slip out off his hands the second he got it. Rouge caught it, but as always, she wasn't going to give it back so soon.
"Maybe you should leave all the romantic stuff to me." She flirted again, slipping the ring onto her finger. Sonic could only cringe.
"Yes, somethings never change, like the love that I feel for her. Somethings stay the same, like how girls have always been easier..." Sonic said miserably as he walked down the streets with Rouge. She had insisted that he get something pretty and make himself presentable tonight, which is something Sonic would not be doing out of the norm.
"But if I commit and I go for it, I'll know what to say and do! Right?" He asked Rouge as soon as they picked him a good looking tie, paid for it and they are now standing outside the shop.
"Somethings never change, man the pressure is all on you." Rouge answered, then she turned to her left and saw none other than Amy herself. Sonic immediately took off and ran over to Amy, picking her up bridal style and gave her a kiss. Rouge laughed as she followed them close behind. Man, this will be fun to watch.
Location: Bloodshed
Shadow walked silently on the roof. These images in his head, when they show up, something else shows up with it. Him, Shadow the Hedgehog, singing. But, that's ridiculous, he doesn't sing! Well, at least, not to anyone else.
"The winds are restless, could that be why I'm seeing these things? Is something coming? I'm not sure I want things to change at all. These days are precious, can't let them slip away..." He sighed, staring down at the soldiers. They all are having their fun, now usually, Shadow wouldn't just jump off the roof and join in with them, but this time, it felt so right to do that. He ran to the edge and leapt off the roof, landing in front of the soldiers, giving them the shock of their lives. Shadow looked up with a smirk.
"I can't freeze this moment..." He told, standing up with that smug look on his face. "But I could still go out and seize this day!"
Location: All Islands
Unbeknown to everyone, they were all singing in perfect sync.
Somethings never change,
Turn around in the time that's flown.
Some things stay the same,
Though the future remains unknown.
May our good luck last, may our past be past.
Time's moving fast, it's true...
Somethings never change...
And I'm holding on tight to you...
The three hedgehogs headed back to their homes with a smile on their faces. All of their friends went in before them, leaving themselves outside the door with a warm heart, knowing that things will never change. Despite themselves not even knowing each other, they sang together even though they are miles across the sea.
I'm holding on tight to you...
