Chapter 7
Shubman was sprawled comfortably on the couch, enjoying a rare moment of relaxation after a grueling practice session. The front door swung open, and Sara and Aditi walked in, both carrying shopping bags.
"Hey, Shubman!" Sara called out, her voice cheerful.
Shubman looked up, startled to see Aditi for the first time. "Oh, hey Sara. And... hi. I don't think we've met."
Aditi turned towards him, her face lighting up with a warm smile. "Hi, I'm Aditi. Nice to meet you, Shubman."
Shubman stood up, extending his hand. "Nice to meet you too, Aditi. How was the shopping?"
"It was great!" Aditi replied, shaking his hand. "We found some really good deals."
As Aditi spoke, Ishan, who had been sitting quietly in the living room, glanced up and his eyes widened slightly. He couldn't take his eyes off Aditi, clearly taken by her appearance. She had a certain charm and grace that caught his attention.
Shubman noticed Ishan's gaze and smirked slightly. "Ishan, this is Aditi, Sara's best friend. Aditi, this is Ishan Kishan."
Aditi's eyes met Ishan's, and she offered a friendly smile. "Nice to meet you, Ishan."
Ishan stood up, his usual composure slightly faltering. "Nice to meet you too, Aditi. I... um, heard a lot about you."
Sara raised an eyebrow, noticing the change in Ishan's demeanor. "Looks like someone's got their attention caught."
Ishan cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."
Shubman chuckled softly. "Well, it seems like you've made quite an impression, Aditi."
Aditi laughed, a hint of pink coloring her cheeks. "I think it's just the effect of a long day of shopping and new faces."
Sara grinned. "Looks like today just got a little more interesting."
As the group settled in, Shubman and Sara began catching up on their day, while Ishan and Aditi exchanged glances, a new and unexpected connection forming in the room.
After the introductions, Shubman and Sara moved to the living room to unpack their shopping bags. Aditi and Ishan, both feeling a bit awkward but intrigued, found themselves in the kitchen, where Aditi was searching for something to drink.
"So, Aditi," Ishan started, trying to sound casual, "how do you know Sara?"
Aditi smiled as she rummaged through the cupboard for glasses. "We've been best friends for years. We met in college and just clicked. And you?"
"I've known Sara and Shubman for a while now," Ishan said, leaning against the counter. "I play cricket with Shubman. It's been nice getting to know him and his friends better."
Aditi poured two glasses of juice and handed one to Ishan. "That's cool. Cricket must be pretty intense."
"It is," Ishan agreed, taking a sip. "But it's also a lot of fun. Keeps us on our toes."
Aditi took a sip of her juice and looked at him with genuine interest. "What do you do when you're not playing cricket?"
Ishan thought for a moment, enjoying the easy conversation. "I like to relax and hang out with friends. I also enjoy cooking when I get the chance."
"Cooking, huh? I never would have guessed," Aditi said with a playful smile. "I'll have to see if you're any good."
Ishan chuckled. "I'd be happy to cook something for you sometime. Maybe we could have a little cook-off."
Aditi's eyes twinkled with amusement. "Challenge accepted. But be warned, I'm pretty good myself."
As they chatted, Aditi found herself enjoying Ishan's company more than she expected. The conversation flowed easily, and she couldn't help but notice how genuinely kind and down-to-earth Ishan was.
Meanwhile, Ishan felt a growing sense of comfort around Aditi. Her laughter was infectious, and her easygoing nature made him forget, if only for a moment, the troubles he'd been facing.
"Hey, what's that smell?" Aditi suddenly asked, sniffing the air.
"Oh, that's just some leftovers from earlier," Ishan said, looking at the pot on the stove. "Do you want to try some?"
Aditi nodded eagerly. "Sure, I'd love to."
As they moved to the stove, Ishan served some of the food into a couple of bowls. They continued chatting as they ate, the initial awkwardness melting away. The kitchen, with its familiar warmth and simple comforts, provided the perfect backdrop for their growing connection.
When Shubman and Sara came into the kitchen, they found Ishan and Aditi deep in conversation, laughing over a shared joke. Shubman exchanged a knowing look with Sara, who raised an eyebrow in response.
"Looks like you two are having a good time," Shubman remarked as he joined them.
Aditi grinned, holding up her bowl. "Ishan's cooking is actually pretty good. Who knew?"
Shubman chuckled. "I'm glad you're enjoying it."
As the evening continued, the camaraderie between Ishan and Aditi only grew. Their shared laughter and easy conversation added a new and pleasant dynamic to the group, making the night feel warmer and more connected than ever.
As the evening wore on, the atmosphere in Shubman's home grew more relaxed and cheerful. With dinner done, the four friends decided to spend some quality time together.
Shubman suggested they play some board games. "I've got a few games stashed away. How about we have a little friendly competition?"
Sara's eyes lit up. "Sounds great! I love board games. Aditi, do you have any favorites?"
Aditi shrugged with a grin. "I'm pretty flexible, but I'm game for anything."
Ishan chimed in, "I'm up for it too. Just don't expect me to go easy on you."
As they gathered around the coffee table with snacks and drinks, Shubman pulled out a classic game of Scrabble. The group settled into comfortable positions on the floor, and the game began.
Sara, with her usual competitive spirit, immediately began strategizing. "Watch out, everyone. I'm about to score big."
Aditi laughed. "Bring it on, Sara. I've been known to make some impressive words myself."
Ishan, who was more relaxed about winning, was enjoying the camaraderie. "I'm just here to have fun and maybe learn a few new words."
Shubman, taking a more laid-back approach, added, "I'll just try not to get too competitive."
As the game progressed, the room was filled with laughter and playful banter. Aditi and Ishan's earlier conversation seemed to have broken the ice, and the group's interactions were easy and natural.
At one point, Sara looked over at Ishan and Aditi, who were engaged in a friendly rivalry over word placement. "I think Aditi might be winning this round."
Ishan grinned. "She's definitely giving me a run for my money. But I'm not giving up just yet."
Aditi winked at him. "You've got some stiff competition, Ishan."
The evening continued with several rounds of different games, each one bringing out more laughter and joy. Sara and Shubman played host, making sure everyone had enough snacks and drinks, while Ishan and Aditi showcased their competitive yet friendly nature.
As the night deepened, they decided to wind down with a movie. Shubman picked a film that everyone had been wanting to see, and they all settled in the living room, cozy on the couch with blankets and cushions.
The movie played on, but the conversations continued. Ishan and Aditi sat close, sharing quiet comments and laughter. Shubman and Sara, nestled comfortably together, exchanged knowing glances, happy to see their friends enjoying each other's company.
By the end of the movie, the group was relaxed and content. Aditi stretched and yawned. "That was a lot of fun. I'm really glad I came over tonight."
Ishan nodded in agreement. "Me too. It's been a good distraction from everything."
Sara smiled. "I'm glad you both could join us. It's nice to have a full house and good company."
Shubman, feeling satisfied with the evening, added, "Let's do this again sometime. It's been great having everyone here."
As the night drew to a close, the friends said their goodbyes, knowing that their bonds had grown stronger. The warmth and connection they shared that evening would linger long after they had all gone their separate ways, leaving behind a sense of contentment and anticipation for the next time they would all come together.
