chapter 44 | something more
As soon as he leaves my side, enemies come flocking in like they were waiting for him to slip up. A few steps backward triggered him to growl at me. He stalked me while I expected his next move. What is it? A werewolf? Dire wolf? It seems there is no trace of a human in him, just an untamed wild beast. Is it even from this time? I peep a glance at my surroundings spotting a scalpel lying free on the table. I stretched for it, checking my rear to catch him when he pounced on me.
I pray I can keep it in my hand while it shakes. His intense growl shifts through the room, sensing him shooting a bullet in my way. The teething snout was already in my face, but a strong wind knocked him left, watching it smash the glass into shattering pieces. That is some power. I just knew it was Bora, but Cage stood before me with a slight chippy grin on his lip.
"It is truly a glorious day." He tries to intimidate me, steeping to my face. "Oh, what a gift." His scratchy knuckles brush against my cheek, catching my strands. I roared in a swing, but he caught my arm, and twirled me already behind, lifting my chin. "Do you know how upset he will be when he sees my hands all over you?" His nose pushed through my hair, sniffing my scalp. I bent my elbow, throwing it back right into his kidney. He folded with a coughing grunt as I kicked him in the opposite direction and took off, sprinting to the exit.
He was on me in no time. How did he recover that fast? "BORA!" I screamed for him.
"How disappointing. I was hoping it was going to be my name!" He slashed at my back, but I dodged it, rolling to the floor.
"You are gross." I rolled under the medical table like that would stop him. He got me. I acknowledged defeat while he flipped the board from over me, picking me up by my neck.
"Little deer, little deer. Where's your boyfriend now?"
"He's my mate."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "You accepted the way of the wolf, have you? Interesting. Before I wipe you off the face of this earth, I want to have some fun. Show you off to him." He brought me to his nose. "Then take your life in front of him."
We ended up in the main lobby, viewing them from the 2nd floor. Bora and the rest of the crew looked up at us. The anguish in his eyes and the gritted teeth bear sorrow to my heart. "I am okay. He hasn't hurt me."
"That's right I haven't." He grips my neck, sniffing up my cheek. "Yet"
My mate swiftly puts a foot forward, charging, but Cage squeezes as the pain shoots through my body. Feeling him close to crushing it had me screaming out in agony. He halted with fear in his eyes. "Come on, she is very obvious to execute. Are you sure you want to harm me?"
"Oh, I want to do so much more." Bora scrunched his nose.
Electric pops crackled through the air. "Hey! Let go of my sister, jackass!"
"See now, if I do that, that will make it too eazy. Me myself, I love a challenge." The automatic doors from a side room slid open as John strolled out and in his hands was a small amniotic-filled incubator with the fetus.
"Don't hurt my daughter." My father warned him. "You are free to do whatever to the rest, but leave her be."
"What about me?" Quinn pointed to his chest.
Malinda, Adam, and Xannon ran in. "That's why we weren't able to track him. Because of you!" Xan extended his finger at Cage.
"But of course. Do you think I will not protect the one who creates life?"
"John, tell him to let me go!" I fought with my father.
"John?" The disappointment on his face made me want to slap it off because I would never call him dad again. "You break my heart, Gemma." He gave a distorted smile, staring at the pickled jar of a werewolf fetus. "We can rebuild new things and make something great for my research." A whipping wind from above with a heavily inserted pew, I searched up, looking at two anchor hooks that penetrated through the glass. It snatched it from the brim, having it shatter to the floor as my crew ducked for cover, hearing the chopper blades whistle dropping to an extent. "Sorry, but you are coming with us."
"You're insane! I will never affiliate myself with you!" Cage cuffed my waist, leaping from the balcony onto the ladder as my dad followed suit. I fought, wailing out to him again.
In the blink of an eye, my white wolf coursed through the chunks of glass with those iron leather paws jumping on. "Gemma!" He climbed to reach me using every fiber I could see, but it was too late. They dropped it as we were a hundredth foot in the air, watching him grow tiny within the distance. "Bora!" I reached for freedom, but Cage folded my arm, shoving me to the hardware floor. The force slid me into a metal leg, popping my shoulder out of place. I embraced it with my capable limb, clenching my teeth at the pain's mercy. I have felt nothing similar to this, one flinch and the numbness sharpened that had me limp in a fetal position.
He doesn't buy back. Whatever mood tickles his violent outburst is what he rolls with. "Get up." In his ice-biting tone, he controlled. I want to, out of fear, but my body isn't used to this type of affliction. He grunted and yanked me up by the one injured arm, tossing me in a chair. Jesus, I hold it together to not trigger the throb anymore. I think he dislocated it. I can't move it but the pain, my God, the pain.
"Be easy with her." A brave feminine voice spoke up for me. I glanced toward the soft-spoken person who dared to push back his actions. It was the girl in the room.
"You must want me to inflict misery on you, too." With haste, she lowered her head, not making eye contact.
My father helped me sit up, careful with how he handled my arm. I overtake to snatch it away, but my injury needs attention. "That's too far." John eyed him, pissed. "If I am working with you, then treat my family as your own."
Cage got in his face. "Or what?"
He pushed up his glasses, standing up. "Or you have no one to grow your own. But I guess you can find someone else to do it. Good luck with that." with a smirk, he sat again to tend to my arm. "This is going to hurt." He looks at me.
"What is?" He stuffed a thick cloth in my mouth, yet I was still confused and he popped my shoulder back in place. I nearly died, groaning for the end to come because why would he do me like that? I fell face-first into the seat, sucking up the slobber, waiting out the pain. "When Bora finds me, I am advising him to assassinate both of you," I assured them of this.
"Funny you think he can."
"Why else are you running from him?" I turned my lip up.
"Not running. Your mate is a fly on the wall. I have bigger fish to fry. After I achieve all that I have worked hard for, I will get rid of both of you because I simply cannot stand the thought of you two bringing more children into the world. I can't have him revive his legacy." Then his head tilted. "Or maybe you can be the woman to rebuild my legacy. What do you think, doc? That should grind his bones." He gazed at my father with a slick, disgusting smile.
"We'll discuss the details later."
My eyes bucked open. "Dad!" I clamored out the last line of defense.
He chuckles, seeing the city reflect off his glasses. "Oh, now I'm dad. Don't worry Gemma, everything will be for the greater good. Think of yourself as Eve."
"Eve?" My gut turns.
Cage blew steam and had me at attention. "Yes. The mother of all my creation." He grins evilly, throwing his arm around the girl, squeezing in. Cage admitted, "The world will remember you both as the greatest women alive."
I hate this guy. My gaze fixed on my father to see his reaction, but he was indifferent, dead in the face and quiet. How did he get like this? And my mom. She is the only person I believe who feels remorse. Maybe I should call her. I feel saddened that I haven't seen her in a while. The memories of sitting around the breakfast table, laughing, and getting into innocent mischief are nothing more than a distant memory and how far from home we are. To have that all taken away. I think this is bigger than two rivals going to war.
Please, Bora. Find me soon.
