In a universe so large,
In a world so cold and warm at the same time,
I watch the diamonds burn in the sky.

The stars you cannot see,
But I imagine themselves perfectly in my mind.
Back in Cuba, I learned to love my freedom and the stars.
I learned to love to read with these twinkling hearlds of the skies in my eyes.

The one thing that keeps me grounded when I tried to get over you twenty years ago.
The fairies that are frozen in the black velvet above me.

They light my way to an imaginary temple.
They light my way to guidance.
They light my way to success and ruin.

These stars are the loneliest things I have ever seen.
They watched billions of eons of the earth and seen it change.

I hear when they weap for the those who have nothing.
I hear them weap for all the star-crossed lovers.
I hear them argue with the deities of earth.

I watch these magnificent Elves dance across the marble.
I watch their battles overhead as if it was the most interesting movie of all.
The heroic feats are done and no one can scibble it down.

These stars leave a legacy that I wish I knew.
A legacy I wish I knew before they burned to ash.
Before they burned to ash and exploded in a million years....

I hear someone coming.
They stand by and put their arm around me.
He says,
"Ella it is time for bed now.
Come in before you freeze."

I follow him into the house.
Too tired and all worn out.
I see the stars from my window,
And they seem brighter now than ever before....

Because they burned with light for my family...
And I am okay with that.
I just hope they burn for you....
