Omegaverse
And angst
Katsuki lay quietly, contentedly thinking about his family. Quietly basking in just how much he loved them all.
Izuku is the love of his life. He's so, so lucky that the Omega had forgiven him and gave Katsuki a chance to court him. He so lucky the Omega wanted to mate with him, and even luckier Izuku wanted pups with him. Katsuki is such a lucky Alpha, his Omegan mate being the number one hero in all of Japan.
However, the Omega was currently the luckiest. Izuku still has a little over a month of maternity leave left to spend with their pups at home. Katsuki hasn't had a full day with them in weeks. He just wanted to cradle his pups and mate close.
Tadaaki was their first pup. He is currently three-and-a-half years old. He's such a smart pup and he's loving being an older brother. He's so energetic and his basically a carbon copy of his sire. Blond hair, vibrant crimson eyes, fair skin. God, Katsuki loves him.
Then his beautiful daughter, Hana. Hana is such a lovely, quiet pup. She looked exactly like Izuku with her curly green hair and stormy green eyes. She already had the beginnings of freckles on her cheeks. She was such a daddy's girl, too. Hana's favorite napping place was Katsuki's chest. She'd curl right up, ear to his chest as he purred and rubbed her back.
Both his pups were amazing. Both strong, Alpha pups. His poor mate, surrounded by Alphas. Izuku didn't seem to mind, though. He adored their pups no matter what.
And, God... Izuku was such a perfect Dam. He always seemed to know exactly what their pups wanted. Hana only cried and Tadaaki still wasn't making any kind of sense with the words he did speak. When he wasn't pregnant with Hana, or recovering feom her birth, he'd get down on the floor and roughouse with their son. Tadaaki loved playfighting with Izuku and struggled to understand why his Dam couldn't while eight months pregnant with his little sister. He's much happier now that Izuku is nearly completely healed and plays with him again like he used to. Izuku knows their pups like the back of his hand and would go to the moon and back for them. He knows which toy is Hana's favorite. He knows which songs to sing to get Tadaaki sleepy. He knows what they like to eat and when Tadaaki needs to run around outside. He knows exactly how Hana likes to be swaddled and he knew just what to do when she had come down with a fever.
Katsuki had freaked out that day. He had picked up his little two-month-old in the middle of the night as she cried. One touch and he knew something was very wrong. Izuku swept in as Katsuki panicked, taking care of their daughter with ease. Katsuki was so jealous, but so proud.
He also couldn't wait for Izuku to return to work. He truly missed fighting crime with his mate. That was something they always shared, even when Katsuki pretended to hate him. They always fought side-by-side. Everything was tackled together.
However, Katsuki was only allowed one month of paternity leave for both his pups. Izuku - the lucky bastard - got the entirety of his pregnancies and the first six months of both their pup's lives. Izuku got a little stir crazy the first few weeks when bedbound, but now, both pup have been keeping him on his toes. Especially little rambunctious Tadaaki.
Soon, though. Just a little over a month and they'll be working together again.
God, he sounds like a sentimental moron...
He shouldn't even be thinking about his family right now. He's supposed to be on the job.
Maybe he's sentimental and thinking about them so much because he's dying.
Is he dying?
Feels kinda like it, but he's never really died before, so he's not super sure.
"Baku-... Bakugou! Hey-..."
A familiar voice faded in and out as he was slowly lulled out of his subconscious.
"There!" The voice was clearer now and he finally recognized them as he cracked open his tired eyes and saw so much red.
"Kir-," His voice cracked as he tried to speak and he cut off with a low groan.
"Hey, hey. Don't talk, man..." Eijirou patted his face. "I just need you awake, okay?"
Katsuki's breathing was ragged and rough. He didn't feel like he was a part of his own body anymore. Everything felt... Distant, if that makes sense.
Like, he could feel something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what. He doesn't even remember exactly what happened or why it looked like he and Eijirou were in a cave.
"Iz... Izuku," he rasped, trying to push himself up.
"Uh-uh!" Katsuki huffed as he was pushed back down. "You need to stay down, man! I don't know how bad the injury is!"
The blond blinked a couple times, very slowly. Injured? He turned his head to look down.
He doesn't see any injuries. Sure, he's a bit scraped up and definitely covered in soot and dirt. Oh, maybe it has something to do with the slowly darkening cloth Eijirou was pressing into his abdomen.
"Izuku is okay, man..."
Katsuki looked back up to his best friend, feeling tired again. "Pups..?"
"They're okay. They're home safe with Izuku. Ingenium and Shouto left to check on them. Ingenium radioed back not too long ago that they're okay."
Katsuki wheezed as he breathed deeply, and he could feel the ache in his lungs. The wound on his abdomen became apparent the more lucid he became. "Home... Home, Eij..."
Eijirou breathed deeply, petting Katsuki's hair back out of his face and winced at the bleeding wound on his forehead. "I can't take you home. We have to wait for the paramedics."
The blond panted softly, brows drawn together. He felt so hot, but so cold at the same time. He swallowed hard, but his mouth was dry. "Tired..."
"I know. I know, man, but you need to stay awake, okay..?"
His vision was blurring again, Eijirou becoming a blob. Eijirou's speech was hazy and near-incoherent.
The pain he had begun to feel was becoming distant again and he didn't realize his cheek was being patted or his shoulder carefully shaken. He felt it, almost, but just didn't realize.
"Katsuki!"
He gasped and jerked as everything suddenly sharpened into focus. Katsuki grit his teeth, clutching at the hand pressing hard on his abdomen.
"Stay awake!"
Katsuki panted heavily, arms shaking. "F-fuck," he hissed, dropping his head back on the concrete. He was far too exhausted to create any kind of useful explosion to get Eijirou's hand off his throbbing abdomen.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, I know it hurts, but you have to stay awake..." Eijirou swallowed hard, tears in his eyes.
The Alpha whimpered as his friend pressed harder, sharp shocks of pain bursting with each pump of his heart. God, it hurt.
Maybe it would be better if Izuku was here.
"Izuku..."
"He's safe, I told you. He's alright, no one went to your home."
Katsuki gulped, squeezing Eijirou's arm. "Need... Need him, Eij..."
The redhead sighed, back to petting Katsuki's hair. "I know. Soon. We need to get you to the hospital. Please, please, stay awake, Bakugou..." Eijirou was begging, tears dropping from his cheek bones, jaw, and the tip of his nose, as well as making tracks in the dirt and soot on his face.
The Alpha grit his teeth as the pressure on his wound shifted.
"I can hear them coming! Just hold on, man!"
Katsuki's breaths shuddered, eyelids fluttering. He couldn't see straight, the corners of his sight darkened. What he could see faded in amd out, so blurry.
One moment he was on the ground, next he's on a gurney. Pressure is still applied to his wound. That cloth is completely red now.
Everything is sore, but dull. He's so tired.
Voices were so far off, even if he could see the person speaking right beside him.
Finally, he was in an ambulance, first responders hooking him to an I.V. drip, tearing open his uniform. He grunted and strained as his wound was irritated by all the sudden movement. Katsuki hissed as they tried cleaning the terrible wound.
"Hey, hey!"
His face was grabbed and it took a few momenta to focus on the face of his friend.
Eijirou's eyes were still so full of tears. "Focus on me, bud. You're gonna make it... You'll see Izuku and the pups again..."
Katsuki panted, blinking a few times in an attempt to stay awake. "P-... Pups..."
"Yeah... You'll see them again... Just stay alive..."
Stay alive, huh..? I can do that... I'm Katsuki fucking Bakugou, the number one hero...
~
Scents and sounds were the only comprehensible things around Katsuki. He thinks he's in a bed and he's pretty sure there's a tube down his throat, helping him breathe.
Wouldn't be the first time.
He just can't seem to wake completely, though. No opening eyes, no moving his fingers. Definitely no speaking.
But he could hear the nurses and the doctors as they came in and out of his room.
Katsuki was moved at one point. From one room to another.
In this room, shortly after he'd been moved, he could finally smell apples and cinnamon with a hint of sugary syrup. He wanted to croon, call to his mate. Katsuki wanted to reach out and hold his Omega to his chest, tell him everything will be alright.
"Kacchan," his mate's voice whimpered and fingers carded through his hair.
God, how he wished to lean into Izuku's hand.
Izuku's scent flooded his senses, even without him being able to breathe properly.
Katsuki wanted to drown in him. Sink in and never come out.
The Omega stayed for only a little while, though. He didn't even speak for that time he was there, other than the once.
Thank God he spoke more the next day.
"Hey, Kacchan... Doctor said there's been no changes..." Katsuki wanted to purr as his hair was pet back. "Wake up, Kacchan... Please, wake up..."
I'm trying, dumbass...
"Daaki and Hana miss you so much, Kacchan..."
Pups... He wanted to hold his pups so bad...
Izuku sobbed softly, holding Katsuki's limp hand. "I'm so sorry... M-maybe if I was there, you wouldn't be so hurt..."
You fucking idiot, you are on leave. How is this even a little bit your fault?
"Todoroki and Iida told me that you went all out because the villains threatened us... Even though you were hurt so badly..." Fingers carded gently through his hair. "I need you to trust me to keep our home safe while you're away... Besides, no one but our closest friends and family knows where we live."
Right. Sometimes he forgets about that bit.
Izuku sighed and moved closer. Katsuki didn't think he could relax anymore, but here he was, more relaxed than ever before.
"I love you, Kacchan..."
Izuku's hands left him and his scent began to fade.
No... No, stay, please... Please don't leave me alone, Izuku...
~
The next time Izuku visited, Eijirou's scent accompanied him. They sat beside his hospital bed and spoke softly to each other, Izuku taking Katsuki's hand in both of his own.
They talked about what happened during the battle and Katsuki slowly remembered the events.
"Momma!"
Izuku and Eijirou both startled and Katsuki wanted to jump forward and take his pup into his arms.
Tadaaki's scent joined them in the hospital room, laced with distress.
"Daaki!? What are you- you should be with Auntie!"
The boy whimpered as his dam lifted him. "I want papa..."
Izuku sighed. Katsuki could picture Izuku holding Tadaaki in his lap, raking his fingers lovingly through the boy's curly blond hair, Tadaaki pouting.
"I know... I know, but papa needs to rest, my little Alpha..."
"Can I snuggle?"
"I don't know how good of an idea that is," Eijirou spoke up this time. "He was hurt pretty bad..."
Tadaaki whimpered.
Katsuki itched to grab his pup. Let me hold him. Please, let me hold him. I want my pup, please...
"Maybe once he's a little better..."
No, now. I need my pup now. Please, I'm begging you...
"But..."
"I know, Daaki. I want to snuggle papa, too... We just have to wait a little while longer..."
God, please! Just for one fucking minute! Please, Izuku! I want him! I need him!
Izuku got up with Tadaaki and carried him away. If he could, Katsuki would have cried for having been separated from his pup.
~
The next day, Tadaaki had come in again. Izuku was so tired, so he fell asleep just minutes after their pup curled up in his lap.
The thing about Tadaaki is... He's just like both of his parents. He can't just do as told. So, a while after his Dam had fallen asleep, Tadaaki crawled onto the hospital bed.
He was oh-so careful, shuffling up to Katsuki's scent gland and curling up tightly.
My pup...
"Papa..."
I'm here, little Alpha... My firecracker, I'm right here...
Tadaaki sniffled, nosing at Katsuki's neck to draw more of his scent out. "Papa... Wake up, papa..."
I'm trying, firecracker... I want to wake up...
"I love you, papa..."
I love you, too, Daaki...
~
When Izuku woke later, he panicked as he saw his pup laying with his sire. He went to pry his pup away, but a nurse had stopped him.
"He's okay, sir. Your pup was very careful not to disturb Mr. Bakugou's injuries and I believe having your pup so close is actually good for him. The computer reported more brain activity, he's relaxed - I think he knows his pup is there..."
No shit, lady.
"Really..? He knows Tadaaki is here?"
"Well, it's not uncommon for a comatose person to be able to sense, or even sometimes hear, the people around them in this state. He might not remember much of what he heard once he wakes, but it's very likely he can hear us and it's very likely he knows Tadaaki is with him."
There was a short pause. Izuku was nervous, leaving his pup in the hospital bed with his mate didn't seem like a good idea, considering the injuries he'd sustained. However, if their pup was helping Katsuki recover...
"I'll leave him, then... I'll keep an eye out, just to make sure Daaki doesn't accidentally hurt him."
"Of course. Oh, and you should bring your little one in as well. I'm sure all of ypur scents together will help him tremendously."
Again, Izuku paused. "Okay... I'll try it..."
Hana... I want to see my Hana...
~
Their little pup cooed as Izuku brought both in their next visit. Tadaaki got on the bed quickly, but was chided by his Dam. He crawled carefully and curled up to get his face in Katsuki's scent gland. Izuku pulled his chair up and sat in it.
Katsuki could smell Hana. He could hear her cooing.
Please give her to me... Please let me hold her...
"Momma?"
"Yes, firecracker?"
"Nurse said papa can hear us?"
"That's right. Papa might be able to hear us."
Tadaaki nuzzled closer, one arm laying over Katsuki's chest. "I love you, papa... Wake up soon, okay..?"
He wanted so badly to comfort his pup. Katsuki wanted to take Tadaaki in his arms and hold him close. Never let go.
His pups and his mate are his whole world, no matter how much he teases or snips.
Tadaaki was his little man. Triping around the house, copying him. Katsuki will never forget the look on Izuku's face when Katsuki was finally able to get Tadaaki to call him momma instead of daddy. Momma stuck and it took Izuku nearly a whole year to stop sighing or groaning when called momma. Tadaaki liked sitting in Katsuki's lap while he did paperwork and he loved wearing glasses to match while Katsuki reading. The pup liked playing on his play laptop while Katsuki did his work on his and he loved helping Katsuki cook.
Hana was his sweet baby girl. Still not talking, not yet able to crawl yet, but she's still the happiest little thing. Grins when she sees her parents, rolls over and loves to be tickled and nuzzled. She loves to be held and sang to. She curls up tight, fingers curled into their shirt. Hana was very clingy and quiet.
Katsuki needs his pups just as much as they need him.
"Momma?"
"What is it, Daaki?"
Tadaaki shifted and looked back to Izuku. "Do you think papa wants to hold Hana?"
Thank God for Tadaaki. Yes, yes he wants to hold Hana.
"I'm sure he does."
"Can I help him?"
"Help him what?"
"Hold Hana, momma."
There was a pause. "Oh, Daaki, I... I don't know. Hana might hurt him."
"How? She's tiny, momma."
"Yes, but she doesn't understand as much as you do."
"That's why I help!" Tadaaki was beginning to whine. He sat up to pout at his Dam.
Izuku was quiet again. "Daaki, I just don't want to risk her accidentally hurting your papa... We don't even know if he really does know what's going on around him..."
"Nurse lady said I was helping, so Hana can help papa, too!"
God, he's just as stubborn as his parents.
"Daaki, stop shouting."
"Please, momma! Just- just a few minutes..."
Izuku sighed softly. Again, it was quiet for a bit. "Alright... Alright, but just for a minute."
Tadaaki squeaked in triumph, kneeling on the bed beside Katsuki as his Dam brought his sister over.
Hana cooed and curled up as she was set carefully on Katsuki's chest, nosing close to Katsuki's scent gland.
Hana...
The pressure on his chest was like a welcome breeze on a sunny day. Her sweet milky scent seeped into his lungs and set his mind at ease.
His two pups in bed with him, so close. He felt whole, especially as Izuku took his hand.
"We're all here, papa," Tadaaki whispered as he lay back down, resting his head against Katsuki's.
My pups... I want to hold you so bad...
Hana yawned, curling up tighter. Her chubby little fingers curled into his hospital gown, purr just strong enough he was able to feel it.
Tadaaki pet Katsuki's hair, staying quiet.
Izuku still held his hand, rubbing his thumb gently over his knuckles.
~
Katsuki didn't think it was possible to be so tired while pretty much in a coma. He's been feeling more and more tired, less able to understand what's been going on around him.
Maybe he is dying. Maybe everything the doctors were doing for him is in vain. He feels like he's fading more and more each day. He can't even tell when days end or start.
He just wants to wake up. Katsuki just wants to see his mate and pups one more time.
That can't be too much to ask, can it..?
Just one more time... Please...
~
It's so... Bright. Why is it bright? Why does he feel so light, but... So heavy? Where is he? He's not in the hospital anymore. Last he checked, he was. He should still be in a coma.
Oh, wait...
He's dead now, isn't he..? When did he die? How? Was it just not enough..? Was he doomed to die the moment he recieved that injury? Was it because he wasn't waking up? Why did he die?
Sorrow swept over him overwhelmingly.
Katsuki didn't get to see his family again...
His pups are still so small...
What if..?
What if they don't remember him..?
Why can't he stick around a while longer?
Is he not allowed to watch his pups grow up?
Is he not allowed to grow old with his mate?
What about all their plans? What about their friends? There's so much left to do, so many people that will be affected by this. It's too soon.
He's not ready to die!
"Not yet! Don't die on me!"
It took a moment, but he realized the voice shouting wasn't his own.
With a jolt - a shock unlike anything he's ever felt - Katsuki jerked and choked, eyes snapping open to see the ceiling of a hospital room and doctors and nurses surrounding him. The heart monitor beeped rapidly, doctors shouting. Katsuki thrashed and gagged, tears pricking his eyes as he was unable to breathe properly.
"Tube- get the fucking tube out! He's choking!"
"Yes, doctor!"
His head was practically forced back, fists clenching in the sheets as the tube was pulled out of his throat and mouth. Once he was relieved of the object, he gasped and coughed, body shaking in agony as everything hit him at once.
Katsuki heaved for breath, vision swirling and lungs clogged with all the overwhelming scents. He couldn't make out the separate voices, all of them just mingling together.
"Sir! Sir, can you hear me?"
A doctor gently grabbed his face.
It took a moment, but the Alpha was finally able to focus on the doctor. He panted, the beeping on the heart monitor steadily slowing down.
"Nod if you understand me."
Katsuki stared, replaying what he said for a moment before nodding slowly.
The doctor grinned and patted his cheek gently. "Good... Good. You gave us quite the freight, Mr. Dynamight. Your heart stopped for three minutes."
"Th-three?" He rasped and coughed afterwards, the effort too much.
"Hey, take it easy. Don't talk, okay? You were out for a while with some pretty serious injuries and you had that tube to help you breathe."
Katsuki swallowed and winced. Yeah, his throat definitely needs time to recover. His nose twitched, finally able to detect his mate's distress among all the harsh scents in the hospital room.
As he started searching for Izuku, the doctor noticed and smiled. "I'll get him for you, sir." The doctor took a step back and bowed before following the last nurse out.
Not even five seconds later was the Omega bursting into the room, teary-eyed and redfaced.
"Kacchan!" He wailed and ran over, sobbing. Izuku nearly collaped to his knees beside the bed, grabbing Katsuki's raised hand. "You're alive! You're awake!"
Katsuki still panted softly, fingers twitching as he tried to squeeze his mate's hand. Izuku smiled weakly and gave his own squeeze.
"I know... I love you..."
The Alpha swallowed again, mouth and throat feeling incredibly dry - and not because he was finally with his mate. Either coma or medicine. One or the other, but he's so damn thirsty.
He glanced around, pausing as he spotted a cup.
Izuku blinked slowly, turning to see what Katsuki was looking at. "Are you thirsty..? Let me get you something, okay?" He got back up, gently stroking Katsuki's hair back.
The blond sighed, eyelids fluttering shut.
A kiss pressed gently to the side of his forehead that wasn't bandaged.
Katsuki breathed deeply, looking around the room as he waited. It wasn't long before his mate returned and helped him sit up just enough to safely drink.
"There..." Izuku set the cup aside when Katsuki waved his hand to signal he was done.
The blond sighed and raised his hand. Izuku teared up once again as Katsuki placed his hand on his cheek, thumb brushing gently under his eye.
"Oh, Kacchan..." The greenette reached up, placing his hand over Katsuki's. "I'm so happy... You're finally awake..."
Katsuki hummed and licked his lips. "Love you," he whispered, voice still hoarse.
Izuku nodded, biting his lip. "I love you, too... So much..."
~
"Papa! Papa's awake!" Tadaaki shrieked in delight as he ran into the hospital room. Katsuki smiled, wincing as he tried helping his pup scramble onto the bed beside him
"Hey, take it easy," Eijirou chided as he swooped in and swatted Katsuki's hand away and helped the pup himself. "Can't risk tearing open those stitches."
"Sorry, uncle Eiji!" Tadaaki purred as he curled up beside Katsuki, nuzzling him happily.
Katsuki hummed, draping an arm around the boy. "Hey, Daaki..."
"Papa, you sound sick."
The blond chuckled, Eijirou and Izuku smiling. "Yeah, I bet I do..."
"When will you come home?"
Katsuki sighed softly, Izuku reaching up to run his fingers through Tadaaki's unruly curls. "Soon, I hope," he whispered, shifting to get more comfortable.
Izuku purred, slowly sitting on the edge of the bed. Hana was in his arms, the little pup fast asleep. "They both missed you so much," he murmured, taking Katsuki's hand.
The Alpha squeezed, running his thumb back and forth over Izuku's knuckles. "I love you..."
Izuku smiled wider and leaned closer. "I love you, too..."

Y'all, I cannot express how thrilled I am I was able to write a short one shot... Everything I've been writing lately turns into 10k+ one shots. Some of theses one shots are longer than the books I've written... But this one is short and sweet and a bit sad at the beginning and in the middle. I'm not thrilled with this, but I am happy i was able to get out something short and actually able to finish it.
So many unfinished projects...
