Chapter 5: Feel Like We've Been Falling Down Like These Autumn Leaves

//SAMMI\\

Nina looks at me, cocking an eyebrow up as I adjust the strap of my shoulder bag. It carries all of the necessities for school. Tyler wraps an arm around her, making er flinch. "Later." He pats her back, and looks up at me, giving me a soft smile. "Give 'em hell, kid."

I roll my eyes as Josh wraps an arm around me,and ushers me towards the door. I sigh and pull on the metal knob. It opens easily, and the sting of Ohio's cold air sticks to my face, and I shiver. Josh shakes his head, laughing, because I've lived here for about Two years, and still, I'm not used to it. "Its only gonna get worse." He chuckles, ruffling my hair.

"I know, I know," I laugh, punching his arm, lightly. "I don't like weather." I step into the passenger side of the car, dusting off my dark, long sleeved shirt. I almost immediately shove Save Rock And Roll into the CD player, and start singing along to The Phoenix. It's extremely funny when Josh sings, too, because he can't hit the high note. "Having trouble?" I giggle as soon as the song is over.

"I'm going to need to get lessons from Patrick." He rolls his eyes.

"Agreed," I giggle, pressing my hands to my thighs. I glance up, at him,as he sucks in his bottom lip. "What?"

"Its nothing," he assures, making me raise an eyebrow. "Cliche father-ish moment, here. You're growing up too fast." Josh glances at me, tightening his grip on the steering wheel. He blows out a puff of air, shaking his head as I let out a small chuckle.

"Aw. You're afraid of losing me, aren't you?" I smile, placing my hand on his shoulder. He shakes his head, sighing.

"I've lost a lot of things, Sam. I know you're going to be added to the list, and I don't want that to happen just yet." He pulls into the school parking lot, and gives me a look. "Not yet."

"We've got two years till college, Josh. It's okay." I nod, a small grin appearing on my face. "Enough with the soppy sad story crap. We find out what roles we get for the play!!" I clap.

"Did you knock 'em dead last week?" A crack of laughter erupts from his throat.

"I guess we'll just have to wait and see." I roll my eyes, kissing his cheek, and stepping out. "Go make music, Drummer Boy. I'll see you after school." I wave, and so does he. When I close the door, he hesitates, before reluctantly driving off. I roll my eyes, and stare at the crowd of kids clustered around the door to the electives wing. Hopeless. Oh well, I probably just got a chorus role, anyway.

"Sammi!" I hear someone call. I turn to see my best friend, Alex. He stands there with a sheepish grin plastered on his pudgy face. He playfully pokes my arm, making me step back, and raise an eyebrow. "Did you check the cast list for Les Miserables, yet?" He bounces up and down, making me roll my eyes.

"No. I don't want to," I state plainly. He continues to stare at me, that dumb grin never leaving his face. "Alex, if I look, will you stop staring at me?" I grumble, in annoyance.

"Yep."

"I hate you, sometimes." I press my palms to the table, pushing myself, and shove my other earbud in. I weave my way through the crowd. When I get there, I search for my name in the chorus roles, and, to my surprise, my name isn't in the cluster of chorus names. Concerned, I begin to search the lead roles. "No," I squeak. "That's a misprint! That cannot be possible!" A grin spreads across my face, a mile wide. There, in bold print I see, Cosette Val Jean: Samira Dun. "Oh, my God!" I bounce on the balls of my feet. That is, until I check the understudy list. Cosette Val Jean (understudy): Lacey Turner. "Oh, no."

"What?!" Speak of the devil. Lacey Turner is your stereotypical bitch. Her and her little 'pack' are pretty much the worst thing to human kind since Hitler. Her 'perfect' brown hair, and her 'amazing' fashion sense. She is the common rich girl. Her mom owns a super successful jewellery company. I don't think that the girl has ever fed herself. "What?!" I hear again, closer. I can't help but laugh at her reaction.

"Hey, congrats on Cosette!" My friend, Brit, says. She pats by back, and I press a short nod, and a smile.

"Yeah! Congrats," Lacey hisses, from behind me, making me flinch. "Why don't you call your mom and tell her, right now." She crosses her arms as a look of complete horror crosses my face.

"I can't." I squeak.

"Why not?" She smiles at the girls behind her, knowing that she's got me exactly where we wants me. She knows my weak spots. She knows my wounds, and she's rubbing salt straight in them.

"Fuck off!" I spit, chucking a pencil at her face. I begin to walk, but the shorter of her minions, Kate, stops me.

"Why can't you call your Mommy, and tell her the great news?" She laughs, looking back at Lacey for approval.

There's a soft knock on the door, but I'm to invested in my dolls to get it, leaving my father to go do the job. I pay no attention to the man in the doorway, only that he's very well dressed, and that's scary for a six year old girl.

Dad shuts the door, wiping his eyes, and heading over to me. "Samira, come here, honey." He holds his arms out for me, and I raise an eyebrow, but follow his orders. "You know that Mommy loves you very much?" I nod. "Well, she isn't going to be back for a long time."

"Where is she going?" I whisper, blinking.

"Your mother has gone to a very beautiful place, where angels and humans walk among each other. Its much better than where she was, before."

"Can we visit?" I squeak, holding onto him, tightly.

"We will be able to stay there, one day." He nods, wiping a tear from his eyes, and holding me close.

Three months after that, he left me on the doorstep of that stupid orphanage with nothing but a bag of clothes, and never came back. I waited 8 years, until Josh found me. We just kind of clicked. But any mention of my birth parents is strictly prohibited from my ears.

"You know why, so why don't you just leave me alone?" I growl, adjusting the strap of my backpack.

"No, I don't." Lacey giggles, her over glossed lips never failing to fall.

"She's dead!" I screech, my heart pounding in my chest. I fail to choke back a sob as I make run for it. Sally, the bigger of the three, steps in front of me, making me slam into her, and fall to the ground. I wipe my eyes, as they close in on me, and I'm left crawling up against the wall, sobbing.

Lacey leans over me, the stench of vanilla lilac perfume stinging in my nostrils. "Watch your back, Cosette. I'm gonna be the one kissing that Marius," she gestures to the tall, brown haired sophomore named Connor Paisley. "not you." She kicks my side, and I let out a tiny yelp of pain, which gets a few people to look up from their phones. "Stay out of my way, Dun." We are attracting an audience, now, and one of the members is Connor. That makes her straighten up, and flip her hair, smiling at him as Mr. Davis pulls her away, along with Kate and Sally. I wipe another tear from my eyes, and stand, dusting myself off.

"Uhm, Hi." Connor cautiously approaches me, making me raise an eyebrow. "You're Sammi, right? I thought I'd formally introduce myself." I nod, brushing my hair back into place with my hand. "Uhm... I'm Connor. It looks like we're gonna have to become pretty good friends, huh?"

I nod, trying to think about my past, too much. Hot guys before hatred. "Yeah. Well, first in my friend test, what music do you listen to?"

"Eh, mostly stuff that is relatable. You know, twenty one pilots, Fall Out Boy, Grieves, Mel." He lists. "I'm trusting you know who I'm talking about?"

"Very much." I paste a smile on my face. "Well, Connor, I'm Sammi Dun."

"Dun? Holy shit." He gaped, and I can't suppress a laugh.

"Adoptive father. Its so fun freaking people out with that." I laugh, glancing down at the floral VANS that Tyler gave to me, after he outgrew them.

"Well, Sammi, I'll see you around?" He asks, smiling, hopefully.

"Definitely! Find me after school, I can introduce you to Josh if you want." I smile.

"Really? Thanks!" He raises an eyebrow. His cheekbones are so intricate, and he has a small scar over his left eye.

"Yep." I wave to him, walking back to where Alex and Brit sit. Alex is sitting there, with that same grin on his face, and Brit us clapping.

"Samira Dun, do you have a crush?" Brit teases, a tiny laugh rumbling in her throat.

"No way!" I yelp, laughing a little louder than her. "I do have to kiss him in 6 months, so..." I point out.

"Well, it looks like he's crushing on you." Alex points in the direction of Connor, who is looking at me, from behind his friends.

"Whatever."

Oh you thought
You could crumble me up
In the palm of your hand
Well I bet that sucks
'Cause now you know you can't.

I'm not
A paper doll
Can't make me
What you want

You just
Build me up
Tear me down
Enough is enough

Go
Leave me alone
Cut me down,
But I won't fall
I'm not a paper doll.

My god, this is starting to sound like the Fall Out Girl series. Eh. Sammi and Nina are the two main characters, tbh. Nina causes things, and Sammi is the most effective.

What does Nina cause?

Spoilers.

THIS CHAPTER IS SO SHORT GAH DEH IT!

Anyway, that's Sammi's back story. :)
