Technology is our Friend ... Sort of ...
Most of us have no idea what it's like to knock out a manuscript on a manual typewriter. I've used an electric one but it was long before I began writing. Yes, people, I'm old. You haven't lived until you had to use correction tape. It is a test of patience.
There are people who like doing it the hard way, whether it's writing things out longhand first or using an old typewriter. I am not one of these people.
I will never say that using a computer is the easy way out. I love my laptop and I never want to use a typewriter again. I'd spend half my time making corrections.
There is something to be said for keeping handwritten notes or backups of things, however.
I use the notes feature on my phone a lot to jot down ideas for books or write out a scene I might think of. I never thought much about it, they were there on my phone when I needed them. Then some ass stole my phone and they were gone. I had an idea for a children's book all written out, it's gone. I lost a lot of stuff when that guy took my phone. Not only my notes but all my pictures as well (It was an old phone there was no cloud backup stuff). My cat Max had just passed away the month before and I hadn't had a chance to back up the pictures to my computer yet. I lost all my pictures of him that were on the phone. I didn't care about the actual phone. It was a piece of junk and worth absolutely nothing. What mattered to me was what was on the phone.
My tip for you, back your stuff up and do it often. Whether it's your computer or your phone. Back it up to something. The cloud, a thumb drive, something. Change your passwords now and then. If anything is stolen immediately report it. As soon as that guy grabbed my phone I reported it to T-mobile and they shut the phone down and locked it. As soon as I got home I changed all my passwords for my apps. People can hack a lot of stuff and if your phone is good, they'll wipe it clean, ship it to some foreign country, and it will be sold.
It's also a good rule of thumb not to write directly into a website (like Wattpad). Things happen and stuff can be lost. I've seen people on here lose things, whether it was a chapter or an entire book. Write in Word or Google docs and copy and paste. Keep a copy of your work somewhere else so if something happens and it's lost, you can readily replace it.
I realize this chapter didn't have much to do with the actual writing process, but I still feel it's important information.
