"WHERE THE SHELL WERE YOU!?!"

Madi's eyes widened as she suddenly remembered that she was supposed to walk home with Jacob and April. But instead, she had gone to get a new costume with the band she'd be performing with, that way they all would have matching outfits for the dance. She quickly hid the bag that contained her costume behind her back as everyone glared at her. 

Raph, Leo, Donnie, Mikey, April, Jacob, Lisa, Sam, and even Splinter had decided to join the party.

"We thought that you'd been kidnapped or something! You should've been home ages ago!" Lisa said as she ran and hugged her daughter. Sam barked and ran to her as well, standing on her hind legs and joining the hug. The others weren't as happy.

"I'm really sorry, Mom. It's just that I've been hanging out with-"

"With 'TAF'? Yeah, I've noticed." April hissed in anger. "You ditched me at lunch to sit by them, remember that?" 

"Look, I can explain everything-"

"And what's in the bag?" Raph asked. Everyone was silent as they waited for Madi to answer. She took a deep breath, trying to contain her anger.

"Mom, Master Splinter, would it be alright if I talked to you in the dojo alone?" Madi asked.

"No, if you have something to say, you can say it in front of us." April growled, but stopped when Splinter put his hand on her shoulder. He looked at Madi and Lisa, then nodded. Madi and Lisa began to follow him to the dojo while everyone stood there with their mouths hanging open.

"Are you serious?!" Raph shouted in anger and frustration. "You're going to let her get off the hook this easily?! This is so unfair!"

"Raph," Leo said, putting his hand on his shoulder to calm him down. "Maybe something happened."

"Yeah, something happened alright. She probably was hanging out with Daniel-"

"Why would she do that, Raph? He wants to kill her, remember?" Mikey asked him.

"Y' know what? I know how we can get our answers I'll just text the 'TAF's and ask them what's going on." April suggested. "Jacob can text Corbin, Jeromy, and Leo. I'll text Ashley and Kimberly." Jacob nodded and pulled out his phone.

"Who are they? The 'TAF's?" Donnie asked.

"They're a band. They had asked Jacob if he wanted to sing with them on the night of the dance, but he told them no." April said as she began texting furiously on her phone. Jacob's eyes widened as he finally realized what was going on.

"April, I know why Madi was late." he said.

"Well, spit it out!" Raph told him.

"When I told the 'TAF's that I couldn't sing with them, I said that Madi was free. They must've asked her at play rehearsals this morning." he replied. April's anger face was erased and replaced with a huge smile as she jumped up and down, squealing.

"OMG! This is great news! I'm so happy for her-"

"WHAT?!" 

Everyone looked up as they heard Madi shout from within the dojo.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T GO!?" the dojo doors were suddenly shoved open, Madi stomping out in anger with Master Splinter and Lisa following behind. "This is so unfair!" Madi shouted as she turned around to face her mom. Everyone was silent as they watched, stunned. They had never seen Madi so upset before, it was like a whole new side of her. Because, technically, it was.

"Madeline! You come back over here right now!" Lisa shouted as she followed her daughter.

"This is so wrong! I'm finally starting to be accepted by the world again, finally after Daniel's betrayal and THIS is how you help me out with this?! Thanks a lot, Mom! Your help is dearly appreciated!" Madi shouted sarcastically as she walked into her bedroom, slamming the door behind her.

"Well, your understanding is absolutely amazing!" Lisa shouted back, her tone the exact same as her daughter's. 

"Thanks! I get it from my dead dad!" Madi shrieked through her bedroom door.

Everything was silent after that as Lisa breathed heavily, trying to slow down her beating heart as it pounded angrilly in her chest.

Madi sat on her bed, grabbing her pillow and screaming into it. How could her mother be so difficult? After everything she had been through, this is how her mother reacts? By grounding her? So what she was a little late, it's not like she was dead! She came home in one piece, she hadn't even been attacked! But no! 

Madi stood up.

She was going to that dance.

Whether her mother liked it or not.
