Episode 4: The Silver-Haired Boy

Blake sat down on the farther seat in the back that he could find. He couldn't stand the thought of being in the front, having everyone's eyes on him while easily being able to obscure the fact that they were staring at him.

He took a quick gaze at those seated around him. One of them was the watermelon-haired girl whom he had shared his 'first kiss' with. The girl slowly turned to look at him but quickly looked away as soon as she felt his cerulean eyes on her.

The ebony-haired boy glanced away, feeling his face heat up. His stomach felt like there were butterflies inside. His memories may have been gone, but something told him that he had never felt like this until now.

"Hey," Roy whispered, wearing an impish grin. "You checking that girl out? Her name is Melony. She's the most popular girl around, so your chances aren't very good. Trust me, I tried."

Blake's eyes returned to his vanilla desk. He could barely recall who he was, right now wasn't the time for him to focus on stuff like love. He had to concentrate on recovering those lost memories and learning what his power was.

For the rest of the day, he focused on his studies, hoping that perhaps one of his lectures might trigger a memory or two. Alas, there was none, other than his disdain for math. Though he was good at it.

"Yes, we're done!" Roy yelled as soon as the final bell rung. He put an arm around Blake's neck. "Now, to begin your training."

Blake gulped. He was unsure about this whole power thing, but if it would help him remember who he is, then he was willing to do it.

Later on they made their way to the only suitable and spacious place for Blake's training at the time. Upon a lush green grassy hill next to a windmill overlooking the school.

"Are you ready?" asked Diane.

He wanted to say no, but he couldn't chicken out. "Y...yeah."

Roy chuckled. "You shouldn't worry. You are in good hands. To begin, we'll explain XYZ in detail. Diane take it away!"

Diane cleared her throat. "Alright to begin..."

Blake rubbed the back of his head. Sweat ran down his face like a stream. Suddenly, he heard the disturbing drag of a boulder across the ground. Roy lifted it with a single arm and placed it beside Diane.

Diane formally flicked her index finger out to the boulder and cleared her throat. "To begin, you need to recognize that when you have XYZ..."

As she paused in her statement, she punched the boulder with her arm fully extended. The boulder was sent through the windmill and down the hill. As it went down it broke into smaller and smaller pieces and those pieces further caught on fire.

Blake's knees were knocking against each other at this point. Roy gave him an intimidating grin which didn't really make things easier for him.

"Roy, get the next boulder." Diane said, giving Roy a smile. Roy nodded in agreement while he cracked his knuckles.

'What have I gotten myself into?' Blake thought. 'I understand that I need to know myself in all aspects as things are, but...'

Roy pushed an even larger boulder than before in front of Blake's face and to make matters worse, he sat on top of it. Roy chuckled in satisfaction, smiling impishly.

'Is it worth it?'

"Come on, Blake." Diane said, giving him an encouraging smile.

"Hah! Maybe if you manage to actually lift this boulder you might actually get a date with Melony!"

Blake blushed, but at the same time he was also confused. He knew nothing of Melony, still his reaction made it 'obvious'.

"You know I'm joking, right? How could you possibly have a chance with her! She's the most popular girl in school!" he added.

Blake's blush faded away immediately after that spirit-shattering statement. He stretched his legs apart and stared down the giant rock with the determination of a sumo wrestler about to pummel his opponent.

"You shouldn't have done that," he warned, rushing at Roy and the stone.

Blake pushed the boulder and sadly, it didn't even flinch. Veins popped up in both his head and hands. He gritted his teeth in frustration.

Roy burst into uncontrollable laughter. Out of disgust, Diane shot a mini-fireball from her fingertip into the back of Roy's neck.

Roy held his neck in pain and fell off the boulder onto his head. "W-what was that for!"

"Stop laughing at him! His memories are gone, he knows nothing of XYZ nor himself. The least you can do is encourage him," Diane scolded, tightening her fist.

Roy got up and raised an eyebrow at her. "Listen Diane. Everyone has a method of teaching. But for XYZ, you have to be aggressive with yourself, push yourself beyond the human limit! That's what we did, remember!"

Diane lowered her head and rubbed her right elbow. "I know but... Blake is different. On top of that we aren't the scientists. No matter how long we've had XYZ, we still know very little about it."

"Uh, guys!" Blake yelled. Roy and Diane glanced back at Blake. His face was filled with worry. It was then that they both thought it would be a good idea to follow the direction of is pupils. So they did and spotted something all school children hate, no matter what age. Four tall, muscular teenage boys pushed around a silver haired boy around their age. Roy and Diane looked at the scene with grimancy.

"Guys you gotta help him!" Blake yelled.

Roy looked at him with a confident grin. "You should help him!"

Blake's mouth dropped. "What!"

"This would be the perfect chance to see what you're made of. Now go!" Roy yelled. Roy stepped over to him and pushed him off the hill with no second thoughts.

Diane gasped and burnt him once again with a mini-fireball.

"Seriously!" Roy yelled, rubbing his neck.

Blake landed flat on his stomach. As he got up he left his body's outline in the sand. He rubbed the sand off his forehead and widely opened his eyes.

The four boys turned their attention to him, first having a confused look, then devilish smirks. They cracked their knuckles as they left the silver haired boy and began walking over to Blake.

"No...!" Diane said.

"Relax..." Roy replied.

Blake got up and pushed his chest out bravely, yet at the same time having sweat running down his face and dripping from his chin. Suddenly, they began charging at Blake with evil smiles.

Blake dashed in the opposite direction. His legs moved involuntarily at that moment.

"Get back here, kid!"

Two medium-sized fireballs appeared in the palms of Diane's hand.

"Just wait already!" Roy said. "Blake can do this!"

Diane pouted in frustration as she watched Blake run helplessly.

Soon, they were catching up to him. Blake gasped as he glanced behind him. They were only a few feet behind him, rapidly closing the gap. 'This is it! I'm done for! It's just like when I woke up from that lab!'

Suddenly the four boys froze in their tracks. Roy and Diane opened their mouths in surprise. Blake skid across the sand and made a complete stop. He turned around and stared at the four in confusion.

His pupils darted downwards. He was then shocked to see their legs frozen in solid, frothy ice.

"Where the heck did that come from!" Roy yelled.

Diane gasped. "Look!" She pointed at the boy haired boy covered in bruises from the bullies' earlier attacks. A cold energy radiated from the young man's hands.

"H-hey, why are our legs frozen!" one of the bullies yelled.

"I-It's that kid...! He has to be...! He's one of those... Freaks!" said another.

"It just... Can't be possible..." Diane said with shaky eyes and quivering lips.

"Hmph. There's no doubt about it!" Roy said, staring into the vengeful eyes of the boy. "Looks like he got XYZ too!"

"No... Way...!" Blake said.

The ice climbed from their feet, up to the legs, and from legs to their torsos.

"S...stop!" Blake yelled at the boy as the ice inched up the bullies' necks.

The silver haired guy stopped and looked at him.

"You're going to kill them," he finished.

The ice XYZ user didn't respond as the ice slowly came to a stop. The bullies were foaming at the mouth, so afraid that they had passed out.

"Who are you?" Diane asked. The stranger turned his back to her, continuing on his way. "Hey! Aren't you going to unfreeze them."

The guy didn't respond.

"I'll go get some answers from him," Roy said. "You unfreeze these four. Come Blake!"

Blake nodded as he watched Diane start the defrosting process. 'Why hadn't the guy answered? Is he as cold as his element? But if so then, why had he taken all those hits?' He shook his head. 'We'll find our answers once we find him.'
