Chapter 2
Warnings: None
~Lachlan's P.O.V~
Pain. That's the first thing I feel. Agonizing pain rips through my head causing me to clutch it and groan loudly. Forcing my eyes to open and see through said pain, I glance around as my hazy vision begins to clear. This... This place isn't my room... So where am I? I silently ask myself, trying to find anything that might seem familiar. Blocks... That's all there is... Different coloured blocks. Why would somebody make a room out of blo- wait. It's like something clicks in my brain. I bolt upright quickly, scooting backwards until my back hits a tree. IM IN MINECRAFT ! Those three words. The only words I can think of. And just to confirm my suspicions I glance down at my body. And as expected, I'm dressed as my minecraft character and my limbs and body are made of blocks.
"This cannot be happening!" I whisper harshly to myself.
Cautiously I push myself up from my previous position of pressing back again a tree. Dusting myself off, I strain to think of anything I might be forgetting because for some reason, my conscious won't leave my poor aching brain alone.
What the fudge do you want conscious?! Oh great now I'm talking with myself. I must be going crazy. To snap myself out of this terrifying state I slap myself hard across the face. As I do hearts pop I font of my vision and a half heart disappears and not only did it indeed save me from going mad, it also put my conscious to rest for one name at that time pops into my head.
"Vikk!"
Worry floods through my veins as I begin to imagine all the horrible things that could have happened to him. I spin around in a full circle looking for any signs of his presence but finding none, I prepare to go searching for him. That is until, a certain blocky figure appears a couple trees away. Speak of the devil.
"Vikk!" I holler, sprinting towards him.
"Lachlan? I didn't think you'd be aw- oof!"
I practically body slam him, wrapping my arms around his neck and almost knocking him over. After a second he pats my back signalling that he needed to breath, which is understandable since I'm probably strangling him.
"You almost gave me a heart attack Vikk! Where on earth did you go?!" I shout, gripping his shoulders firmly.
"I'm sorry mate. I thought you would be out a lot longer so I went out quickly to scan the area and look for food... I've only been gone about ten minutes! I really didn't think you'd wake up in that time."
"I guess I can't complain... But since you looked around, did you see anything that you think might be a way back to our home?"
"Not anything direct, no, but I did see a beacon so maybe we should head there and check that out."
I nod and agreement and with that we set off. And as far as I know, we only have the clothes on our backs. Fiddling with the hem of my hoodie, I follow Vikk, my eyes darting around wildly at the eerie silence. Besides the steady thudding of our feet, not a sound can be heard. If pins were encoded into minecraft, then you'd hear one drop. A shiver pulses down my spine and I pick up my pace to walk closer to Vikk and gain some reassurance.
Finally we arrive in a small clearing. But it's not just any clearing, oh no. In this clearing stands many things that instantly intrigue me and caused my thoughts to tangle up into one big knot just trying to guess their purposes. In the middle, a nether portal frame. Although not lit. On the right ten wooden buttons all with red stone lamps above them. Under each button stands a sign reading level 1, level 2, level 3, and so on all the way down. And finally on the left a chest with a sign on it that clearly reads in big bold letters "food." And beside this chest a small pillar of blocks with an item frame and a written book placed inside. Oh and also of course the beacon, which stands behind the nether portal frame.
Vikk and I exchange equally confused glances as he warily approaches the food chest and pulls out some baked potatoes. Then he gently removes the book from the frame and flips it to the first page.
Clearing his throat he begins to read, "Ahem... The first page says... Ten levels, one life. Because just like in real life, you know you can't just press respawn and start again..." Vikk reads aloud, taking his time in saying each word, "And page two says, If you wish to return to your world, you need to complete all ten levels. And that's all it says." He finishes, placing the book back into the item frame.
The mix of emotions flooding inside of me at this point is just to much to take so instead I just say the one thing to wrap up most of my thoughts, "What kinds of sick joke is this?" I practically growl, taken aback by this whole series of events.
"I don't know. But if there's one thing I know I can say for both of us is that I want to get this over with and go home. So what do you say? Are you ready?"
I sigh, covering my face with my hand and walking towards the first button, "Ready as I'll ever be."
And with that I push the button and the portal sparks to life. Stepping up beside Vikk, we give each other a confident nod and step into the purple mist of the portal. Within seconds we are in a small room with no doors and only a single sign.
"Level 1: Hunger Games. Win the game to advance." I read slowly, before the room disappears and we are left standing on the pedestals of a classic minecraft hunger games match.
"This is not what I was expecting for level one." Vikk and I say in uninson.
