Chapter 42 - I Would Follow You Anywhere

~ Luciana's POV ~

Once the police had cleared out, Alessio and I were quick to leave the house to take Alana to the hospital after the fall she had. No one really had much time to say anything not that we wanted to since we were all still pretty much in shock from what just happened. Thankfully we were only there for a few minutes while the doctor checked her over and gave her the all clear along with a few judgmental stares towards Alessio and I.

As we got back into the car with Alessio in the drivers seat and for once I was able to sit with him in the front since Alana was fast asleep. "Where are Tomasso and Daliah?"

"Daliah just texted. They were going to meet us at the hospital but she decided just to go back to our house instead. She said Tomasso wasn't up for it and that it was better to get him home."

A small frown made its way onto my face at the thought of Daliah and Tomasso being alone together. In my house.

I just hope they didn't break anything expensive if they started arguing.

"He's not coping with Thea's death, but I don't know what to do Luciana." Alessio glanced over at me as he drove and apart from the obvious exhaustion from today's events I could see the pain and stress he was in.

"Let's take it step by step. First when we get home, just talk to him. He doesn't need anything else apart from his bestfriend." I gave him a small smile, placing my hand on his which was resting on the center console. "And while you're looking out for him, I'll be here, looking out for you."

Instead of saying anything else he just nodded his and lifted my hand up to his lips, pressing a quick kiss on it before resting it on his leg. We sat in silence for the rest of the 5 minute ride back home.

Once we pulled up to the house Alessio got Alana from the car seat and we made our way inside, and surprisingly it was dead silent. Honestly I wouldn't have known that Tomasso and Daliah were here if it wasn't for their cars outside.

The moment I stepped into the living room I had to resist the urge to make an 'aww' sound at the sight in front of me. Instead while smiling like a crazy person, I turned around in the doorway and gestured for Alessio to come into the living room, ignoring the weird look he gave me as he came over to me. Honestly I expected him to be as excited as me but instead he just rolled his eyes and made his way upstairs to put Alana down in her crib, leaving me standing there alone.

Before I followed him upstairs I quietly went inside, grabbing a blanket off the couch and draping it over Daliah and Tomasso. Of course I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to take a photo of them either. It's not everyday you see two people who despise each other curled up together on your couch asleep. Daliah even had her head resting on Tomasso's chest.

I don't know why I never thought of the possibility before, I totally ship it.

Tomaliah.

I love it.

<<<<<<< >>>>>>> <<<<<<<<

"Good morning." Looking up from my magazine I watched Daliah as she narrowed her eyes at me while she shuffled into the kitchen half asleep, taking a seat opposite me at the table. A smile soon appeared on her face as she took in the food laid out on the table. "You did all this for me? You shouldn't have Luciana."

I rolled my eyes at her tone as she dug into the food, piling her plate as high as she could. You would think this girl has never seen food before the way she was devouring it.

"I didn't do it for you, I did it for my fiancé." She nodded her head although I knew she didn't care what I was saying. "Where is he?"

I let out a tired sigh, leaning back into my chair as I held my coffee mug in my hands. "He's taking a shower. He's hardly said two words to me since last night."

"Just give him time Luciana. He'll open up to you." I nodded my head as I took another sip of my coffee, the room fell silent for a moment before I remembered what I saw last night. Instantly I sat up straight giving Daliah an excited grin while she sat wide eyed across from me, obviously confused with my sudden change in behaviour.

"So?" She finished chewing her last bite before she spoke, still giving me an odd look. "So what?"

"What happened between you and Tomasso?"

The second I mentioned his name it was like something went off in her head as her eyes widened in realisation."Oh! Crap. Oh dear." I watched as she dropped her fork and pushed her chair back quickly standing to her feet. "I didn't realise the time, I really should get going Luciana."

I watched in amusement as she started making her way towards the door in a rush, crashing into the island in the middle of the kitchen on her way. I winced at the contact as she let out a loud curse word before she turned around facing me to say something else. "I would say we'll catch up later but I have a feeling I'm going to be getting the flu in the next couple of hours so I'll just get back to you soon. Maybe. Possibly. Don't try and contact me, we don't want you to catch the flu now do we?"

While she was talking my attention shifted to something behind her when my eyes caught sight of someone coming into the kitchen. I opened my mouth to try and warn her but in her haste she quickly spun around, crashing straight into Tomasso. His arms shot out to steady her as he stared at her with a mix of confusion and amusement, while Daliah just stood there staring at him with her mouth wide open like she'd just seen a ghost.

Suddenly realisation hit her, again, and she stepped out of his reach, raising a hand to point at him in shock. "You! You're here. Oh, wow, you're here. You're not sleeping anymore. You're awake now. That's interesting. Okay, I'll just..." I had to cover my mouth to stop myself from laughing as I watched her shuffle around him getting closer to the door while keeping her eyes on him the whole time. "I have to go now, I have the flu later so I just need to leave now...so bye."

With that she quickly ran out of the kitchen and moments later we heard the front door slam shut. Oh the second hand embarrassment was real.

The kitchen was silent for a moment before Tomasso turned to face me. "What the hell just happened?"

The second the words left his mouth I finally burst out laughing. Every time I replayed the images in my mind another wave of laughter hit me until I was a teary mess. Finally I managed to calm down and wipe my eyes to see Tomasso still standing there now just staring at me trying to control his own smile. Maybe it was too early in the morning for him to laugh.

"Why are you laughing so much? And who just slammed the door?" My laughter eventually died down when Alessio came into the kitchen with a deep frown on his face. It was the kind of frown that just tells you to shut the hell up before that person loses it and kills you.

You might say I'm exaggerating, but I can guarantee you that at that moment in the kitchen there was at least 18 guns and over ten knives hidden around the room. That's excluding the knives we use to cook. These mafia men don't mess about.

"Uh, to answer your question Daliah slammed the door when she left and I was laughing because Daliah-"

"You know what Luciana, I actually don't care. Just stop talking." My eyes widened at the way he cut me off and suddenly the room became a lot more tense. My eyes drifted over to Tomasso who looked between Alessio and I before he stepped back towards the door.

"I'll just go and check on Alana." With that he left us, closing the kitchen door quietly behind himself.

"What's your problem Alessio? I know you're upset about yesterday but you don't have to be such a jerk." Alessio looked up the coffee he was pouring into a mug, narrowing his eyes at what I said.

"Don't Luciana, I'm not in the mood." Instead of arguing with him since I knew it wasn't going to do either of us any good, I just went back to sipping on my coffee and skimming through the random magazine I found this morning.

"You made all this?" I nodded my head refusing to look up at Alessio when he stopped next to the table, no doubt staring at all the food I had made to cheer him up. Maybe I went a little overboard, but I just wanted him to feel a little better.

"What for? I know Tomasso and Daliah were here but-"

"I didn't make it for them. I did it for you, to cheer you up." I still refused to look at him, turning the page of the magazine as he let out a sigh. I was vaguely aware of him when he sat down on the chair next to me before he reached out and closed the magazine when I still didn't look at him.

"Look at me for a minute." Letting out a sigh I turned my head to look at him, raising an eyebrow at him. Instead of saying anything he just leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine.

"Thank you." When I didn't respond to him he kissed me once again, clearly amused with my silence although I have no idea why. "I love you."

"Mhm. Here." I picked up an empty plate giving it to him before opening the magazine again. Once Alessio had finished putting the food on his plate he sat next to me in silence and the whole time I could feel the heat of his gaze burning through me. I almost froze when he suddenly leaned in close enough to me to whisper in my ear.

"Do you really find the latest designs of garden sheds more interesting than talking to me?" Once again I could hear the amusement in his tone which only developed into laughter when he saw the blush rise up on my cheeks.

"Stop making fun of me I'm trying to be angry at you Alessio." When I turned to look at me I didn't expect him to still be so close but he didn't waste the opportunity and pressed his lips to mine again, and this time I did respond to the kiss. Eventually when he pulled away from me he rested his forehead against mine.

"I know and I'm sorry, I shouldn't have spoken to you like that." Instead of responding to him I just pecked his lips once more and moved away so that he could eat his breakfast. A few minutes went by before I finally got the courage to ask him something that had been on my mind all morning which is actually the main reason that I had time to make such a huge breakfast before everyone else woke up.

"Alessio?" He hummed in response, glancing over at me as he took a sip of his coffee. "I was thinking earlier that I want to call my mom, you know, just to get some answers from her...but I don't want to do it alone."

He seemed a little caught of guard by what I said, obviously not expecting it to be that. But, thankfully he didn't seem to have any problems with it.

"Are you sure you don't want to wait a few days? After last night it might be too much to speak to her too." I shook my head at his suggestion although it did make sense, but I just wanted to get it over and done with. "No I'm sure, I want to do it today."

Later that day once we managed to get Alana down for her nap Alessio sat with me on the couch to finally call my mom and get some answers from her about this whole thing. It did take a little longer than expected, only because the nerves suddenly hit me the moment we actually sat down to call her.

When she answered the phone the conversation only lasted for five minutes while she attempted to explain that she never wanted to hurt me and that she always wanted to keep me separate from 'this life that was just never meant for me'. When I finally told her I didn't actually want an explanation from her and the main reason I was calling was because I wanted to know more about my real father she didn't really say much to me after that.
She claimed that she'd shut that part of her life, which was basically just the affair and the murder of my father, out of her mind.

The only thing I did manage to get from her was the information for where my father was buried.

In Italy.

The island of Sicily to be more precise.

Anyway, surprisingly Alessio was the one who suggested we go to Sicily, mainly because he was already planning to go there for some business as the mafia is primarily based there and he also wanted to get away from New York for a while after what happened last night.

So, that explains why two days later Alessio, Alana and I were in Sicily. It was only the three of us because Tomasso didn't want to come claiming he had work to do. The real reason was because he was still getting over what happened with Thea and he just wanted to throw himself into his work.

It was only a short trip anyway and I guess it was nice for us to spend some time together as a family away from the drama in New York. Even if it was for four days only.

"Alana stop it." I let out a tired groan when once again she spat out the food I was trying to feed her for breakfast. Grabbing the napkin I wiped her mouth before cleaning the food up, deciding just to put the spoon back in the bowl of porridge. I'd been trying to feed her for twenty minutes and every time she had a spoonful she spat it out a few seconds later.

Oh the joys of having a child.

After our flight last night Alana for some reason had a lot of energy but was in a bad mood. So this morning when we woke up, not wanting to listen to her tantrum, Alessio left to go to the gym to get away and told me to order room service for breakfast for Alana and I.

Typical.

"So you're not hungry?" Alana of course didn't answer, so I took that as a yes and went to push the bowl away but Alana beat me to it. I watched as she hit the edge of the bowl with surprisingly a lot of power in her little hands causing it to flip over. In that moment Alessio finally decided to turn up again.

"Oh crap." I rolled my eyes when he stopped in his tracks his eyes taking in the scene before him, obviously realising I wasn't going to be happy that he left me to deal with an irritable Alana. I glanced over at him before looking at the porridge now all over the table and some of it covering Alana - how she managed to get so messy was beyond me. He gave me a sheepish smile, slowly edging closer to the bathroom to take a shower before I stopped him.

"No way Alessio, don't even think about. You're cleaning this up and giving her a bath."

I narrowed my eyes at him when he was about to protest but thankfully he closed his mouth before any of the words came out. He made his way over to Alana and I used a napkin to clean most of the porridge of her before he picked her up out of her high chair holding her in his arms. I watched as Alana grinned in his arms and rested her head on his shoulder, nuzzling her face in his neck.

Even though I was smiling at the cute gesture I was still irritated that she was now conveniently acting very calm now that Alessio was here.

"Why are you so annoyed Luciana? Look at her, she's an angel." I rolled my eyes when Alessio pinched her cheek softly causing her to smile to widen. I stood to my feet, stepping closer to Alana, narrowing my eyes at her when she turned her head to look at me. "I'll get you back for this."

Alessio just chuckled at my words and took Alana into the bathroom to give her bath, of course leaving me to deal with the mess. After a while he was finally done and handed Alana back to me now wrapped in a towel.

"I'll just take a shower then we'll go?" I shook my head and put Alana down on the bed, going over to get some clothes and a diaper for her from the suitcase.
"I'm gonna take a shower after you then we'll go. You should eat too."

He nodded his head and came over pressing a kiss to my cheek before he went into the bathroom.

We were planning to leave within hour when finally both Alessio and I were ready but instead we waited for Alana to finally go down for her nap before we did. It was probably better than taking an irritable baby to a cemetery.

Eventually we parked up at the cemetery and we got out of Alessio's car. His Rolls Royce Dawn didn't mean as much to him as his car in New York but from what he told me last night whenever he was here he still wanted a car he loved. So he invested just as much into this one as the Lamborghini Urus in New York.

Men and their cars.

I held onto Alessio's hand tightly as we walked along the path passing all the headstones on the way. We walked for a while in silence while Alana slept in the carrier Alessio was holding, until we finally stopped at the grave we were looking for.

Here lies

Loving friend, brother and son.

My eyes scanned over the headstone engraving in front of us, my eyes suddenly watering as I did. I ran my hand over the cold grey headstone, trying to keep myself from crying too much.

"They didn't add father. They never told anyone, did they? They never told anyone that I was his daughter. He didn't know..." Even though I kept my eyes focused on the writing in front of me I was aware of Alessio moving closer to me once he put Alana's carrier down on the floor next to us.

"Then you tell him." Alessio whispered quietly into my ear as he wrapped his arms around me from behind. I let out a shaky breath, thankful for the support he was giving me in that moment otherwise my knees probably would have buckled beneath me.

It took me a moment to finally think of what to say but once I started speaking the words just came tumbling out.

"Hi dad...I don't really know what I'm supposed to say, I never thought I'd be in this position and I guess you never thought I'd come and visit. You probably didn't know I existed. I know you would have been a great father though, you would have been my bestfriend; we would have done everything together I'm sure of it. You're probably wishing you could ask me why I'm crying when I never even met you, but I really don't know." I let out a small chuckle as I wiped the tears falling from my eyes.

"Is it weird to say I miss you? I didn't know you but I do. I wish I knew you dad, but I know you're here with me right now. Wherever you're watching us right now I just want you to know I love you and when the time comes I can't wait to give you a hug. One day we'll be together. I'm sorry I spent my whole life calling someone else dad, but I promise all your grandchildren will know you're their grandfather."

The more and more I spoke the more the tears started falling down my cheeks and a small sob escaped my lips. "I love you daddy, I wish you were here."

Alessio and I must have stood there for ages because by the time we finally left the cemetery it was starting to get dark, we were exhausted and Alana had woken up from her nap. I hardly said a word during the ride to what I thought was back to the hotel until I looked out the window.

"Where are we Alessio?" He gave me a small smile before getting out the car and getting Alana out of her car seat, holding her in his arms as I took the hint and got out the car too. I looked around to see we were halfway up a hill surrounded by trees and if you looked closely you could see the coast at the bottom and probably the sea too but it was too dark at that moment to see much else.

"Why are you staring at nothing Luciana, turn around." I frowned at Alessio's words and instead turned around the other way, finally realising what he meant. In front of me stood a gorgeous three story Mediterranean style villa. To say it was beautiful would be an understatement.

"Another house? Alessio-" Before I could even get a word out he stepped closer to me and placed his finger over my lips.

"Shh. Just let me talk." When he was sure I wasn't going to speak again he moved his finger and gave me a teasing smile while I just narrowed my eyes. I really just wasn't in the mood for this.

"I wanted to ask you what you thought of moving here. The three of us."

My mouth dropped open at his words and part of me was expecting him to just start laughing or something at the suggestion. "From New York? To here?"

I didn't mean it in a bad way, I just never thought Alessio would be the sort of person who would want to leave one of the best cities in the world where he pretty much owned everything he could ever want and where all his family were to move to a quiet island.

Although Sicily was beautiful and there was still so much to see and do. But that's not the point.

Surprisingly Alessio laughed at my shocked expression almost as if he was expecting it and instead nodded his head. "Yes, Luciana. My father wants to move back here to be with his family and I just thought we should do the same. There's not much left in New York, we could start a fresh chapter here."

"The mafia is in New York Alessio! And all your businesses and your friends and family! What about Daliah and Tomasso? This is crazy."

"It's not crazy. The mafia is and always has been based here. I've already spoken to Tomasso, he'll be coming with us. If we leave I'm sure my sisters will come and as for Mason and Eli they're taking over everything else in New York for me."

I shook my head at him, running my hand through my hair. This was honestly the last thing I expected him to drop on me during this little trip. The more and more I thought about it, it suddenly hit me.

"You've been planning this, haven't you? Me coming here to see my dad's grave was just the perfect opportunity for you to bring me here." Once again I was surprised by his reaction to my harsh words because instead of glaring at me like I'd expected him to, he just shook his head and gave me a soft smile.

"It wasn't the perfect opportunity, but yes I have been thinking about it. Not planning it. I've always wanted to come back it just never seemed possible. As I explained everything will work out now, I don't just have the mafia and my businesses to think about. I have you and Alana. This would be perfect for us. You can bring Daliah if you want."

"I don't know Alessio..." I gave him an unsure frown as he stepped closer to me, taking my hand in his spare one, pulling me in closer to him and Alana.

"Think about it. Waking up here every morning, all this fresh air and space for Alana to play. The perfect house to raise more children, away from the drama and stress of New York. Just peace and quiet and warm weather. All the people you love, safe and happy. It's perfect here."

A small smile tugged at my lips at the thought of Alessio and I with more children trying to control them all while also trying not to argue with each other. Whatever happened in terms of children for us I knew were definitely going to be crazy parents, that's for sure.

"You really want this?" Alessio nodded his head, holding hand tight in his as he spoke. "I do."

"Then of course I'll come with you. I love you Alessio, I would follow you anywhere. After everything we've been through, all I want is to see you happy and at peace. I'll do whatever it takes to make you happy." He gave me a smile before leaning down and pressing his lips to mine before giving me his signature smirk.

"In that case you're going to need to give me more children."

Hey guys! What did you think? Just the epilogue to go :( It will definitely be up soon, sorry for all the long waits between chapters, I'm trying my best ❤️
