A Few Days Later
After a few days, you had spent almost all your time renovating the house, but you additionally had invited some friends from your workplace to assist you in completing the dilapidated house's repair.
You all began with the interior. The wallpapers were peeled off, revealing the intolerable mold that had settled behind. After the cleaning and scraping, you all were able to replace it with the light blue wallpaper. You were going for a light, sky blue, and white color theme for the house. Everyone helped in moving the furniture out of the house and all the rooms. Since they were in good condition, you were planning on selling it. There was even a porcelain vase that was a few thousand dollars. You began replacing the wallpaper in all the rooms with light blue and white colors. Then, after checking the condition of the carpet, you and your best friend, Micah, started to vacuum it. Of course, the whole time, he spewed bad puns that received your persistent giggles.
Besides, no one can resist a bad pun.
Eventually, about three large trucks arrived with new furniture for the different rooms. You had brought down the boxes with all the sheets and tapestries for the beds and curtains. However, the curtains would be placed down after the windows were fixed.
There were three bedrooms and one master bedroom with a master bathroom. There were two other bathrooms that were in exceptional condition with the marble tile intact. It got some additional cleaning from your team of friends. You helped in bringing the couches for the living room and a new flat-screen TV propped on the dresser.
The dining room near the kitchen had a white wood table with 8 white chairs around it made of the same material. Cabinets were off to the side as it showed off different glass tea sets you had received from distant relatives in Europe. Flowers decorated the table in a marbled blue vase. You had a cute little clock on the wall and you smiled in satisfaction.
In each of the rooms, you placed twin-sized beds, except the master where you had ordered an Alaskan king-sized bed for yourself with a thick alabaster comforter (you moved a lot in your sleep). There was at least one dresser with a mirror in each room. The bathrooms were decorated with pastel blue towels and other decorations in the same color.
Once you were all done with the interior, you began with the exterior.
Jesus Christ, that was probably the most work you had ever done. It took forever to replace the wood on the old porch and replace the dilapidated windows with new glass. Compared to mowing the lawn and getting rid of weeds, the actual repairing of the house was literal hell. It almost reminded you of high school.
After you all finished, you settled in the kitchen with them. They chatted with you and drank lemonade that one of them had prepared. You had thanked all of them for the help and wished them goodbye, saying you would see them tomorrow at work. You sat on the metal chairs you had decorated the porch with. It was a nice, cool evening. The sky had a few clouds present and was painted with reds, oranges, indigo, and violets. The incoming darker violet ushered you inside after about an hour since it was nighttime.
You ate ramen for the first night since you were planning to go grocery shopping that weekend. Then, glancing at the clock, you decided to fall asleep early: nine o'clock more specifically. Taking a well-deserved bath, you leaned back in the warm water, your eyes closed and your mind drifting off to your agenda for the week. However, you couldn't help but get that feeling of someone watching you once again. You tried your best to ignore it but this time, it felt like the presence was right beside you.
Hovering over you.
Looming.
Just watching you.
Maybe even waiting to attack.
Your breath hitched and your muscles tensed as fear and paranoia resolved in your body. You were paralyzed by your own anxiety as your eyelids remained glued shut. You wouldn't breathe until you knew "it" was gone. Eventually, the feeling faded and you slowly opened your eyes, looking around carefully. You glanced towards the door, which was still closed and locked. Sighing in relief, you stood from the bath, taking the plug out and letting the water drain. In the meantime, you dried yourself off and dressed in your nightclothes, brushing your teeth as well. You placed the plug back in the bathtub and put the slightly wet towel on a rack before leaving the bathroom and closing the door.
You settled on the large bed that could honestly fit four people and read one of your favorite novels before turning off your bedside lamp and falling asleep.
~ 2:07 AM ~
You shifted in your bed uncomfortably in your bed, unable to sleep. Sweat drenched your body but it wasn't from a nightmare; it was just too hot. Maybe there was something wrong with the air conditioner but you had made sure that it was set at a certain temperature before you fell asleep. Your position in bed suddenly felt uncomfortable and you opened your eyes slowly.
You slowly turned to lay on your back but not completely as your back brushed up against something very fluffy. Your eyes widened and seemed to immediately notice that one side of the bed was leaning down like anvils were weighing it down.
You quietly panicked but stayed quiet as you reached your hand behind your back and touched the soft fur. It felt almost like an animal's fur or a person's hair. Inhaling a breath of courage, you sat up and reluctantly looked over at the figure on your bed.
You almost screamed in utter horror.
It was the size of the whole bed; it had to be at least 10 feet tall. Not only that, but it had sharp teeth that could easily tear at your flesh. It owned four arms, one having a hook, but it was also a mismatch of colors like an amalgamation. Your eyes glazed over as you noticed the large tear in the beast across its torso, certain you could see an exoskeleton but also internal organs. You could feel yourself growing nauseous. Yet you were puzzled. At the top of its head was a bunny and bear ear with a small violet top hat propped in between. It almost reminded you of the animatronics at your job, but they didn't have fur and they definitely didn't have internal organs like humans.
You didn't know what to do. It's not like you could tell the police. They would think you're crazy.
If you called your friends, they could get hurt if this thing woke up.
As your mind drifted off to different types of plans to escape it, the monster grumbled and turned on his side, awoken by a ramble of thoughts that he could hear beside him. He opened his eyes and his silver orbs observed the human as they continued to think. He watched, intrigued, and couldn't help but smile a bit.
You settled on a plan and opened your eyes only to feel the beast's gaze on you. You looked over towards it and screamed, in which it reacted by rolling its eyes. You immediately jumped off your bed and moved away from it. It sat up and watched you curiously, a smug look forming on its twisted face. You screamed from the wall you were pinned against, trying to sound brave, "Who are you?! W-What do you want?"
He smiled and crossed a pair of his arms, "˙ǝƃuɐɥɔ ɹǝʌǝu suɐɯnɥ ǝǝs oʇ ǝɔᴉu s, ʇI"
His voice was a cacophony, even a mass of different voices. Some male. Others female. Most were unrecognizable and the voice echoed in your head, making you cringe and flinch in fear. He seemed to form a smile at your reaction.
He spoke softly to you as if trying to lure you in, "I could ask you the same thing, (y/n)." Your eyes widened, "What the hell?! How do you know my name?" He chuckled, "You already know that I've been watching you. I was that sensation you felt when you're being watched." A shiver went down your spine as you muttered, "You're a fucking creep."
A sadistic look settled in his eyes, "Really now?" You realized that was exactly the wrong thing as he appeared right in front of you, his teeth lethally close to your face. He leaned his head down to make eye contact with you and your breathing increased as a sense of dread and fear impacted you like a meteor. Tears brimmed at your eyes and you feel yourself slowly losing grip on this reality as your life slipped away from you. He stared a while longer before looking away. You breathed in heavily and looked over; the feeling suddenly is gone. He stands and spoke, "I was here long before you were, human. There are many... Things that occurred in this household."
You couldn't help but think back to what the estate agent said about the curses and the family's life that was ruined here. The name of the family was at the tip of your tongue as you questioned, "You mean what happened to the-"
"The Afton Family? Yes. It was almost like they were cursed, but I can assure you this. The father was the root cause of this all."
You stared at the beast before slowly standing. "Did you know them?"
He glanced back at you. "One of them: a child. He was the one who died because of the Bite of 1983." Your eyes widened as you heard about it when you were a kid, but that was about 12 years before you were born. He continued on, "He was sensitive and emotional after witnessing his sister's death and losing his mother. His older brother bullied him and his father never had time for them since he was always busy."
You looked down, saddened at the thought about how that poor kid must have felt. He was all alone with no one to turn to. Disheartened, you turned away from the beast slightly. He added, moving slightly closer to you, "But he is... In a better place now."
You looked up at him and noticed the careful genuineness in his silver optics. You finally questioned, "Who are you?" Those orbs shimmered a bit as he replied, "I go by many names personally but I prefer Euphoria. Ironic, isn't it? Especially compared to what I stand for." You look at him quietly, and he added, "You don't need to introduce yourself as I'm already aware of who you are, (y/n)."
"What are you? Do you have a set gender or even A.I.?" You interrogated.
He smiled at your curiosity, "I like your intrigue, human. I identify myself as a shapeshifter. I can take any form as I please. As for gender, I don't really see a point for it, but I am whatever you perceive me to be. A.I.? Well, I'm not like those metal rust buckets you call animatronics. I do have some metallic parts like my spine, but for the most part, I am of organic matter, such as yourself."
"Since you're made of organic parts, can't you reproduce?" You questioned.
You received a look of sheer disgust. "I don't know whether to be offended or disgusted. You humans truly are a weird species," he retorted. You gave him an offended yet perplexed gaze before saying, "Nonetheless, I really don't want you here. So please, leave."
He whimpered like a puppy with a fake hurt look, "But, (y/n), I haven't done anything wrong." You rolled your eyes, "I don't care. I have family or colleagues that might be moving in soon. I don't want them to see that I've got this big, hunk of whatever you are following behind me like its completely normal."
He smirked, "Well, how about a proposition? I stay out of sight of whoever's coming and only come out after midnight to talk to you. I won't mess with the other people and they won't suspect a thing!"
You bit your lip softly, a hesitant expression settling unto your features. Could you really trust Euphoria, this large monster? He may or may not have been responsible for that kid's death, especially since he knew such extensive knowledge about. But he was an amalgamation of enigmas. He didn't seem to bad and he didn't hurt you, aside from the fact that he made you extremely paranoid. Would he keep his promise?
"Come on, (y/n)! Do you trust me?~"
