CHAPTER SIX; REVEALED

There was a heavy tension after Keanu found out about Ren dating. It felt uncomfortable to her near her, especially when all Keanu wanted to do was hold her but he can't. Suddenly, all these boundaries appeared and he hated it.

It was moments like these, when he was so desperate to kiss her or hold her, did he miss the old days. Sure, he wasn't kissing his best friend back then, but it was way better. It was just them and their little kingdom, but the walls came crumbling down. Now, Ren didn't devote all her time to him, and he didn't devote all his time for her.

But he wants to again, he just wants life to go back to normal. Keanu knew even if he left Jennifer, that wouldn't mean Ren would drop everything for him anymore. She had River, why would she drop everything for him?

Keanu ignored her for three months in favor of Jennifer and their relationship, but that excitement of having his first girlfriend died. Jennifer was amazing, but she wasn't Ren. He just didn't realize how much he loved and appreciate Ren until she was gone.

It made him feel hollow inside, and this unrecognizable pain seeped into his heart. Keanu felt a bit hopeless, and wasn't sure what to do next. He could endlessly avoid Ren and River, perhaps make life more complicated for everyone. Or maybe they wouldn't even notice, especially when he's always with Jennifer anyway.

Or he could try to woo Ren his way, remind her that he still cares for her. He'll show Ren that he loves her. Keanu didn't want to distance himself from her, he wanted to enjoy every last moment he had with her.

The movie slowly comes to an end, and Ren yawns. The bowl has nothing left but popcorn kernels that didn't pop. There's a huge blanket scattered on them, and it felt like a cozy bittersweet moment. Bitter because Keanu knows the truth, but sweet because he still loved being bear her.

"Man, I think I'm going to get a migraine if I watch another movie." Ren mumbled softly, looking more sleepy than before. It wasn't too late either, but Ren felt comfortable around Keanu. She just wanted to fall asleep next to him.

"Yeah, I miss our movie nights." Keanu revealed, glancing at the tired girl. She was adorable, and every moment he grew to appreciate the little things with her.

"Me too. I missed you too. I'm glad you aren't being a stranger." Ren replied back, glancing right back at Keanu with a small smile. All she wanted was him, and for a moment, it felt like she really did have him.

But River still lingers in the back of her mind, and it's hard to ignore how she feels towards him too. Ren wanted to groan in frustration because this wasn't a dilemma she'd expect herself in.

"I don't think I'm in love with Jennifer." Keanu reveals quietly, and Ren's eyes widen in shock. Keanu wasn't even thinking, he just poured out his feelings.

"What?" She questions with a strained voice, what does she do with this information?

"Jennifer. I don't think I love her, but I don't know how to leave her." Keanu adds on, glancing at the shock girl for once. Ren was so beautiful, even when she seemed lost and confused.

The expression reminded him of freshmen year in Marine Biology, an elective class Keanu had taken with Ren. He remembers dissecting a mackerel with Ren, who seemed confused at the time before the teacher explained each organ.

"I don't know how I can help you." Ren mumbles, feeling a bit distressed. She should be happy that Keanu didn't love Jennifer, and apart of her did. But what even Keanu leaves Jen, would he even like Ren?

"You'll support me through anything, right?" Keanu questioned after a moment of silence.

"Of course, why wouldn't I?" Ren asked, seeming more perplexed by the changing events. Things were too different now–too awkward.

"And you know I'll support you for everything, right?" Keanu added on, making sure the girl knew he'd be there for her until the end.

"Yes." Ren answered, but she felt indecisive, would he be there for her? Even when things fall apart?

"Why didn't you tell me about you and River?" Keanu inquires, having a hard time concealing the hurt from his tone.

"Me and River?" Ren mumbles in confusion before it hit her.

Oh.

"You guys are dating, right? Why didn't either of you tell me?" Keanu queried, the mask finally breaking, displaying how troubled he look.

"Um, well, it just happened–today–to be exact. I figured River would had told you." Ren explains, throwing in a small white lie about River informing Keanu.

"Oh. Well, I'm happy for you guys." Keanu utters a moment later, feeling his voice strain. He had to leave now.

It was crazy to see the tables turn so fast.

It was too awkward, especially when the confrontation felt so tense. Keanu decided to leave the Fujioka household more confused than he was when he entered it.

Even when Keanu left, Ren felt so out of place with her own thoughts and feelings. She loved Keanu, but River was so nice to her. He was there for the three months that hurt the most. River supported her through the whole situation, and she wasn't too sure she wanted to stop that fake relationship just yet.

Especially when she started noticing how happy he seemed around her. It her feel important and wanted, and it was an empowering feeling.

"Did Keanu leave, sweetie?" Ren's mother asks, noticing Keanu's presence gone from the couch in the living room.

"Yeah, he did." Ren replied, hiding upstairs after that. She just wanted to sleep and wake up where to a time where no one had feelings for anyone.

This feeling bullshit was too much.

As she laid on her bed, it made Ren realize how much of her life turned into some crazy cliche.

What a mess.
