Chapter 15: The Last Sage
You woke up and looked around the room, wondering what happened and where your mother went.
Bayonetta entered the room, surprised by your awakening, and ran over to hug you.
Bayonetta: "I'm so relieved you're okay!".
"What happened?" you asked.
Bayonetta: "You discovered you were the missing piece of the Lumen Sages and fought some of the angels that were going after your aunt and I. You passed out and remained asleep for two days straight."
You looked to your side and noticed the case sitting on the bookshelf.
Bayonetta: "It's time for breakfast."
Bayonetta carried you out of bed and to the kitchen table.
"I feel so weak..." you said after sitting down on the chair.
Bayonetta: "Well, you have been asleep for two days."
After breakfast, you went into Bayonetta's room and noticed the mark on your back in the mirror. You took off your shirt and used you phone to take a selfie with the mirror and the reflection of your back.
After wondering what the mark in the photo was, you exited Bayonetta's room and went into the living room.
You turned on the TV and saw a report covering the massacre of the village. The reporter deduced that resulting massacre was caused by a bout of mass hysteria.
"Well, they're not wrong," you said sarcastically as you turned the TV off.
Bayonetta: "(y/n), I have to go to work now. Don't leave the cabin while I'm gone, okay?"
"Mom, can I ask you something before you leave?"
Bayonetta: "Make it quick."
"Why do you have to kill angels every day?"
Bayonetta: "It's part of my contract. I have to kill angels every day, or else it will be terminated... in a very, very bad way."
"Be safe," you said with a bit of concern.
Bayonetta: "You make sure you're safe, too."
Bayonetta kissed you on the forehead.
Bayonetta: "There are sandwiches in the fridge in case you get hungry. And we have some chips if you need anything else."
After she left, you went into your room to look at the case.
You pulled it into the middle of the room and placed your hand on the watch as it suddenly began to tick and glow a big blue light.
The case opened itself and revealed books in its hidden side compartments. You took the books out and opened one with a silver wreath and a depiction of the sun in the center of it.
You discovered that the book contained information about the Angels that your mother has fought.
You picked up the next book, which contained a depiction of a gate with black wings and an ominous black and orange gem. Opening that book, you saw that contained information on Demons.
You then noticed a book with an engraving of a priest in white robes and a nun in a black outfit. Titled "History of the Clans", you read through it and learned all you needed to know about the clans, the Umbran Witches, and the Lumen Sages.
They were both formed to keep the balance between light and darkness, using something called "the Eyes of the World". The Lumen Sages were given "the Right Eye of Light" and made pacts with the Angels of Paradiso, and the Umbran witches were given "the Left Eye of Darkness" and made pacts with the Demons of Inferno. It also revealed the existence of a dimension the angels travel through called Purgatorio.
You then noticed yet another book engraved with the seal of the Lumen Sages. It unlocked on touch and you opened it, revealing multiple magic and fighting techniques used by the Sages. You noticed a pair of feathers and then read a page about their properties and their use in summoning angels.
You were quite unsure of this part, but you found the other techniques very valuable.
Bayonetta: "(y/n)? Sweetie? I'm home!"
"That was quick," you said as you put down the book.
You then checked your phone and realized that you've been reading the books for hours. You put them all back in the case and closed it before putting it back in the spot where it was beforehand.
"Welcome back!" you said as you left your room.
Bayonetta: "There's no need to be so formal. How were things while I was gone?"
"I did what you said: I didn't leave the cabin, not at any point."
Bayonetta: "Good boy! I'm so happy you're okay."
"How was the angel hunt?"
Bayonetta: "It went well enough. The angels fell for all the tricks and I got rid of them. They aren't very bright. I must say though, my friend is complaining about his car being wrecked and the angels tore my uniform to shreds. I can't believe the gall they had to almost leave me without any clothes."
An image of your mother naked appeared in your mind and you blushed like crazy.
Bayonetta: "Do you want to talk now?"
"No thanks," you said snapping back to reality. "Not right now."
Bayonetta: "You're blushing so much, it's adorable."
She giggled and pinched your cheek.
Bayonetta: "I'm going to make dinner now. I need you to wait a few minutes."
"Okay, sure," you said embarrassed, still unable to get that image out of your head.
After eating dinner and being unable to sleep for hours, you passed out and woke up around Noon.
Still feeling a bit tired, you left your room to start your day.
"Mom?" you called.
Upon entering the living room, you saw that there was a note left Bayonetta on the table.
"I'll be gone for a little while. I let you sleep in since you still need to rest."
--Mom
You went back to your room and looked at the case again with determination.
You quickly open the case and grabbed the Holy Glaive and the Lumen Sage Technique book. You read the book on the porch and decided to start training.
You started with basic attacks and simple movements from the book. You knew otherwise that you don't have a proper instructor right now, but the book is all you've got.
The Glaive slipped out of your hands repeatedly and you even got it stuck in a tree, needing to pull it out. But you never gave up and kept training.
After a few hours, you were able to do a flawless fighting style, and you heard clapping behind you. You turned around to see both Bayonetta and Jeanne cheering.
Jeanne: "You've been practicing for hours. Bayonetta and I got back a little while ago but it seems that you've been putting a lot of effort into it."
Bayonetta: "I didn't have good experiences with Lumen Sages in the past, but I'm proud of the one I took in."
You felt proud that your (adopted) mother said a thing like that. Almost like she was your actual mother all along.
Before you went back inside, Bayonetta took you into a hugging embrace.
Bayonetta: "I'm proud to have a son like you."
"I'm proud to have a mom like you."
Bayonetta: "To tell you the truth, (y/n), I own a big house that I used to live in before I adopted you. If your interested, we could be there for a few days."
"That sounds nice," you said, "Though nothing can replace the cabin."
Bayonetta: "I love you, my special boy."
"I love you too... Mommy."
