Chapter 14: Ruined Home
In your new notebook, you wrote about how Bayonetta and Jeanne have been fighting Angels more often lately and haven't heard from them for a few days.
Your mother explicitly told you to not leave the cabin until she returns, but it's been days since she said that. You tried calling them, but they didn't answer.
You were getting pretty worried, so you decided to go look for her.
You went into Bayonetta's room and opened a box sent from someone named Rodin. It contained four of Bayonetta's pistols, so you put them in your backpack and exited the cabin.
You heard a voice coming from deep in the forest, and as such, you headed toward it.
After walking for hours, you became tired, but remained determined to find your mother and aunt.
You noticed a trail of blood and followed it. You then discovered a body that appears to have been impaled by spears belonging to the Angels.
Seeing claw markings on the trees and footprints on the ground, you follow them and came across your old town, now in complete ruins, with most of the houses on fire.
You get closer and saw corpses all over, and when you checked out the church, it showed signs of a massacre.
You went to the head priest's room and found them dead while holding a journal. Taking it, you saw that the village was attempting to summon angels in an attempt to reach out to God.
"Judging by what happened here, God must have a sick sense of humor," you commented.
You turned the pages and saw that the priest became disillusioned by the Angels' deception and planned to send them back.
"How tho?" you asked yourself.
Upon reaching the last pages, you saw that the priest wrote about a weapon that was being held in the house of a boy that went missing, claiming to be the last remnant of something called "The Lumen Sages".
You took a look at the image on one of the pages.
"Hey, that's my old house!"
Knowing where to go next, you left with the journal in hand.
During your trek to your old house, you witnessed more and more bodies all over the place.
"What some people won't do," you said to yourself.
You reached your house and saw signs of the angels trying to break in. You went inside and saw that your original family committed suicide by drinking poison.
Having nothing else to say about that scene, you notice a bookshelf and saw a book titled "Legacy of the Sages". You climb up and pull it down, causing the bookshelf to slide open and reveal a hidden staircase.
Walking down, you noticed a strange case with a sun-shaped watch on it.
You touched it, and a strange mark formed on your back.
The case opened, revealing a robe, a mask, and a golden double-bladed Glaive inside it.
Just as you expressed surprise, you heard some noises coming from upstairs. You took the Glaive and ran back up the staircase.
You searched the house and went outside to see what you thought was supposedly Bayonetta.
You slowly walked up to her and noticed that she hasn't said a word the whole time.
"Yeah, you are not mom."
Knowing something is wrong, you stab them.
The Bayonetta imposter took a few steps back and reveals itself as a shapeshifting Angel. More Angels appeared beside it.
"Guess you never really left, huh?"
The shapeshifter fired at you, but something came over you and you felt time come to a stop.
Suddenly, strange memories are flown into your mind and you deflected the bullets. You then make a jump onto the angels, and, after a long fight, managed to kill them.
You then pointed the Glaive at the downed shapeshifter.
"You're not even worthy of looking like my mother," you said before you stabbed it through the chest.
Exhausted from the fight, you used the Galive to try and hold yourself back up.
You saw more angels attack, but they're shot down before they got close to you.
You see that your mother and aunt arrived on the scene.
Bayonetta: "What have you gotten yourself into this time?"
Jeanne: "He'll answer that later."
Bayonetta and Jeanne continued to fight the angels that still remain in the town.
Jeanne: "I'm surprised that so many are in this place."
Bayonetta's guns then broke off.
Bayonetta: "Of all the times not to check Rodin's package..."
"Mom!" you shouted as you threw her the guns you had in your backpack. Bayonetta catches them just before they fell to the ground.
Bayonetta: "Thank you so much."
Bayonetta and Jeanne kill a good amount until a swarm of Angels charges at them. They got ready but the angels are killed by your new abilities one more time to cut them down.
Bayonetta and Jeanne looked at you in shock as you landed on the ground panting.
Jeanne: "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," you said, panting. "Just tired."
Bayonetta: "What are you doing outside the cabin?"
"I was looking for you."
Jeanne: "Where did you get that weapon?"
You pointed at your old house before you passed out.
Bayonetta: "(y/n)!"
Jeanne: "(y/n)!"
At the cabin, you found yourself sleeping in your bed, with the Glaive and strange-looking case in your room.
Bayonetta: "He wouldn't have gone looking for me if I came back sooner."
Jeanne: "We would've come back sooner if it wasn't for that illusion that caused us to get sent to Inferno."
Bayonetta: "There was that whole fighting through the hordes and finding a way back to the Human World, too."
Jeanne: "I'm going to sleep for a week, starting now."
Bayonetta: "That's exactly what I was thinking."
Bayonetta noticed your journal.
Bayonetta: "Are you reading that thing?
Jeanne: "Yep."
Bayonetta: "What happened to the old village?"
Jeanne: "The journal says that the town wanted to finally reach out to heaven, then were deceived by the Angels and slaughtered."
Jeanne handed Bayonetta the book and she threw it into the fire.
Jeanne: "How was he able to fight like that?"
Bayonetta: "I don't know. That mark on his back wasn't there before. Do you think he belonged to the Lumen Sages?"
Jeanne: "I thought they became extinct with Balder."
Bayonetta: "Apparently, their legacy isn't over yet."
Jeanne: "I have to get going now. Take care."
After Jeanne left, Bayonetta went to your room and saw you sleeping.
She rubbed your head.
Bayonetta: "I'm proud of you, my special boy."
Unbeknownst to her, the watch began to glow and tick as she fell asleep.
